Always try to buy fresh produce from Swansea market when ever I can . I live in North Gower surrounded by farms on all sides. Considering you live in Builth you seem to have a very negative attitude to the people who farm the land. Anyway hope you enjoyed the Builth show this weekend

I have many relations who are farmers. I know what they get.
I am really not sure why they plead poverty. Greed perhaps.
I agree, buy local fresh produce.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

Just booked a holiday and flying out of Cardiff, the thought of negotiating those bloody tunnels and the bridge were enough to put me off, changed our original destination because there are no flights from Cardiff to our original destination, so I chose a different venue rather than have to drive to Bristol.

Collected a family member from Bristol last week to find the whole area a building site so there expansion of some sort going on there , annoyed to have to pay £9 for waiting 10 minutes at the pick /drop off point , the journey up was not too bad v but coming back a half hour wait to get onto the bridge due to a lane closure .I'd much rather use Cardiff and will for our holiday later this year .

Over the same period Bristol passenger increase was 7%, 2% more than Cardiff so still falling behind.

Yes but that was not the correction.

He said passenger numbers at Cardiff were dropping.
Thats not true.
Passenger numbers at Cardiff are going up.

Bristol numbers were not mentioned.

Yes 881k and that number is nearly 50% fewer people than used the airport in 2019. 6 years later and still not much more than half as many using the airport .

2019: 1,654,920 passengers.
2020: 219,984 passengers.
2021: 123,825 passengers.
2022: 859,805 passengers.
2023: Around 837,000 passengers.
2024: Over 881,000 passengers.

2020 and 2021 were obviously the Covid years.

But they are going up not down.

Its a fact.

Pre pandemic 1.6 million passengers were using Cardiff, it's not a mystery where the other 800 thousand have gone

It's Bristol airport every time for us. Can't remember the last time we flew from Cardiff. Must have been the days of BMI Baby.
It's an easy decision...the product. Generally we fly to Málaga a few times a year. In recent years we have also flown to Murcia and Menorca. Flight availability, times and prices beat Cardiff every time. I hear more Welsh accents there, than any other at Bristol.
So unofficially it could be Wales National airport 😊
We tend make an extra day of it and spend a night in Bristol and get an early flight, if available the next day. Nice and fresh for your first beer 🍺 en la playa.

Cardiff every time possible for me.
Closer, less busy, and no need for an extra night expense in Bristol.

Destinations are growing. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Reporting fact is not having a negative attitude.

He is balancing the debate.

Cardiff airport costs are tiny compared to the huge financial damage done by Brexit.
Reverse Brexit and we will have more prosperity. Fact.

The same posters hate on Cardiff whilst loving Brexit, makes no economic sense.

I'm not disappointed in the least, I go away 4 or 5 times a year and luckily Cardiff has 2 destinations I use.

But how many years and how much more tax payers will it take to get to those pre pandemic levels, I'd love to see Cardiff compete with Bristol but it's just not going to happen

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

I'm with you. Would love to fly from Cardiff again. However our needs are met better by Bristol and unfortunately most Welsh flyers will say the same thing

Where do you fly to from Cardiff and what do you roughly pay?
Just priced up Málaga early October. Bristol £100.00 cheaper. So for the two of us ££200.00 less. That's why people in South Wales go from Bristol. Yes we would love to use Cardiff but as I said for us personally and many others the product isn't there.

Yes but it's costing tax payers a lot of money. How many years will we have to subsidise this airport for?

How many operations would this subsidy have paid for?

Why do governments give tax payers money to a PLC? I wonder how much the CEO of CIAL gets paid?

It is competing with Bristol now but not doing well. We know that 2m Welsh would fly from CWL if the options were there. There is demand. One they start making decent profits again it can be sold off.

It make sense for the Pension funds who own Bristol could buy it if allowed. They know how to run airports and will continue to serve the same customers

I doubt if the pension fund would buy Cardiff Airport they are trying to offload Bristol Airport along with several others.

12 million fly from Bristol 800 thousand from Cardiff, it's hardly competing.

Cardiff is still 400 thousand passengers down, how long will it take before it even gets back to pre pandemic numbers

It is competing but as I said not so well.Cardiff has other aspects to work on like Maintenance and freight so does not need to match Bristol.

There is demand. Ryan air are in town now. Passenger numbers are increasing generally after Covid and CWL ,can attract Welsh current Bristol passengers to return given the geographical advantages.

No one is doubting Bristol is out performing CWL. The taxpayer has invested to date around £180m over the last 12 years including the purchase price.

Reports state that the airport supports 4000 jobs and is worth £250 m to the Welsh economy. This is growing slowly from a low base.

The tax burden on Welsh taxpayers per head is £5 a year to date and this will be continued for another 10 years. It is a national asset and Swansea people will get their money back with only one flight in three years or so. The subsidy is dwarfed by the Port Talbot Steelworks conversion which will secure less jobs.

Cardiff should able to get back into profit in the next fes years and put money back into the Senedd Budget.

It would be good if Ryan air expanded to compete with easyJet in Bristol. They have a 2m Welsh customer base to attract not including English people coming down the M50..

I think you've highlighted a problem there. There is no point in investing in an airport people don't use, perhaps we should be investing in the airlines.

I flew from Bristol to Ibiza on Ryanair last week. On the same day there flights to Ibiza from Bristol on easyJet and Jet2 as well. This must be the case with different destinations frequently, very frequently if you include a day either way.

Perhaps we should be giving Ryanair some cash to move those flights to CWL?

You must have missed my post on anothe thread about governments giving public money to orivate businesses, subsidies etc. Then a government introduced universla credit so now we give subsidies to rich people, we give benefits to the low paid enabling the rich people to keep on paying shitty wages, we are being fleeced twice.

You really need to keep up.

PS, it doesn't matter if it is small time, it's tax payers money and we should be angry at every pind that thrown away. ALL waste should be looked at and changes made. The whataboutery from you is no surprise tjo, oh let the Senedd egt away with it becayse it's small potatoes, 200 million isn't small to me.

You appear to rather vocal on tbe Senedd matters, but rather more ‘accepting’ at the UK level …

Call me old fashioned but a pound wasted at uk level is just the same as a pound wasted at Senedd level …

How much did the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan cost us ?
One Tomahawk cruise missile appears to cost $4m.

Johnson’s unused and unstaffable Nightingale hospitals cost us over £530m.

Equivalence is important.
