Cardiff Airport on 20:51 - May 22 by Kilkennyjack | You appear to rather vocal on tbe Senedd matters, but rather more ‘accepting’ at the UK level … Call me old fashioned but a pound wasted at uk level is just the same as a pound wasted at Senedd level … How much did the illegal wars in Iraq and Afghanistan cost us ? One Tomahawk cruise missile appears to cost $4m. Johnson’s unused and unstaffable Nightingale hospitals cost us over £530m. Equivalence is important. |
Don’t forget Truss | |

Yeah, obviously I never criticise Westminster. You just don't pay attention. Besides, I live in Wales which is mostly run by the Senedd. Now this pound comparison, besides how much they supply to the Senedd budget, how many spending decisions in Wales are taken by Westminster? Which of the Senedd's decisions that I have been vocal about were made by Westminster...come on, that should be easy, the clue is in the question. Whataboutery is unimportant, false equivalence is unimportant but a bit of comprehension would go a long way. I'm not really sure how many times I have to say Westminster is shit before you accept that I do criticise Westminster. Maybe a more pertinent question is, why are so very willing to accept such sub standard governance in Wales? So bad in fact it appears to be giving Reform a chance, that is truly shocking. There's no comparison. Reeves is trying to raise revenue for public services and not tax breaks for their rich buddies

Loyalty is often a good trait but in the face of what's been revealed about Reeves AND her performance, he'd be better off getting rid. His problem is he already seems to have hit the bottom of the barrel, I think he needs to cast his net further afield and find some new talent, maybe someone with new ideas and possibly some actual talent. After so many years of tory incompoetence I don't think the voters will give him another chance if this term isn't a roaring success. Yet voting the tories back in with Badenoch (who I thought was the best choice BUT...)seems unlikely and it may yet be another open door for Reform. Lets face it, the English voters are far more likely to put Reform in than the Welsh.

Should be encouraging business both large and small and guess what ..more business more tax. That increase on NI contribution from employers was huge negative

And this is a Government led by Kier Starmer. Imagine how catastrophic things might have been had Corbyn ever won an election. I don't think we, as a nation, fully appreciate the bullet that we dodged in 2019. If he achieves nothing else in life (and it's likely that he won't) putting an end to that possibility would be Boris Johnson's crowning achievement. [Post edited 24 May 20:08]

In my opinion, we need better public service. All those make it more attractive for businesses. Better schools, hospitals, Gps, transport and so on. My concern is with this not increasing the profits of many large businesses and entrepreneurs who often avoid paying taxes

The situation under Reeves and Truss is slightly different, currently there is a global picture of increasing bond yields throughout developed economies whereas under Truss there wasn’t and the spike we saw under her was purely down to her calamitous budget. We need to see a fall in bond yields, but with Trump in the Whitehouse it’s unlikely to happen in the short term.

Unfortunately Reeves, like you, that if you over tax people they have little incentive to work harder and be enterprising. The result is LESS TAX revenues not more. How on earth imposing a £30 Billion tax raid on business is going to increase growth and employment only you know.

I'll be using it next week, but your experience tells you everything you need know, there are only 8 European flights the day I fly. It's never going to make a profit with numbers like that. And Bristol has 78 flights in one day, as much as I enjoy the ease of Cardiff it's hard to justify the cash being pumped into it

No it is not hard to justify. I regard CWL as vital to Wales. Reclaiming 1m to 2melsh people at Bristol also makes sense. It supports 4000 jobs apparently. I flew Ryan Air to Alicante having tried to book with Veulling. Ryan Air need to be competing with Easyjet I on certain routes. Turkey Greece Croatia and Italy. Bristol is a thoroughly unpleasant experience for most.

78 flights a day from Bristol compared with 8 from Cardiff (raynor). As I said previously, it's a chicken and egg situation. If Cardiff had another million customers there'd be plenty of airlines looking to go there. But without the flights being available those extra passengers won't çome. So it will take time and a gradual build up is the logical way. The numbers are going up. But slowly.

"It is used because CWL does not produce an alternative" This is the crux of the whole argument and the reason the Senedd should not throw good money after bad. Over 12 years the Senedd have owned the airport and they still haven't produced an alternative to Bristol Airport.
