Torquay enters administration on 15:45 - Feb 22 with 4735 views | Mytch_QPR | Very sad news. My dad grew up in Totnes and Torquay was very much his and the family's team. He remembered Torquay playing QPR in Third Division South back in the 1960s. Some relatives used to attend regularly or were season ticket holders. I think it was in the early 2000s that we signed Gregory Goodridge from them (anyone remember him and his goal direct from a corner?) To make things worse, my dad passed away on 27 Feb last year so we're approaching that date next week. The fans don't deserve this - I really hope they can get through this.

Saw Goodridge a few times in the reserves at Harrow Borough. He wasn't very good tbh.

To be fair, most of the team weren't up to much in those days. We were playing teams like Rushden & Diamonds - let's hope Torquay don't go the same way they went.

Torquay enters administration on 16:17 - Feb 22 with 4635 views | hantssi | Sad news indeed as when any club goes this way (perhaps except Chelsea!). My first game watching the R’s was down there, pre-season friendly late 60’s/early 70’s, we were in Dawlish on holiday and my dad took me. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Goodridge was much earlier than that - mid 90s he was playing for QPR. He scored direct from a corner in a 3-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday in 1996 in the Premier League (it popped up on On This Day QPR on Instagram relatively recently). Definitely long gone by the time we'd sunk to playing Rubbish & Dustbins FC.

Torquay enters administration on 21:10 - Feb 22 with 4255 views | loftus77 | As with Rochdale, a sad, and troubling, story. Didn't we play them in the FA Cup under Gerry around 2000ish and they took us to a replay iirc? I also think it might have been in December but the 3rd Round was early that year.

Yes you are correct that It is both sad and troubling, It will be for my ex work colleague who was a ST holder at Torquay, every other Saturday and the odd weekdays off he went down there from his home In Basingstoke, but never mind eh? another club bites the dust. I've just spent about Five minutes trawling through the Beebs football page looking for news about Torquay's demise, I gave up In the end because I couldn't find anything about Torquay, there's plenty of non news about Klopp, somebody called Ratcliffe a woman called Wiegman a bit about Messi playing for a club called interesting Miami, Alves has been found guilty of rape, Cesc Fabregas Is talking shit about you know who, Klopp gets another mention, there's some extraordinary news about Klopp's false teeth and Everton are hoping for divine intervention................. Well fcm my old football boots !!! I've just found a bit about Torquay on the Beeb site. If I could be bothered I'd take It all back. As for Goodridge he was crap, we was at Sheffield Wednesday that afternoon when he accidently scored direct from a corner, since that corner that afternoon all them Years ago we have only beaten the first defender two more times from our resulting corners.

Anyone remember why that was? That was the season that Man U didn't enter to go and play in Brazil in that nonsense World Club Cup tournament (which IMO was the beginning of the end of the FA Cup) but I don't think that had anything to do with playing the third round early. Or did it? [Post edited 23 Feb 0:03]

Wasn't he once described as the black Ryan Giggs? That goal where his corner went in at Hillsborough popped up on twitter recently (if you don't follow the on this day QPR account, you should). Looked very much an own goal and also an atrocious piece of goalkeeping.
Torquay enters administration on 08:19 - Feb 23 with 3802 views | DannyPaddox | If they’re in ‘collection buckets’ mode Torquay supporters of a certain age should look through their old programmes and see if they’ve got a Southend at home knocking around from December 1976. Ive seen them sell for £250 on eBay and heard they’ve gone for even more at auction. After searching for many years I picked one up for £4 recently online. The seller obviously didn’t realise what he had. When it arrived and I opened it up it was like getting a golden Wonka ticket. God Save The Torquay!

The FA we’re supposedly worried about fixture congestion and decided to bring the fa cup rounds forward as an experiment. It didn’t seem to work though so it was soon scrapped.

Greg goodridge was with us in the mid 90’s… understudy to impey, Sinclair and meaker - probably better than we give him credit for as the yardstick was exceptionally high! [Post edited 23 Feb 22:34]

Torquay enters administration on 15:20 - Mar 25 with 2881 views | DannyPaddox | The fella who sold me the Torquay programme for £4 a few weeks ago sent me a message as he found out one recently went for auction on eBay for £519 (+£3 p&p) He congratulated me which I thought was a nice thing to do saying (obviously) he had no idea and also added a laughing and a crying emoji. I asked him if he had any more. I’m hoping it’s a Gulls fan raising money to save the club.
