Hole in 1, you could fluke it. 2. 9 dart finish. 3. 147, not only you have to have the ability but it also relies on where the balls fall.

My American mate, if he was struggling with something, would say “I'm behind the 8 ball”. I don't know what he meant and he's gone home now.

I have fluked a hole in one, Emirates G.C, 07th hole. Par 3, awful shot, bounced weird hit the pin & dropped. Never ever got near one previously, or ever again. Never even hit a 180, ever. Love darts, I'm just not very good. Highest break in snooker, 39. So, golf it isn't. Hardest must be a 147. [Post edited 19 Jan 21:19]

I'd actually go for Golf, simply because I think financially that is much harder to get to the top level at than the other sports are. I mean...I know very little about all three, but if you were to ask me which one costs the most money to get to the top (and is therefore going to be the biggest blocker for any budding star) I'd say golf.

I used to play pool and darts in after work competitions. We used to joke about the "alcoholic peak" after maybe 3 or 4 pints where you would play better for a bit due to less nerves. It didn't last long though and form would deteriorate after another drink or two. A snooker 147 is incredibly difficult. A mate was a very good player who spent a lot of his time in the local snooker hall. He managed a century break once or twice I think but nowhere near a 147. Just try and put any kind of break together on a full size snooker table, it is so hard. I was not a bad pool player but never got much past 20 or 30 at snooker. Given the time it takes to score a 147 and the ability required to control many positional shots over an extended period, I'd say its harder than a 9 darter although that too is a tremendous achievement. As mentioned above, you can fluke a hole in one so I would say that is the easiest of the 3.

Not really a fair comparison as a hole-in-one requires just one shot. You can easily fluke one treble 20 but a 9 dart finish can't be done on luck alone. Similarly you can easily fluke one red but not a 147. For me, golf's 147 is probably more akin to scoring a birdie or less at every hole in a round.

Behind the eight ball means that you are stuck in an awkward of precarious situation. Like in pool if the ball you want to play is behind the 8 ball and difficult to play without accidently holing the 8 ball also.

Snooker, Golf or Darts on 16:25 - Jan 20 with 667 views | HamptonHoop | Reaching the top level in Golf would probably be more difficult, when you consider Darts and snooker, if you have space, can be played at home. I have played four rounds of golf in my life and did hit a hole in one, a few people saw it and were impressed, until they watched my next shot which was hopeless. Snooker, I used to play when I was younger and felt that I was getting better, but my biggest break was 28. Darts, I have hit five or six 180s but only when I am practicing, never in a game.
Snooker, Golf or Darts on 00:15 - Jan 21 with 520 views | qpr1976 | So the original thread question changed immediately into 3 singular achievements….. 147 toughest, Hole in one next, then 9 darter. But regards the threads op, both Darts and Snooker are played indoors, on the same sized table/board, dimensions/distance. Golf, however, is over Many different courses, with differing challenges, parkland, links, etc. Weather plays a major part, it’s outdoors, every course is different, with 18 different holes, 14 different clubs all doing different things, even the balls offer different outcomes. You’re not playing against just 1 opponent (unless on Ryder Cup singles day), you’re with others in a field of 120-160 (ish) ! I enjoy playing and watching all 3, there’s huge talent in all of them. Enjoy.

The whole bed to aim for, throw in the zone. Middle of the bed 1. Ouch. Lost the leg too as they checked out 91 in 2 darts. Brutal sport

So Rob what are your tips for getting better at darts? I assume other than hours and hours of throwing darts! I mean technique must play a big part too and I've still no idea really re stance, holding the dart, etc.

Time practising is important cos it allows you to experiment with stance, grip etc. I got dramatically better during lockdown cos i could play uninterrupted on my own for an hour each break experimenting with stance, grip, throw etc and double down on what worked. But here are the general pointers I give to people. 1. Dominant eye This often makes the biggest, quickest improvement. Your vision is not correct. Your brain is taking the imagery from two data points and merging them. But it takes one eye as the dominant one to give you one vision. So you think you're aiming from the centre of your face but you're actually seeing it from the centre of your dominant eye. Find out which it is - hold your finger in front of you, then look at with one eye closed at a time. The one where it's in the same place as with both eyes open is your dominant one - then when you stand at the oche line the centre of the board with the centre of that eye, and pull your arm over it to aim from the centre of that eye. 2. Stance I stand front on, but this more about comfort - I physically can't stand full side on. Going halfway with your foot slanted is a nice way for beginners to align their body as you can use your heel to line up with the centre of the board 3. Throw Main tip here is you want to minimise variance in movement and only really move your elbow. Bring your arm back, set, then throw. Helps allay going left or right. I also say try to go "to" the board. I imagine extending fully and having my finger point at where i want the dart to go. Take your time between throws and get a process and rhythm and stock to it. I find the slower I throw, the more accurate I am. 4. point the dart up Darts don't travel in a straight line, they arc. Face the tip pointing upwards to let it do that, then move it flatter depending on how fast you throw 5. Practise with purpose The amount of time in warm ups there'll be a go smoking T20 and you think "oft, don't want to play him" and then in a match they couldn't finish their dinner is alarmingly common. Trebles for show, doubles for dough. Don't throw aimlessly at the board. Pick a number and try to check it out. Do Round the World but just at doubles. A good MvG tip I picked up was if you do something amazing in practise, leave it there. Gives you the feeling "I can do it". If I hit a 100+ in warm up, I won't throw again till the games. I'm still not great, I average like 40/50, but I was maybe 20 when I started

I saw it on a Phil Taylor masterclass on YouTube and it made a huge difference to me straight away Interestingly, Taylor is right handed but left eye dominant which is why he brought the dart across his face

Best snooker break is only 45. Once got down the par five, fifth hole at RAF Marham in 19 shots with six balls lost! My best hope for glory would be breaking the world pike record (which I think is about 58lbs at the moment).
