The Next Managerial Appointment 08:43 - Apr 17 with 2431 views | grumpy | Has to be one of the most important in the clubs history. So many Saints Fans I speak to are to nearing giving up. Have we ever had so many managers in such a short time followed by so many heavy home defeats? Players arrive here and their form appears to go backwards. Our much vaulted Youth Academy doesn't appear to produce or is that they don't get a chance to show their worth? The names mentioned with the Saints Managers job, apart from Rohl or perhaps Lampard don't fill me with confidence. Please get this right this time.
The Next Managerial Appointment on 09:01 - Apr 17 with 2393 views | PatfromPoole | Arguably the appointment after Koeman was the most important in the last 15 years or so. We have been on a downward spiral ever since, with a brief respite last season. I know Nick will cite Puel getting us to a Cup Final and 8th place, but we were on the slide and the football was largely tedious under him. If we had continued to progress after Koeman left, who knows how many Cup Finals and European campaigns we would have had, or how big the ground would now be?

It's all if's & but's. We are where we are because of many reasons but the main one being very poor decisions & leadership from the top. They just cannot afford to get it wrong this time with the appointment of a new manager ( coach). But regardless of who the new man (or person) is they'll have one he'll of a job to save a sinking ship. But we live in hope. One thing is for sure we'll all still doing our bit to support the club long after they've gone. [Post edited 17 Apr 10:05]

Most of my posts have been critical this season but I want to see my club of choice succeed.
The Next Managerial Appointment on 10:58 - Apr 17 with 2239 views | kingslandstand1 | Or could it be that SR have realised the errors of their ways and decide to put the club up for sale? We can only hope though there's more chance of Trump seeing the errors of his ways .....
The Next Managerial Appointment on 13:30 - Apr 17 with 2112 views | Southamptonfan | The problem is again, any manager will struggle, if those above the manager, don't get the recruitment right. This is partly why so.many managers have failed, particularly in the PL, where it's absolutely essential to have QUALITY players, or you won't survive regardless. We try to make a profit and do things on the cheap. Easier to compete in the championship, but if and it's a big if, we go up again, we will struggle again, with SR because they arn't prepared to spend the money needed on the team. Managers arn't miracle workers, they need to have good players, particularly in the PL, where it's just about money. I hope it's Rohl, but he needs to be properly supported. I didn't dislike Puel, he did very well considering the players wanting out (i.e. Van Dyke and co) and the fact that he had to replace such a massive figure in Koeman (and his brother). Koeman is still my favourite Saints manager and I'd love to have him back, but I just think it would never be the same as we just can't get players like Mane, Pelle and so on now. It wouldn't happen. We do recruitment badly and they'd also now be too expensive already. Sigh.

"we just can't get players like Mane, Pelle and so on now. It wouldn't happen. We do recruitment badly" Paul Mitchell is DOF at Newcastle now; it's no wonder they are doing so well. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/football/the-best-newcastle-united-coach-issues- [Post edited 17 Apr 15:45]

It was Koeman who got Pelle and Sane in. They were his finds, if he came back no doubt he would know of other undiscovered gems. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Didn’t Koeman and his brother both wish to stay but we wouldn’t match Everton’s salary offer ? If that were the case it’s ironic given the £millions we have wasted settling the contracts of a succession of managers ever since.

Les Reed resented the fact that Koeman and his brother had too much power, and wanted them out. During Reed's end of season speech he didn't even thank Koeman or give him any recognition for having such an amazing season.

Not sure Lawrie was our greatest manager but he certainly gave us some of our greatest moments. Lawrie's strengths were bringing in proven, experienced players & just letting them express themselves. There's a lesson to be learnt there SR. [Post edited 17 Apr 21:13]

If that is the choice I think I'd go Lampard but that won't happen cos of the cost, and we are a club in turmoil with sh1t owners, Cov are a club on the up
The Next Managerial Appointment on 15:12 - Apr 18 with 1055 views | GRIM | I'd take Chris Wilder if he was available which he won't be because Sheffield United will get promoted & take our place in Premier lge. But I personally think he'd be a great choice for our club. He tends to go under the Radar but is a great motivator & capable of improving players. He's also got a connection to our club having started his playing career with our youth team. [Post edited 18 Apr 15:17]

Absolutely. Post Koeman was when things started progressively getting worst. At the time I wasn’t a major fan of Puel (mainly due to the scant regard he gave Europe when we had bust a ball to get there). Mind you looking back now he is the best of the bad bunch since. Anyone that cites Rylan can swing as I still hold that his ego and approach put us on the back foot this season from the off. Football a lot of the time is about momentum and confidence and whilst are squad really isn’t great, I still think there was enough within not be relegated by xmas. [Post edited 19 Apr 12:32]

The Next Managerial Appointment on 13:20 - Apr 19 with 733 views | felly1 | Currently Leeds and Burnley look like they're heading for promotion. Farke has two promotions to the the Premier League Parker has two as well. Sean Dyche , currently out of work has two promotions to the Prem. . As Pat pointed out in this thread this wouldn't be wacky enough for us under our current owners. Cooper would also be a sensible choice. Both play dull football but who cares if we're winning for a change.
