Thanks Clive.

As you concede, you have had a lot of this prepared for some time but at 00.15 that is above and beyond the call of duty.

And of course spot on as usual.

As far as i can see this (and yes, it is in my acceptaqnce of my naivety) I maintain that you cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and you should not blame the manager for the inadequacies of the players he has had to field.

Paal has been attrocious on the left and I would love to know the stats for goals conceded following a cutting in past Paal.

Our strikers have been non existent

Injuries have meant our trying to dress up players as having some quality and they haven't.

Our keeper doesn't claim the ball, our set piece plays either dont clear first man or can be over hit.

We cannot seem to go more than 5 games without a foul throw

Our players cannot seem to pass to each other

We are the worst team in the league for the players going to sleep at half time and conceding a goal between 45 and 60 minutes.

So, given a company where the staff are effectively 'temping' and looking forward to when they can get away...how does a manager suddenly get something out of them when we can all see the absolute lack of quality in a number of them!

Nourrey should have at least allowed Marti to get rid of the dross (as best he can), shured up the left flank once Paal has gone and arranged for the keeper coach to show Naardi how to come and claim a ball!

This is more about having Marti being dealt the equivalent of a a poker hand each week with 2-7s and no pairs and expecting him to win the pot!

A sad day at the end of a sad season after a desperate season !

Thank you Clive - A brilliant well balanced article.

Such a shame it ended like this but hopefully we will get our compensation.

Interesting to see Xavi hasn't gone on gardening leave and will take the team on Saturday. Maybe just maybe we have the new man already in situ.

It would make sense - I always felt we missed a trick not going with Eustace after Warburton.

Thanks for everything Marti - We had some good times but as my late Dad always said "Nothing in life is forever"

And sadly mate, inevitable. When did we sit together in the Crown? And hasn’t it played out exactly as said then?

Great summary, makes me even more sad to lose a decent man and manager.

The complete differential between QPR Twitter and the majority on here (or in the grounds) is remarkable really. I suspect it is a little bit of an age thing - the common way to move on when you are younger is to blame them and protect your territory - but also Twitter does amplify stuff. They slag off Field / Smyth etc all season yet at the matches....I just don't feel that at all.

So I am inclined to think keyboard warriors.

Cheers Clive. You have a great knack for pitching it right when this maddening club arrives at one of its regular tricky but self-inflicted crossroads. Like a funeral eulogy, striking a suitably sombre tone, but a couple of mood-lightening gags dropped in to stop us all descending into an even darker place (I'm looking at you, Pink Panther's tail).

As a fan from what you neatly summarise as the "Bowles, Thomas, Francis, Dave Sexton, and total QPR football in the 70s" era (now feels positively Jurassic), I think three words from the middle of the piece pretty much sum up where this latest chapter sits in the never-ending W12 novel - "very QPR indeed."

I do wonder if the Snake Emoji Twitter Mob go to games...I've seen the young'uns looking as onside with MC as us retired cabbies. My own young'uns certainly are (were). Talking of which, can I propose one more group to add to your roll of 'teams who hooked us in' honour - for my kids' generation, "Bircham, Rowlands, Shittu et al bombing around Olly's cave" was definitely a much-needed spark.

Very tempting to turn off all Rs-related notifications for the next 3 months, then pitch up at the first game, buy a programme for the first time in 15 years, cast an eye over the squad list, then open the pages to find out who the hell they all are, and read introductory notes from a manager I've never heard of. I know you can't do that, and am sure I speak for the whole LFW congregation in being very grateful for that.

I try and think when I was that age I was furious if anyone left the club, I hated Paul Parker, Sinton and Seaman. I used to slaughter Dave Bardsley to my mates, thought he was rubbish until 92/93 season
I used to bombard my dad with opinions on QPR and he'd basically tell me I was talking nonsence. I was basically an idiot who thought he knew it all, not much has changed really.

I'm glad I didn't have social media back then though

Ha that's so true, mate. I went apoplectic when Seaman left and posed in that Arsenal shirt before he did so. Nearly attacked half the Loft when they clapped him on his return. I too told everyone Bardsley was hopeless. I still want to shout Judas at Andy Sinton when he walks round, even to this day.

Maybe I never recovered from El Tel leaving us, I could swear in my very young days he came on the pitch and told us he was staying?

I think it is an age thing, although as the poster says below my son is 19 and is very much on our side plus the youngsters at the games don't reflect that.

depressing, thoughtful, maddening and insightful..........

a brilliant piece Clive that explains the current state of the club superbly

just such a ballache to have to read through it over breakfast and then see the name J Terry in the list of potential managers; ffs.

I for 1 will continue to drink a certain Spanish lager type beverage and think fondly of Marti

as a group of us refer to these moments with a catch all phrase ...... QPR, innit

Where has John Terry been linked? In a way, would like it to happen. Means we could abuse him for the 4 games he lasts plus surely would sign Nourry's P45 warrant.

Yes its often forgotten how much stick Bardsley used to get from our fans before he became a crowd favourite.

A well balanced article, it’ll be interesting to see how next season pans out for us and for Marti.

I’m fixated regards your revelation that Marti wanted to be a head coach and not a manager but has since suggested that he wanted more control. Well Marti, that’s called a manager, so make your bloody mind up.

In the end, that is the problem with this relationship and has and always will be, as per Les role as DOF. A manager has to have an ego, that ego doesn’t want an employee above him calling what he sees as his shot. That’s what keeps going wrong here.

If Nourry keeps his present role it’ll happen again.

You'd missed the key distinction there Steve - it was Nourry who said "he wants to be a head coach, not a manager".

Superb article Clive. You were right all along. I fall into the 'blinkered' column on this one. I was kind of aware things weren't great but thought, well, Marti sees this as a longer term legacy project, Nourry (when we started playing well) may not be as naive as he seems, and even if they don't get on so well, they are both younger people who can work through it. I was obviously totally wrong because 'I hoped' and of course 'hope' really isn't a word that has any foundations in modern QPR history.

I do fear that Nourry, being as young as he is, and as headstrong as he seems to be, may actually put off the more mature potential applicants and that we may find it difficult to attract anyone, unless they see us a 6-7 figure short term cash cow for half a bad season. Gary O'Neil can do better than QPR. Miron Muslic can rebuild Argyle in League 1 and has good backing there. Alan Sheehan will most probably be jettisoned by Swansea and while his caretaker stints have both been excellent for them he only has a handful of games to his name as a caretaker. I think he has a bright future but starting that in earnest at QPR seems madness. Russell Martin fits the QPR brief but would inherit a side incapable of putting 2 passes together. Perhaps as the director of football/DOF is in his 20s we actually need an older and more experienced head in charge of the team. Tony Mobray, who is ridiculously still only 61, would be that man in an ironic job swap. His health being the only issue, but he has so much experience in putting physical hard b*stard teams together at this level. It's not pretty but it finishes top 10 most seasons and is assembled by putting the prompt in Chat GBT that says 'what 11 players in this division would win 7 out of 10 pub fights?'

Never knowingly right.

Great words Clive I tried to explain the concerns and goings on around the club re nourry and lots on here harassed me about it. Everything you say re nourry is true I just hope we can get over this farce quickly. The audit nourry carried out on matchdays also a farce has no experience whatsoever. How is he qualified to do that ? Ben Williams situation is disgraceful well said about how les was accused of similar. As for the next cab on the rank - Rob Edwards ?

Poll: Now it’s slightly clearer cut who do you want as manager ?

We'll see. Lots of people will want it because that's football. I think you'd have to be certifiable to want to come and work for these people at the moment.

Well that’s just a consequence of one of the fundamental problems since last summer - lack of transparency. We don’t know what Marti wants or doesn’t want because we don’t get his views.

If, and it’s a big if, he has turned around and asked for the rules of the game to change (I.e., no I actually do want what manager says manager gets because you lot are idiots) I don’t think that’s right either and the club are within their rights to say that’s not what you signed up to (again, if that was the deal).

Even if the board sacked Nourry instead, gave Marti the keys to the castle and then he walked off to Leicester anyway then in reality what’s changed? We’re in the same place with the same deck of shi* cards.

He was always going to leave one way or another, it’s just sad it’s this toxic.

Oh the lack of transparency point is unbelievably spot on.

Nourry's communication strategy is dire.

Fans should not accept it. They should be very worried about it, and making noise. We are the constant, it's our club, not his.

Well in some respects, that is semantics.

You’ll remember better than me but wasn’t Nourry in situ when Marti took the job? He certainly was when Marti extended his contract. By definition, Marti was accepting that role as Head Coach so hardly surprising if Nourry then states that as fact.

The truth as is I see it, Marti is probably like any other manager and eventually got miffed about the situation particularly when things were going awry.

Nothing new in this, it’s been happening ever since we went the DOF route.
