Ashley Trujillo, are we allowed nice things? 15:21 - May 1 with 9362 viewsWelsh_Ranger

Hi all,

So, a possitive possibly and not joining the Marti convo but I was looking on Newsnow at QPR related stuff and this kid who plays for our U18's has been linked with WHU and Villa couldn't really find much about him on the offish but he seams to be a bright prospect, anyone know much about him?

anyone got any idea on what the rules are for signing young players these days ?

I wondered that until it was said he was born in London, so the same as all our academy boys. I believe, he's too young to sign a pro contract. If another club pinched him we would only get the paltry compensation.

Some part of me wants the club to be keeping these players away from the spotlight and in this age of social media thats impressive! But their is nothing on our squad list that even mentions this kid, no profile or anything.

The other part of me would love to know about our success stories and without hyping young players up too much to know whats coming through the ranks - share the good news just like with the development squad.

I'm not naive enough to think everyone's going to make it or in our case not be poached by a bigger fish especially as people within the football world seem to know about this kid already.

On a side note I hope he looks at the examples before him, Sutton recently as we all know signed his first contract with us after speculation linking him with Spuds and someone else - wishful thinking.

I think he's still technically an U16 player so won't likely be mentioned as a profile until he reaches the 18s, hopefully next season if he still plays for us.

Poll: Moses Odubajo - Stick or Twist?

Did he actually score a goal on that reel?

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

2nd para hits nail on head.
We've not had a single report re the U18s this season. Not a team sheet nor scorers. Only news is when 1 goes on loan, e.g. Ridwan Hassan. But, even then, zero feedback.

You can totally see why the club say nothing about the kids.
Didn't Les list out some of the kids that we couldn't hold on to?
Harvey Elliot just won the Premier League and was stolen from our academy by Fulham.

The youth system is so broken in this country that any larger club can just walk up to the Concord Club and talk to the parents of our best players.

Maybe they offer to buy them a new car, or help them move house.
QPR get about 50p for their troubles and their time at the academy is a footnote on the wiki page.

I'm not sure how you begin to stop that.

Even if you make the academy Cat 1, this would still happen, the club might get a bit more money, but it costs a lot more to run a Cat 1...

You could argue that QPR now has proven pathways to first team football, that maybe were not there when Harvey Elliot left?
But, I'm not sure that is a large factor for a lot of the parents of these kids if West Ham come knocking.

You can see why a few other clubs have binned off academies all together and focussed on picking up older kids that get released, like we did with Eze.

Nick, can't disagree with a thing that you've written. We can only live in hope that the new structures, the pathway and the training ground hold some weight. It's disappointing the potential talent that we have lost along the way.

In most circumstances parents will look out for the best interests of their children, not always I understand but I suppose naively this is the battleground we are in. We have to hope that for every Harvey Elliot we loose that their is an Emerson Sutton etc to fill the void.

I'm intrigued by the youth set up and the work thats gone into it could play a major part in our future but its a lottery at that age, for every Elliot their is a Balanta and a Richards. I think to quote an American football article only 0.1% of college players make the big time and i think its the same in our youth set ups.

Sorry, i think ive waffled and gone off tangent a few times but I'm sure you understand.

Lets not forget that the recruitment process at Brighton is highly regarded as one of the best around and they bought Taylor Richards, so they won't all be winners.
I think I've heard that in some other academies, there might be one player in that whole year group who will 'make' it and then a couple of others who might get a career in the game

As far as I am aware, as he is only 16 he does not have a contract with the club and can only get a contract once he turns 17. That's December so there will be a lot of sharks trying to entice him before then.

Hopefully we can get him in and around the first team during pre-season. He certainly looks capable of stepping up.

He was only sixteen, only sixteen
We loved him so
He was to young to sign the dotted line
And we were too dumb to know.

A good few years back my brother worked on Youth Development at Wycombe. They had a hot prospect they knew they couldn't keep. Arsenal were favourites to sign him but he ended up at Spurs, fell out x=with Clive Allen, and drifted down into semi-pro.

Earlier he sais that every club in the London area knew about Joe Cole, when he was 14.
Basically, if you have a decent prospect, everybody else will know very quickly.

Without hijacking this thread and making it about Welsh players ;) I think we have two at different stages of their journey within the R's set up and plenty more doing incredibly well within other youth setups!

I can only imagine with a username like that that you are another Welsh R!

U16s sign a 12 month contract When they turn 17 they are allowed to sign a two year contract. This is the maximum legally allowed.
