Sat behind Dougray Scott on a flight back from Glasgow after watching Hibs at Hampden (he's a Hibby and his young son had a Fulham bag - what a family)

The Hairy Bikers (RIP) were on a flight back from NYC. Disappointingly, they were not revving their engines, and riding their motorbikes slowly down the aisle.

Sat next to Roy Hodgson on a Wizz Air flight from Luton to Belgrade. Draped a jumper over his lap and wan ked him off whilst he read 'Don Quixote' (in Spanish) and ate a prosciutto panini. *

* this one did not happen.

Was on the same flight as Craig Charles (of Red Dwarf fame) from Dublin to the UK. There was some minor issue on arrival, I can't remember what exactly, but he acted like he was far too important to be treated like everyone else. Just pushed in to the front of the queue at the airport without a second thought for anyone else and interrupted the member of staff who was trying to deal with another passenger.

Not quite on a plane but saw the Italian rugby team waiting to board at a gate next to ours at Dublin airport.

Not on a plane but was once on the ferry to Ireland from Fishguard to Rosslare and Graham Norton was also onboard. It was a really rough crossing and loads of people were seasick. Everyone was desperate to get off when we docked and I guess he hadn't enjoyed it at all because he looked like he would punch anyone who approached him.

Adrian Chiles on an EasyJet flight to Dubrovnik. We were in one of those queue snakes at check-in at Gatwick. A smile and a nod of recognition as we passed each other heading in opposite directions. Five minutes later, another smile and a nod. Five minutes later…

The first time I ever went to Johnannesberg for work I arrived at about midnight thanks to a delayed flight and realised my phone didn't work, my bank card didn't work, I had no local cash, and no way of getting hold of my local contact (this was 20 years ago).

As I stood outside the airport feeling sorry for myself Robert Mugabe swept past with full security detail and they shoved me out of the way.

Was a warm welcome

I thought you were going to say that he spotted you 1,000 Rand. He's gone down even further in my estimations.

Sat a few rows behind Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville on a flight from London to Manchester a few years ago. They were getting lost of attention, Giggs was - if not friendly, at least not rude to people, Neville just sat there with his headphones on pretending not to notice anyone trying to speak to him.

Sorry everyone. I win.

Got upgraded at Cincinnati airport for a flight down to Florida...only to find myself next to Ringo Starr.
We talked all things drumming, I taught him a few things and we parted ways.

I bet he still thinks about that to this day.

Two from me.

Sinead O'Conner was sat next to me on a flight to Lisbon. (her band were up in Business but she wanted to smoke in Economy).

Best one was on a London to Sydney flight on New years day 2011. The plane stopped for an hour or so in Singapore for refuel and passenger changing. As i walked off the plane, a voice behind me said 'Hey buddy - can you smoke in this goddamn airport (having spotted my fags in my hand). So i spent an hour chatting away in Singapore airport smoking room with the Hoff. He was massively hungover as was I (new years day) and had been doing panto at Wimbledon theatre. All rather surreal.

A friend of mine was behind Andy Cole in the hand luggage screening line at Heathrow. AC was asked to open his briefcase. The only thing in it was a large studded black leather collar on a long silver chain.

I was behind Bradley Wiggins in LHR security queue, he was a complete 'do you not know who i am' ar$e. His wife was just as bad, possibly worse.

Sat behind Bryan Habana on a flight to Dublin. Top, top bloke and the only drawback is I can no longer say I've never met a nice South African. Was stood for about 10mins while the bags were offloaded and he talked me through his try in Dublin in 2006. What a gent. Ripped to fùck as well.

Made eye contact with a stressed Dara Ó Briain flying on a delayed Aer Lingus flight from Shannon to Heathrow. His young kids were kicking off, his wife looked pìssed off and he's a big old unit so raised a laconic eyebrow and left it at that.

Jimmy Rabbite on an early Ryanair flight to Stansted.

Said he was meeting Terry Wogan and Wilson Pickett.

I was at South Mimms services with my youngest lad when he spotted Bobby Zamora with his kids, my Lad said you can't disturb him but I was having none of It.
I approached him and firstly apologized for interrupting him whilst he was with his kids, I then launched Into a two minute speech thanking him for his goal at Wembley and how It made an old Man (me) and gawd knows how many other Rangers fans behind the goal happy *that* day.
As I was talking to him he was looking at me with the expression on his face that said 'who the f uck Is this' ?
When I finished making myself look an Idiot he smiled at me and thanked me for my kind words, I found him to be quite humbling but absolutely genuinely pleased to have met a fan.

Lovely bloke.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Business lounge at Miami airport with a work colleague. Both into our music and started waxing lyrical about getting back into some early punk, started praising one Iggy Pop in particular as being very good. My mate has been nodding to me at this point, then says well you can tell him yourself he is behind you.

I turned he was standing behind me with a plate from the lounge buffet (it was pretty sub par to be honest). He smiled nodded and went back to his own seat. Really chill. I did my impression of a gold fish for about 5 minutes.

Never knowingly understood

Not airborne but an overnight intercity circa 1979. Alex Higgins and the manager of the Willesden Junction public house, coming back from Glasgow, totally shit faced, as were we. Great company for a couple of hours, then we ran out of drink and they got off at Crewe to look for more refreshment. Train pulled away without them.

Did you get on a plane at South Mimms services?
Impressive stuff.

The Mrs and me were once on a flight to Amsterdam with the late great Andy The Viking Fordham.
We didn’t spot him before or on the flight (surprisingly because it was before his big health scare & weight loss)
But we happened to be quite close behind him as we were walking through Schiphol to baggage reclaim. I said “alright Andy” and he gave us a big smile.

At Manchester airport, I nearly tripped over a hold-all that someone had carelessly placed on the floor outside a shop. The hold-all owner El Hadji Diouf was very very apologetic.
Later on I noticed Allardyce and the whole Bolton squad were in the vicinity.

Which has reminded me of one my most cringe moments. Jimmy Page and his gf were on the same flight as me back from San Fran about 7 years ago. He wasn't sat near me but he was stood near me at the luggage carousel at LHR. I debated whether to go up to him not in a conflicted way for about 10 mins. And i went up to him and said 'Jimmy, sorry to bother you, i just wanted to say Thank you for the music'. I've hated myself ever since, what an utter cvuntish thing to say. He of course was true gent and shook my hand and said thank you very much.

As a skint student, I sat next to Glen Roeder on the way back from Newcastle when he was manager there.

Was too shy to say anything, which as the dozen or so posters on this forum who have met me will find hard to believe.

Deliberately left my QPR key ring on the fold down table hoping he’d say something. He didn’t but seemed friendly when I needed to push past him for a piss.

Zammo used to cut our keys from his shop near Hackbridge. At least 20 years ago though!

He still has his key cutting shop . In Wallington .

Still got a huge pic of himself on the wall from Grange Hill days .
Seems a nice chap though
