the whole 'passage of play' rule regarding offside is farking idiotic and this has been an accident waiting to happen.
not blaming the lino as she did exactly as instructed; but when it is that clear, just put the flag up.
i'm surprised that it hasn't happened earlier, but with an over the top challenge that a defender knows is a free hit as the player is offside, but this clash has horrible viewing and had he not gone for it, would have bene accused of bottling it.

Good luck to him and I hope the good that can come out of this (apart from his recovery) is they do away with this stupid rule. When it's so fking obvious they're offside, just put the flag up. It's as though we may as well not bother with having a ref and lino's, let the game flow then review every single thing at whatever point the ball is out of play. I said on a previous pot that if a player gets treated on the pitch by the physio they have to stay off for 30 seconds.This should also apply to a substitute if they come on for that injured player,unless it was the result of a red or yellow card offence.
I lost count of the amount of times the officials were conned last season by players receiving treatment and then managing to stroll to the sidelines and a substitute sprinting straight on to replace them. | | | |

It's not just slowing the clocks down though is it, though the added time frequently doesn't cover close to what has been wasted. It's also time wasted to break up the rhythm/fluency/continuation of the oppositions attacks trying to hold on to a point or three. [Post edited 14 May 11:14]

For 2 years I have been whinning to anybody who is within earshot about that stupid offside rule.
Countless times keepers has to make dangerous ,reckless saves on what is basically a dead play and almost as many times defenders had to slide tackle from behind to try and prevent a shot on goal which would not have counted.
Change that idiotic rule just put up the flag let the ref blow it dead and start again.I dont care about the ocasional bad call which might cast a chance of a goal VAR makes more than enough horrible offside decisions in one game |  | | |
