Rangers Mysteries 11:21 - May 16 with 6510 views | BrianMcCarthy | How did Jan Stejskal end up at Rangers? Who discovered him? Who scouted him? How did the scout convince the club and Don Howe to sign him? Such an unusual move for 1990.

Rangers Mysteries on 12:23 - May 16 by BrianMcCarthy | Stejskal was a mechanic, wasn't he? |
I think he sent a film to demonstrate his drop kicks and he was also THE mechanic. No doubt he was injured when we signed him - at least one metatarsal by the look of the clip.

Rangers Mysteries on 20:30 - May 16 by bosh67 | The penalty save against Newcastle in the last minute was a particular highlight. It was like an eagle swooping. Not sure how he got it away. |
For me it was the save from Mark Hughes at Loftus Road in front of the away end. Much as I hate Hughes, he knew how to hit a ball and struck it like a rocket. Big Jan came from nowhere to keep it out.
Rangers Mysteries on 10:35 - May 17 with 1327 views | DannyPaddox | I’ve always thought Jan had a passing resemblance to Mark E. Smyth. Late in his career the Fall would release a song called Theme from Sparta F.C. Curious. Mysterious even.

The one I remember is a great save at Anfield from an Ian Rush volley. I think in the game we won 3-1 up there?

Rangers Mysteries on 21:36 - May 16 by Toast_R | Can never understand how a goalkeeper who ended up second fiddle to Tony Roberts, gets so much appreciation? |
You'll have to ask Gerry Francis why he seemed to favour Coco The Clown over Stejskal, many - me included - couldn't fathom it out. I'd have had him in over that useless tosser every time. People have said he wasn't great with his feet after the backpass change but even if it was the case, I never saw Big Jan chuck one into the net like Coco did against Ipswich, Norwich, Barnsley and others. Because Francis couldn't spell his name on the team sheet.

I agree Stejskal was far better than Roberts, but every now and then he would have a meltdown 90 mins like that 3-1 defeat against palace. Absolute shocker… he then got dropped.
Rangers Mysteries on 08:06 - May 19 with 625 views | daveB | i think he was signed before that World Cup, I rember watching that game against Italy where they lost knowing the keeper was coming to QPR or maybe he was just linked to us at the time. I don't think he actually joined until part way through the following season. His debut was at Leeds in October
