Rangers Mysteries 11:21 - May 16 with 2705 views | BrianMcCarthy | How did Jan Stejskal end up at Rangers? Who discovered him? Who scouted him? How did the scout convince the club and Don Howe to sign him? Such an unusual move for 1990.

Rangers Mysteries on 11:36 - May 16 with 1887 views | derbyhoop | Given the cosmopolitan collection of new recruits over the last 2 years, you have a hard job understanding current recruitment routes. Let alone, those from 35 years ago. The volume of data available these days far outstrips the 1990s approach, which relied on physical scouts across the globe. Still no substitute for an experienced football man judging a player's footballing ability and character.

Rangers Mysteries on 11:59 - May 16 with 1779 views | bermudabob | One of my brothers was a youth keeper at Rangers during Jan's time. Jan used to pick him up from the tube station in a battered old car to take him to keeper training. Lovely chap apparently. Different times

Stejskal was a mechanic, wasn't he?

Rangers Mysteries on 12:24 - May 16 with 1599 views | NorthLondonR | Me and my mate Jeremy found a J. Stejskal listed in the local telephone book, however the individual lived in Aldeburgh, Suffolk, so not sure that'd be a sensible daily commute. But I did try and call them several times, but they never picked up.. I think I was about 9 at the time!

Yes, we bought him on the back of his appearances in the World Cup. I'm guessing we were hoping that Zan Celar would be similarly effective after making the Euros last year, but having watched the Devt Squad last night, I make that 5 strikers that we now have with more wherewithal.
Rangers Mysteries on 12:41 - May 16 with 1502 views | Rangersw12 | IIRC he didn't arrive until Sparta were knocked out of Europe. I think that must have contributed towards his shaky start but for me one of the best keepers I've seen Still annoying that GF used alternate him with Tony Roberts

Had a bit of breakdown when the back pass rule came in. The only player I’ve seen less comfortable with the ball at his feet was Devon White.

Rangers Mysteries on 17:03 - May 16 with 1204 views | numptydumpty | I scouted him when watching Italia 90 Brian or maybe I didn't.... For me, he was the best keeper in the tournament. Was amazed we had bought him.

Rangers Mysteries on 20:02 - May 16 with 1020 views | mart_Goblin | Spoke very little English but had a great sense of humour big Jan. Great keeper I don’t know much of the ins and outs of the deal to get him here but I’m pretty sure there is some slightly sketchy stories behind it and who went to close it, but something tells me Brian knows that and is mischievously fishing 😄😄😄. I could be wrong of course . I usually am, so if so apologies Brian 😉

The penalty save against Newcastle in the last minute was a particular highlight. It was like an eagle swooping. Not sure how he got it away.

No, I'm not fishing Mart. I promise. I just genuinely was thinking about it and couldn't remember how the signing worked. It just struck me all of a sudden how we signed a player from Eastern Europe for the first time ever, and he came to us, and he was very good for us. I actually thought of it as a good podcast, from a history point of view.

Same - I was thinking "what have we gone and done here" and furiously thumbing my Czech phrasebook for "biscuit wrists" ("sušenková zápěstí" apparently) but he turned out better than alright. Looking back on YouTube, he couldn't do a lot with either goal. Les loses Deane for the first and Channing(?) makes a hames of a petty routine throw out and we're always in the shìt from then.
