Pre-season on 11:07 - Jul 7 by PlanetHonneywood | I'm jumping the gun a bit here, but I was speaking with Montpellier R earlier, and I am sure he will correct if I've missed anything. However, he has been in touch with the local tourist office and they said that there remains a query about the pitch's suitability! Now, this is France and joined up thinking is generally beyond them, but worth having at the back of our minds. As an example of local French joined up thinking, I have two friends coming out for the game. On the day they are flying back to the UK, Le Tour rolls into town, so we won't be able to get the PlanetMobile out from our car park to take them to the airport. There's an airport bus so I went to the transport office to inquire if it will run and if so, where from? I managed to convey that 'je ne sais pas' is not as helpful an answer as they may think. Accordingly, two of them embarked on the challenge of solving the riddle that a few hundred people may soon face. 30 seconds later their two shrugs indicated the challenge was beyond them and the time it might take to crack the Da Vinci code might impinge on their impending lunch! |
God I love the French. | | | |
Pre-season on 21:20 - Jul 7 with 2741 views | HammersmithR | My cousin lives near to where this game is taking place. He’s been to Rangers many times. He said this is the perfect bar for Rangers fans when they’re over. Sadly I’m not over for the game but will be out there a couple of weeks later. He says it’s been roasting out there. https://www.canet-tourisme.com/en/restaurant/ocan-memain/
Pre-season on 11:28 - Jul 8 with 2300 views | Watford_Ranger | I’ve booked what is my first and most likely last QPR trip on foreign soil so it would be nice to see some sort of football. Was thinking with it being pay on the gate they may have underestimated numbers if Toulouse bring a few. Never done that part of France and only heard good things.

Number 3 bus from right outside the castle towards CANET Sud. Couple of decent bars on the square just there which the rugby fans will takeover on Saturday.

You'll be OK getting to the game, as Le Grand Boucle is still in the Pyrenees on the Friday. But, it is the Sunday when it finishes in Carcassonne. From past experience the gendermarie will be closing roads from early morning. The Tour route comes in from north of Carcassonne, so you may be able to find a route around , depending where exactly you live.

This is beginning to remind me of the time I was living in Phnom Penh, and someone off the dot.org DM'd me that his Rangers supporting son was cycling around the world and would be in town just after Christmas. I naturally offered full board, lodgings, beers, and laundry services to the boy, and for weeks we made detailed arrangements for where to meet and how to recognise each other. As it turned out, at around 11am on a middle Friday in January, on the south west corner of the Independence Monument, there weren't many blokes standing around in a QPR shirt looking for a bloke wearing a similar shirt while riding an endurance bike. DM me your number. Maybe if others want to as well, we can do a WhatsApp group. Acouple of chums and I are staying over. I think Montpellier R is game only.

Can’t think why there would be an issue with the pitch. I’ve watched a few games there over the years. I have a hospital appointment that afternoon and so it will be a desperate dash to get to the ground. The Toulouse ultra’s are a bit tasty so I’ll be going tooled up as indeed will the good lady wife.

I wonder if the three trialists are the three lads from Uzbekistan: Saidumarkhon Saidnurullaev, Bekhruz Karimov and Bekhruz Shukurullaev? And yes, I did copy and paste their names.

Talking of trialists, Kakay played for Blackpool last night. Hope he gets a club.

How easy is it to get back to Perpignan late in the evening? The places I’ve looked at in Canet are so much more expensive than Perpignan, and I wonder if it was practical to get back there afterwards.

It's easily done mate. I reckon a lot will be heading back into Perps because it's a much better night out. Not sure what the score is with the bus into the evening but the local taxi company is +33 04 68 35 15 15 and they're good with English speakers and advance booking (well, they got Simmo and I round Perpignan for a week in states you can only imagine and we made our flight home so...).
