Is it time to admit that Ultras are the way forward? 17:25 - May 17 with 6096 viewstheselector

I know lots of people think that the ultra culture is a bit foreign, a bit orchestrated and not very spontaneous.

But... watching Palace fans in the cup final, and at most home games, they create an atmosphere. Constantly.

We might have an amazing atmosphere at Loftus Road for some games, but let's be honest, it can be pretty dead sometimes. Especially when things aren't going well on the pitch.

So is it time to put our prejudices aside and accept that this is the way forward?

Chuffed for Eze, he deserves it.

Be nice if it rubbed off on us one day. Hey ho.

i'll tell you what, if we would have been allowed to have a full house thursday, we'd have been even better and louder....
palace fans must feel great today, but thursday i felt even better...
a cups a cup....when its your team.

Poll: how many games this season....home/away.

I'm sorry the amount of pettiness on this is ridiculous, palace fans were great, probably created one of the best atmospheres at a final, didn't stop singing and probably helped the players over the line, if that was us we would all be saying we were the 12th man and helped our players and what incredible fans we are. Is this the world we live in now? Just give credit where credit is due for God's sake. Rant over.

They make lots of noise and it makes a fun atmosphere to listen to, better than a dead stadium.

I watched the last couple of Scottish Championship games on BBC and noticed the large groups of youngsters watching the games making lots of noise, and yeah the fashion etc may be cringe but you know what, good for them for going out with their mates to support their local club and not joining the Celtic/Rangers bandwagon and never going near a football ground in their lives.

I don’t think it’s petty to resent the need for 100 tvvats in white shirts,a drum and a muppet with a megaphone to create an atmosphere when you’ve got over 40k fans at a cup final. And I think their 12th man was the var official.
We made a proper atmosphere on Thursday night and there were only 6,500 of us.

Agreed. Young lads, supporting their team, singing all game long, creating an atmosphere, good luck to them.

Especially as most Premier League London clubs are trying to move towards more Tourist Plastics and leave any real fans behind.

Having said that, watching someone 'give it a go' with a megaphone in the lower loft would be quite funny.

Being a goal up probably helped.

they were pretty loud before that as well, I always found their ultras thing a bit comical but they've stuck with it and the atmosphere at Selhurt is superb

I've (shamefully) enjoyed their cup run and I couldn't get why Fulham at home was so flat and they basically phoned it in in the quarters. Odd. I'd be seriously considering sacrificing my first born to win a quarter final.

Fair play. It’s cringey, but it works for them. The Palace support, and that’s what it was, was fantastic today - all game long.

Did I ever mention that I was in Minder?

It's like wearing a hat.

You try walking about with a hat tomorrow and all your mates and family will think you're a fking chief.

Do it for like two years and you'll end up being a hat guy.

Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. Stefan Moore, Stefan Moore running down the wing. He runs like a cheetah, his crosses couldn't be sweeter. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore. Stefan Moore.

This is true. Nobody can carry a hat like Bob Mortimer; not at my age.
Cheers bluce, I might give it a go.

Now then; hats. Could be a good thread. 😉

"Chief" is tragically underused as an insult. Calling someone a fùcking chief was the pre-social media equivalent of closing down any argument. See also "shìtcùnt" and "mongril" (both two cusses in one word).

Fans are normally loud for the 20 minutes of a game unless an early goal keeps it going. The 16th minute is still before most fans get bored and stop singing.
I don’t agree with grown men paying good money to go to a cup final and then turn your back on the game for most of it.

I see why people think it’s cringe, but I also think fair play to them. They’ve stuck to it, contributed to a good atmosphere on a historical day and will now get to live their dream in Europe next season. It’s their day, let them have it.

Yeah fair enough good luck to them. But as I said, not for me.

I think we would look even more ridiculous if we copied them.

Palace Ultras sound like some sort of hygiene product.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

If we had 13 seasons in the premier league instead of 13 months our crowd would be as loud as theirs without the need for drums or megaphones.
Remember how good our crowds were in the 2011-12 season, especially towards the end of the season in those last 5 home games.
