Is it time to admit that Ultras are the way forward? 17:25 - May 17 with 6077 viewstheselector

I know lots of people think that the ultra culture is a bit foreign, a bit orchestrated and not very spontaneous.

But... watching Palace fans in the cup final, and at most home games, they create an atmosphere. Constantly.

We might have an amazing atmosphere at Loftus Road for some games, but let's be honest, it can be pretty dead sometimes. Especially when things aren't going well on the pitch.

So is it time to put our prejudices aside and accept that this is the way forward?

Definitely not.Its up there with the clappers for me.
It’s their biggest game in their history and a lot of them are not even watching the game.

But they're outsinging the citeh fans, who may as well not be there. And they're having a laugh.

No way would our fans be told what to do by a bloke with a megaphone....we just don't like taking orders!?

I spent a fair bit of time In the first half looking up the noses of Palace & City fans thanks to the camera Man.

Lets see whats happening on the pitch please.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

Hmm, not sure why not. I'd rather go to a game and chant for 90 minutes than just sit there passively. And maybe you need blokes with megaphones to make that happen.

Put your prejudices aside and answer this question honestly: who has the better atmosphere at home games, us or Palace?

There'd be a stampede for the exits and a hundred People's Front of Judea-type 'Splitters' groups!

So you want a drum at home games?

It’s Palace’s ‘thing’. Nothing wrong with it but if everyone tried to force it it would become lame quickly. Arsenal gave it a go for a bit and it was just cringe.

Yep, that's a fair point. But doesn't mean we couldn't do something similar (but different).

All fans of Scottish Championship clubs do this but by and large they are all youngsters in their teens by the look of them. I think Motherwell fans started the trend in Scotland but that is just when I first noticed it up there.

Yeah, and I'll be the first to admit that 50 skinny teens all dressed in black athleisure wear is a bit cringe.

I hate it, it springs from authoritarian cultures where people are told what they can say and do. Horrible invasive species, up there with grey squirrels and Japanese knotweed.

Always found Palace a bit of a joke - Thunderbirds kits, West Ham kits, Fulham kits, Barca kits, Glad All Over, 'Ultras' - nah, can't be having any of that.

There are adults and children in this world. Children need direction, adults not so much.

When you say 'just sit there passively' do you mean 'watching the game'.

It was, as the kids say, a bit cringe when it started but they've stuck to it haven't they? It's become a part of who they are.
