Will Still taking a job in England…… on 15:21 - May 18 by felly1 | It really does feel like its going to be this guy. If thats the case, lets hope for the best, but I have to say its got the whiff of yet another Sports Republic disaster written all over it. |
I'd say more like a stench than a whiff. SR will NEVER learn because they are blinkered football incompetents seemingly incapable of learning from past mistakes. I think I have found one potential use for that video though; not been sleeping that well lately so I am thinking of putting it on as I settle down for the night...
Will Still taking a job in England…… on 23:32 - May 18 with 2360 views | saint22 | Clearly got potential but not what we need Cooper Dyche or similar for us, we need balls, energy, discipline, leaders all that we lack this year Plus I can’t see SR giving Still money to spend so we are destined for a leading process which means mid table obscurity We just never fkn learn do we

(No subject) (n/t) on 18:12 - May 18 by GRIM | If he gets the job then we'll be looking for a New Manager by Christmas 2025. Another coach that overcomplicates what is a very simple game. |
Having listened to his interview, I know you shouldn't judge someone on first appearance but he came across to me as everything that is wrong with football at the moment. He talks about it as if its a science, NO it isn't. You cannot play real football & work out tactics or systems on a computer. The reality is that in a real life football match there are so many variables that affect the game. Players can't always be were they're supposed to be, the ball doesn't always go where its supposed to go, the weather can affect a game. But most importantly it's likely that some players are just not able to play to the style / system that the computer generates. That's been the problem with us this season., the players are just not good enough either physically or mentally to play to the system dictated by the various coaches. You cannot blame the players for not being good enough, the blame lies with the coach trying to achieve the impossible. But we can blame our players for not putting in enough effort or not showing enough commitment.
Will Still taking a job in England…… on 08:55 - May 19 with 2162 views | Butty101 | Clearly im on my own here, but this guy has done a great job in France over a number of seasons. His team just finished 8th. He has set a couple records along the way - not the 9-0 drubbing types. My only worry is him wrestling with the player power. But then he must of faced that sort of problem in france as a complete unknown.

Great, he took Lens from 7th in the league to 8th. Sports Republic will never learn. Glad I won’t have to endure it next season.

I’m hardly hesitant in my criticism of Sports Republic and the club. However, we are not the best gig in town for managers now. The team is on its knees and Rusk is picking teams just to avoid a 10-0 defeat. It’s not going to be an easy job for a new manager, this.

I do wonder if that’s the case with some of our players though. Basics like man-marking appear to be beyond a number of them. And that’s some of the more experienced players…..

First half of the season Lens were flying, then they unloaded 3 players in January and dropped off. Looks exactly what SR are looking for.

We're a ship without a rudder Pat, the players must be on the floor confidence wise. It's the managers job to fix that. Spors is in charge of the football side of things now, we have a choice, give the man a chance, or just whine and moan and cry , and give up, before he has even had a chance to prove himself. It looks like its between Still and Rohl though [Post edited 19 May 11:23]

The reason they want him, is because he doesn't mind lots of players being sold. Lens sold their best players, and Still was able to manage that. So the reason we want him, is because when we sell anyone that's any good, he will be able to manage the situation. So many years of selling our best players, and signing poor ones. Living the dream under Sports Republic.

Will Still taking a job in England…… on 20:50 - May 19 with 1563 views | PatfromPoole | Seems that Will Still has 2 years left on his contract at Lens, so he may not be the cheap option as suspected. Bit odd that he has openly said he is not going to return to France. I thought he had resigned, but it appears not. Cheap option as things stand would be Cleverley….

Would much prefer Cleverley. I really can't see, JM aside, how a manager who has never played professional football can tell professional players how to play. Never managed in the championship Never managed in England. Never been a professional football player. What an earth could go wrong? The Southampton Way under SR. Lots of experienced managers with promotions on their cv's available (Cooper, Gary O neal, Dyche etc) and we go for the one who has never played football in his life, just on a computer game. Klopp didn’t have much of a playing career did he? Or dare I say Lawrie Mac?

Klopp played for a German team, not sure about McMenemy but I can't get my head around it. If you are learning to be a doctor, nurse, teacher, builder, you learn from qualified professionals who have done the job themselves. Can you imagine someone teaching a doctor hiw to carry out brain surgery from a coach who has read books on it, but have never done it?

It’s the modern game. All these coaches in their 30’s like the guy at Brighton. Rohl was 29 when Hassenhutl brought him to Saints.

Jose Mourinho…… Looking at how far we have fallen in the level of manager(s) we are touting, we just as well get one of our Social Media gimps in as Head Coach. [Post edited 20 May 8:29]

Will Still taking a job in England…… on 10:15 - May 20 with 1125 views | Ifonly | I said on the Dyche thread that we will get a young manager. Whoever it turns out to be, I think they will be young and fairly inexperienced. Will Still is exactly the sort of choice I'd expect. Part of the reason is that Spors will have his own ideas that he wants worked in. He doesn't want an old school manager who has developed a fixed way of working. Spors has said he wants high intensity football so that's what we'll get. Still has played this way before, but not all the time. Whoever the manager is, they've got their work cut out getting this Saints squad to play high intensity. Most of them hardly break sweat when they play. They've developed habits of playing slowly and it will take time to turn that around. Juric tried to get them to play with more intensity and it didn't work. It's the kind of change that can probably only happen with a full pre-season and a couple of new players who fit the style. Good luck to whoever takes over.

I watched his short video & must admit that I was bored half way thru it. But in true SR fashion he's likely to be our next manager / Coach so we'd better get used to it. But as the saying goes. " Where there's a Will, there's a way" [Post edited 20 May 17:05]

Apparently all terms have been agreed and they want him in before the Arsenal game. Just compensation to sort out .
