Very pleased Kairo released. He can cup his ear elsewhere now.

Suprised at Hogan offered a deal unless next season his brief is defend at all cost which is his strength.

That’s one list sorted…. now the recruitment starts I look forward with interest seeing who we can attract to the club and in what positions.

We look a miles better team with Liam Hogan not in it. Crazy decision to offer him a new deal, but it's the sort of judgement we've come to expect with this manager.

It’s more baffling when we are releasing Ferguson who, given time, may have more value going forward. We aren’t ever going to sell Hogan and Ferguson has some potential if given a chance.

The differences between their performances is minimal. Both played really well on occasion last season.

20+ more points needed to be competitive at the top of the table.

5/6 vacancies (excluding loans) to work towards that. Will be interesting to see how many of these start the first game next season.

Ferguson has been given two years of time and has only started a handful of matches. How much longer does McNulty give him? He obviously doesn't fancy him, thats been evident for a long time. I prefer Hogans experience but if we are to get back to the EFL i think we need better than him and EEL who are both well past their best. The goals we have recently conceded against Spennymoor and Southend should tell McNulty that. I would forget about signing Hogan and put the finances into bringing in a younger but experienced replacement. I dont rate Ferguson, i don't trust him with the ball at his feet and i think he's unaware of what's going on around him when I've watched him play, not switched on enough. I know others see it differently. He was well liked at Yeovil, he'll probably end up going there.

We aren't going to get out of this division with a 36yo Liam Hogan in the team. There's more than enough evidence to confirm that. His lack of pace when running towards his own goal was exposed a number of times, particularly away from home. He's also the worst culprit for slowing games down to a walk with pointless sideways passing. Awful decision (if he signs).

The defensive recruitment also has to include a experienced goalkeeper, one with some height and presence who specialises in keeping the ball out of the net. The goalkeeping situation has been farcical and should have been sorted out during last Summers recruitment. It's the most important position on the pitch and we have been reliant on blooding young kids for other clubs.

We need a more mobile defender to cover for Gordon and Beckwith.

Exactly 442, baffling to say the least, for whatever reason McNulty doesn't like Ferguson however, as far as I'm concerned he has lots of untapped potential, when he played he didn't put a foot wrong, I can only hope that he finds another club (he will) gets plenty of on pitch minutes and proves McNumpty wrong, again !

Don't understand this decision. Ferguson has been poorly treated and for a relatively young player shows potential. Doesn't send out a positive signal.

He will be another who moves and does well for another club!

I think Ferguson was released to give him a chance elsewhere, if offered him a contract he would have turned it down after last 2 years I wouldn’t blame him, shame as there is good defender in there

Real turn around about the value of Hogan. When EEL was first reintroduced the prevailing view was to slaughter JM about the decision not to play Hogan. Now it’s a terrible decision to keep him. His stock has slumped badly in no time no time at all. Or are some people just fickle.
The team had a good defensive record last year, the stats don’t lie. So keeping the two centre halves that played the most games, together with Gordon and Beckwith is logical to me. We are still one of the smallest and least combative midfield/ inside forward teams around. That needs to change ,tbh I think that two of TA, Burger and McBride need to be moved on. That would give us scope to get some quality in. However it’s a million that Jim will list any of the contracted players.

I think Hogan is better than EEL, but neither of them are good enough if we want to take the next step. Squad members would be OK. We've had some poor central defenders recently and Sassi was probably the worst. If we were dependent on EEL, some fans seem to rate him, then Hogan proved a more than capable replacement during his absence from the team. To the extent that EEL wasn't missed. Hogan was a decent signing. The Southend game spoke volumes in respect of how we deal with high balls into our penalty area, we were diabolical all night and the marking was non existent.

At this level we tend to dominate the ball against most opponents, that in turn acts as a defensive ploy and limits entry's into our penalty area. It's reflected in our defensive record which was good. When we come up against the best teams though and possession is shared our defensive frailties are exposed. How many games did we win against the top six Clubs home and away? By my reckoning it was just one win in thirteen games and that speaks volumes, a shocking statistics really. When it came to the key games we simply weren't good enough and we were also mentally weak , I include the manager in that. He'll try to disguise those statistics by mentioning clout and budgets but it doesn't wash and it points to a lack of belief in the big games. The manager is responsible for that and even mentions reasons to fail before a ball has been kicked. It's not normal for managers to do that.

if we're looking to build a more combative squad and if Ferguson isn't deemed good enough all 3 need to be moved on for me.

It was McNulty to blame for reintroducing EEL when it was obvious that he was a couple of weeks short of being ready to play. Also, it was blindingly obvious (to me at any rate) that Hogan was a decent non league defender when played at the centre of defence. Sadly, our manager often played him as a wide one of three, where imho he was nowhere near as effective. Kingdom was the best defender at the club but is obviously destined for greater things.

Regarding EEL, he is now little more than a standard defender at this level, and like Hogan, has a mistake in him. Neither possess the pace necessary to combat a ball played through or over them.

Neither are good enough to build a promotion winning team around. Both should get us into the playoffs again, which as we have seen are very difficult to navigate through, especially with Jim's baffling decisions mid game. Ferguson can count himself unlucky to have had a Manager who, for whatever reason seems not to like him.

In terms of the contracts offered and the released lists to me its not too bad.

Hogan - no nonsense defender and good cover if played centrally. However, he should not be in the starting 11 if he is played anywhere other than central.

Kelly - hopefully he can push on and make more progress

Mitchell - has potential but on the games I watched as an exile just couldn't be bothered. Good luck to the team who signs him. He has to be one of the most frustrating players I have ever witnessed at Dale

Ferguson - should have been given more opportunity but with the emergence of Beckwith has struggled to get near the team. Good luck to him

Senior - who?

Weston - too similar to East and Gilmour

Kelly - the Benjamin Button of the Dale squad. How is he only 21? Good luck to him

Mann, Bailey and Dunlop - cannot really comment on

up the dale

If i was at Man U, i would pine for the release list.

Scott Mctominay - 1 year at Napoli, i doubt he would swap that for his whole time at OT
Anthony - half a season gone. Same.

Poll: DF in or out
