Resident doctors demand another big pay rise 07:54 - May 29 with 9449 views | AnotherJohn | The resident doctors - the new term for doctors in the training grades - got a pay uplift of about 22% last year and are now demanding a further 29% rise this year. https://au.news.yahoo.com/junior-doctors-seeking-almost-30-073732927.html The forum was divided in its views last year. Some of us worried that such a generous pay deal would trigger a round of catch-up pay demands in the public sector, but I don't think anybody thought the doctors would come back for so much more so quickly. As a reminder, the present scale for the training grades in England runs from £36,616 to £70,425. Salaries for consultants, specialty and specialist doctors (SAS) and GPs go much higher. Thoughts?

I don't say he earns too much at 29 but what about at 59 is more the question. Funny enough when I moved here about a quarter of a century ago, it was between me and a Doctor to buy my house then, I had sold so wasn't in a chain, if I recall he/she was.

Wait until he's 59, asked how much he's earned then divide it by the lives he's saved. Then ask those people if they think he earns too much.

Labour just like the Conservatives take from the poor and give to the rich.

Well said. Only when you need them do you realise what they do. If we strive to have the best in the world we have to pay. I hope you are well soon, take care.

Nurses, porters and the like deserve more, doctors at the start of their career could have more but possibly have not so much at the end, i seen it suggested today to give them more cash and pay for it by taking it from their pension. The way to fund the NHS to the max is to take from big businesses and the rich and not from the poor, apparently we have more food banks than McDonald's. Hope you get well soon. Just reading through the thread and I got to here and suddenly...WTF? Natural selection is Nazi ideology? I've read some bizarre things on here but now apparently Darwin is a Nazi. The nazi's didnt believe in Darwinism, they believed the Aryan race was superior and meant to be masters of the world, In fact they thought it was their obligation to mrule over the lesser beings. Where do you stop? £200 billion…and climbing… isn’t enough. If you give the NHS £500 billion it won’t be enough. Personally id halve it at least and let the overpaid management work for a living like the rest of us and stop wasting our money. The NHS was founded to treat the sick not to wear poxy trans whatever lanyards…not to have diversity or integration courses etc etc . It was founded to help and treat us… the tax paying public to help in our greatest needs. Bevan would turn in his grave if he’d seen what has happened to his ideal…. and the hypocritic wretches that are playing with you and your families life for 12 pieces of silver.

As everyone knows the more you tax the rich the less total tax you raise. They just leave the country and pay no tax at all. 1000s of non doms have ready left the country. The socialist have never understood that having a bigger share of a smaller cake does not make anyone better off. The economy needs to grow, and we need to attract the wealthy to live in the UK.

Love it. Home now, recuperation and learning to walk again with a zimmer frame. It's left me with a sore knee and a painfull calf. Getting stronger day by day. 5weeks of anti biotics. Sepsis hit me for 6. Thanks for your best wishes

Resident doctors demand another big pay rise on 16:54 - Jul 15 with 262 views | felixstowe_jack | Junior Doctors are on £37000 to £71000 for a basic 40 hour week. They get more for working nights and weekends as well as overtime payments. Their employers , the tax payers, also pay a pension contribution of 24%. This compares with 3 to 6% in the private sector. When you factor this in thy are getting the equivalent of £46,000 to £98,000 s year for a basic 40 hour week. Yet their Union wants an extra 25%. The British Millitant Association is a disgrace putting the lives of patients at risk. This is despite a record number of new doctors in the last 5 years.

Puts it into perspective if the figures you quote are correct. I’ve no time for them or any other strikers in the NHS who have obviously forgotten why they signed up for it. To think this list signed the Hippocratic Oath to save lives. Better off signing Hypocritic Oath because that’s what they are.

A "junior doctor" you refer to on £71k a year is on grade st 6. That role is referred to as a speciality registrar. Worth every penny of £71k a year.

Exactly. You can't just put figures out there without describing the pay scale and the roles that are involved in those pay grades.

How much would you say is reasonable for someone who had accrued £125,000 in debt through university and has undertaken around 12 years of training to get to grade 6?
