A slight diffrence in playing 8 games to win a cup or winning the 2nd division than there is to playing 42 games using 18 players in the 1st division so for me the 75/76 team is our best ever. Venables 1982/83 team I would say was better than the two you mention. We all have different opinions but mines right! (joking)

Yeah I thought about the 82/83 team and they did win the Div 2 championship. So they're also better than the 75/76 team.

Heartbreaking is an understatement I would say that many fans of my generation (I was 11 in '76) are still traumatised by it to this day, especially as one of their goals was blatantly offside, even by 70's standards.. A definite sliding doors moment for the club as a whole, that day..

OMG, that takes me back, think I only missed 1 or 2 home games all season, definitely Liverpool as I was on holiday with mum and dad! The crush in the Loft against Leeds was so something behold, when Bowles scored I must have gone 10 yards down the terracing without my feet touching the ground carried forward by the crowd! Only Oldham has ever come close!

Reading Francis Peacock's great book about 75/76 in hindsight that seemed like a silly decision since we lost that match, may well have cost us the title.

Wasn’t it because we both lost in the 3rd round and 4th round Saturday therefore vacant? Incredible decision as two London clubs against each other towards the end of the season invariably meant ‘favours’ handed out if one had little to play for unless you had a traditional rivalry.
50 years .... on 16:02 - Jun 12 with 952 views | 7374Ranger | I was young boy then, but it still hurts. Yes, Phil Boyer was offside ,but they could even have had a player sent off for punching Bowlez earlier in the game. https://www.qpr.co.uk/news/2025/june/12/planning-for-75-76-anniversary-celebrati What about celebrating that side by having that seasons away kit as one this season. I bet they haven't done that. I think that was our best ever side closely followed by the 82/83 & 83/84 teams (mostly if jot all, the same players). [Post edited 12 Jun 16:04]

Yes. I was also in the loft when Bowles scored against Leeds. So, I saw him score? Well, not exactly. I saw him approaching the goal and it seemed likely that he would score, but when he got closer, I could no longer see him, because of the crowd. What a moment, though. That was the last game and in the lengthy run-in in 1976, we had to win every week to keep up with Liverpool. I was not at Norwich, but that defeat really hurt. So did Liverpool's late goals at Wolves - deeply.

Some stat bod can correct me if I'm wrong, but we would still have needed to win the game, I think, by four clear goals to pip Liverpool on GA.

50 years .... on 17:14 - Jun 12 with 828 views | slmrstid | In his autobiography Stan said he felt the away draws against Sheffield United / Burnley and some others who finished low down earlier in the season were what ultimately cost us rather than the defeat to Norwich.

Could have won and played for a draw at Norwich though
50 years .... on 17:19 - Jun 12 with 816 views | DWQPR | Went to Norwich which was a week before my tenth birthday, along with my parents, brother and a friend. Remember the amount of QPR cars heading up the A11, scarves out the window. Stood on the open Carrow Road end halfway up the terrace and pretty much behind the goal. Last home game of the season for Norwich and they were presenting Martin Peters as their player of the season. Went behind quite early but when Dave Thomas equalised before half time we felt that we would go into win. Didn’t bank on their full back hitting a worldy or Phil Boyer being allowed to head in when miles offside. We pulled one back with a few minutes to go but it was too late. Can still remember some Norwich supporter shouting out the scoring from Anfield where Liverpool stuffed Stoke 5-2. Since then I have hated Norwich with a passion. Almost as much as North Battersea. We beat Arsenal on the Easter Monday, I was right at the front of the school end terrace and Gerry Francis held his nerve to score a last minute penalty to win the game. And then onto Leeds, last game of the season. Again I was in the School End perched on the concrete base of the floodlight on the corner of the School End and the SAR. Always remember Phil Parkes being presented with the POTY award and the whole of the Loft being a sea of blue and white scarves and banners. The atmosphere was electric and at full time a mass pitch invasion and eventually the team coming up to the directors box to take their bow. What a team and what a season. Total football QPR style. Seven England internationals including the England captain, one Irish and two Scots and dear old David Webb who scored some very important goal during the campaign. That season was the season that we first started singing ‘The Greatest football team the World has ever seen’, and for that one memorable season, we were very much that. Phil, Dave (RIP), Ian, Johnny (RIP), Frank, Dave, Dave, Gerry, Don, Stanley (RIP), Don and Mick (RIP), thanks for the memories that have lasted my lifetime.
