Swansea City : A tale of two Olivers plus O’Brien - latest news on 00:22 - Jun 30 with 1941 views | swansjack84 | Great post and really insightful as usual. Personally, and granted every team in the country and beyond would want this scenario, I would love to find a gem ala a Michu, Bony a Piro on far less wage. Yes that's one in a million. My only fear with McBurnie is, will he be the player we have seen in the past or a slight shadown of himself? At 29 and with his stats in theory he should on form. I would love to see Vipnotik step up, but I fear he will be a bench warmer this year. Realistically Yates goes and logically, a proven championship scorer and a favorite amongst the fans and a player who also love the club, having McBurnie back makes perfect sense. I think I have just debated and won over myself in one conversation 🤣
Swansea City : A tale of two Olivers plus O’Brien - latest news on 08:12 - Jun 30 with 1828 views | EagleEye | For McBurnie to thrive (or Vipotnik or Yates or Cullen) we need players capable of creating more opportunities for them. For creative players to thrive we need a solid midfield base. Both Allen & O’Brien need to be effectively replaced as a priority. Maybe McBurnie could be the answer but it’s all all a bit underwhelming if he is the marquee signing target for me. Lots more work to be done.

Widell is one of the replacements for Allen and O'Brien. Just the one to find really. We have Franco, Eom and Ronald as well as the incoming Widell. I don't see it as a priority, but if the right player does come along, i.e. better than those listed, then great.

We definitely need an experienced defensive midfielder as franco and widdel are still young, inexperienced and more of an attacking midfielder, eom is a no10 and ronald a winger.

In fairness Sheehan uses him, check how many times he played him on our decent run.

And he played well. I tend to think that the primary reason we're looking to move him on is salary and the fact that we could probably sign two players for the same price. Sheehan clearly thinks he can play otherwise he wouldn't have been one of his go-to guys during our strong run in.

Thats because there was no one else. The games I've seen him play he looks like a headless chicken. The reason they want rid is not just his wages its also because he won't be able to be capable to with how sheehan wants to play next season, no matter how well people think he did in the last few games of last season.

His salary is shocking. 60k a month. What that works out per game would be even more shocking.

Swansea City : A tale of two Olivers plus O’Brien - latest news (n/t) on 20:13 - Jun 30 with 1110 views | swansjack84 | Fair play to Fulton, he must be laughing all the way to the bank. If I was him I wouldn't be in no rush to move on and would see my contract out. Personally I think time is up for him. He brings very little to the squad on match day. 1 man of the match performance in years does not validate his worth. Sadly I fear he will will be with us this season. [Post edited 30 Jun 20:17]

I wouldn’t say headless chicken, he’s been good for us, but we look like we’re trying to go up a gear now and Fulton and Ollie Cooper are two obvious casualties of that. I agree about how often he played. We had four central midfielders, played three in midfield and Allen couldn’t last a full game or play twice in a few days. I don’t think he’ll play much of he stays.

Who made that decision to pay him 60k a month - they must of been in the sun too long. Realistically, who is going to take Fulton on that type of money? I can't see him leaving unless a loan is an option with possible payoff if that how it works? [Post edited 30 Jun 22:03]

Won’t always be just about weekly wage. He’s got a year left. A three year contract, particularly somewhere he’s likely to be playing every week, may well be tempting.

If we were to pay a fee for someone to replace Fulton would it work out any cheaper. Providing they were an improvement I wouldn't mind, but to move on for the wages is possibly not cost efficient. But in Montague we trust.

Like all of us we have 0 clue what Fulton preference is, but unless it's another championship club, is he really going to take a pay cut? I don't know why, but my gut tells me he is happy to sit it out. He has been happy enough for years with us being a back up option. Why change that now with 1 year left and money in the pocket.

I’m not sure. He may well want to sit it out and go on a free in a year. If he does, he’ll still be useful as a squad player. I wouldn’t rule out a move for a longer contract and guaranteed football though. It’s academic until we can strengthen central midfield anyway. Widdell in for O’Brien and we’re down Allen. We haven’t got the numbers to let him go at the moment

Though it's not as easy as this I would be doing everything possible to get him off the books. If he contributed on the pitch fair enough. But in my opinion he doesn't. He might be a good senior player in the background who knows? 60k a month though. That's another level nuts. Maybe we have to grit our teeth and see it out but I would rather get rid and find alternatives. Why the club was and have left itself in this position is questionable. Obviously because of bad decisions by predecessors. All I see in Fulton is a player who loves a good back pass, slows the game down and is the last of those players we need to move on from. You watch he will be pulling up trees on pre season and I'll be eating my own words. [Post edited 30 Jun 22:04]

I spent quite alot of minutes actually watching him when he was on the pitch and believe me he was a headless chicken, was nowhere near the ball, when it was in midfield, he got in others players way, when he did get the ball he passed it to the nearest player, which was usually about 3 yards away Yes he did get a tad better when sherhan took over but not much better, ateotd if we are to progress, we need to get rid of fulton, he will not fit in with sheehans and o'deas plans, plus his wages are extortionate for a player of his calibre, we could get 2 decent championship players for what he is on. Ps I await downarrowing for this post.

For me that's a good assessment of him. Getting in players way is a good shout. He does do that alot. No doubt he will being aggression but he won't be able to bring the energy that we are looking for. Fulton loves to slow play down.

I think we have Julian Winter to thank for that bit if business. That man was way out of his depth...a very poor mans Trevor Birch. But Im amazed Kaplan and Levian sanctioned it.....or was that what made them be more controlling

It’s 15k a week, which Steve Cooper pushed for. He rated Jay so much we even had gossip that he was taking him to Forest. Then Cooper saw what he had at Forest even at the foot of the league and that was the end of that. That contract took a significant amount of money out of that Januarys transfer budget. Five months later Cooper was gone. And yes, he was pushed.

Pushed because he wanted out? Didn't he have an interview with Crystal Palace before the Brentford playoff final? https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-cooper-had-had-two-crystal-palace-int
