Ziyad Larkeche contract extension 16:17 - Jun 30 with 12015 viewssdm1508

This has just been announced. Going to be given a proper run out after what was apparently a good loan at Dundee or back up to someone else?

My guess is the club will wait now and let the Eze business play out. See who if anyone comes in for Kelman and then we will know our budget.

Left back, centre mid and a striker. But I see the logic in waiting to see what exactly the budget really is before we go and blow our beans with a budget not yet boosted by Eze money. We’ve got until September for that to play out.

Also with the reports that JS likes to play a different way at home to away from home I wonder if we will play a 3-5-2 with wing backs away from home. With Vale as left wing back. Then home games play a back four

Last week you were telling me Kelman was going to move the needle on our attack this season and I was a fool for ignoring the impact of his return.

I do believe that Kelman is an upgrade on Alfie Lloyd and the performances Celar put in pre Cardiff. My opinion there remains the same

But as a striker who scored as much as he did. If a bigger club wants to take a punt on him and give us cash then of course the club has a price for him where they accept that

But the bigger focus is the Eze money. I agree with those making the point. Our left back options look light if we are going to have that for the season, but if you look at those being our options up until end of August at most then that’s okay by me. Let’s wait and see if Eze money comes in and then we can look at a higher tier on our shopping list. As I agree the left back spot is especially important in the new managers system

Would be silly to spend a few hundred grand now if Eze is later sold and we could have spent a few million instead

I just cannot see them going out and spending a few million on a left back even with the Eze money. Loan a more experienced player in and develop what we have would be more in line with the current approach.

Strikers do seem to be somewhat different though, harder to loan in and much harder to find and develop.

I have not seen Larkeche much since he has been here but what I have seen suggests that Championship football may be too much for him.....anyone remember he debut for us a season or so ago??

Yeah I wouldn’t play him right back again that’s for sure!

Well it's on him to step up, we have plenty of time to assess and act before any windows close so no need to play all our cards just yet. Players become available who might not otherwise be / PL loan options become clearer as they finalise squads + potential budget injection etc. can all change the picture.

Things change fast, as we've seen within 3 weeks sentiment can go from meltdown to slight optimism (then probably back again).

It wasn't just that he was played at RB (with only a left foot basically) but he did some really bad stuff that day which was so so poor that a 15 year old apprentice professional (that's what they used to be called!!) would not have done.

He needs to get a lot better, rather shocked he has been given a new contract of the length that has been mentioned, if that is factual.

I think you’re being a bit harsh. It’s your first full game for the club, you’re played on the wrong side of defence, you make mistake early, you genuinely feeling uncomfortable, you’re a young lad….it descends from there. Confidence is huge. When it goes in a game, it goes!

he was truelly awful that day and genuinly felt sorry for him but to be honest hes not that much better on the left either , decent going forward but poor overall defensive ability , lack of awareness to attackers, hopefully better this year playing league one football in scotland has helped him but even with a year left on his deal , why sing him up for the aleged four year deals hes now signed ? dont think many clubs have been hammering on the door wanting him or will even if he has a decent start at left back .

Seems odd to go so early and hard on a four year contract. Those inside the club clearly have belief in his potential, but we cannot rely on Larkeche alone covering that LB spot all season.

For all the positivity of the last few weeks, the squad still appears to lack balance and a coherent playing style has yet to be revealed. I suspect we will see a multitude of set ups during pre-season with a mix of formations and player positions, before the manager settles on his preferred formation and personnel.

I agree on the new 4 year deal. Is that confirmed?
But how do you know he’s bad on the left? He’s had 3 league starts for us, right back and wing for 2 of them.

I'm starting to wonder if the squad is being setup to play two distinct formations: 442 & 352.
You'd expect Larkeche and Adamson to be more suitable for wing back roles.

Poll: How is Nourry cooking so far ? 🤣

You were adamant we would be willing a back 3 the other day.

And if the squad is being set up to play 442 or 352, what does that mean for Nourry’s Game Model? Does that mean the game model was wrong last season? Are we going to change the game model across the club? Will be instead ditch the game model concept entirely, when Nourry was so public about the need to have one? What does that mean for last summer’s recruitment (and money invested in salaries) for players to suit a 433 game model?

As I’ve said, I am quite excited see how a two up top works for us. However, a movement away from last season’s game model would be a damning indictment on Nourry, would it not? It would certainly indicate he got it wrong last season.

He provided an assist for a late winner soon after if I remember rightly so swings and roundabouts.

Don't think it will ever be 4-4-2 as we are struggling to get one decent striker on the pitch never mind two! More likely 4-1-3-1-1

I like the thought of Larkeche as depth option, happy for him to be given the opportunity to impress given the success of his previous loan.

I don't think it'll take long before Esquerdinha is staking his claim for the starting position though. Really impressed every time I watch him in the DS. He's played 12 games for Fluminense, who if you've watched any CWC this summer, are an extremely competent team having just knocked out Inter Milan beating them 2-0. Brazilian teams in general have been impressive.

I do still want a senior left back signed rather than taking the risk. A name I'd be looking at, if it isn't unreasonable, would be Harry Toffolo who has just been released by Forest so available on a free

100% agree he deserves a chance in pre-season, but I can't understand the need to sign him up to a long term deal on the back of a positive season at Dundee, his situation is very different to Kelman. He seems like a good lad, a willing runner, but committing to him long term based on very little seems odd to me, I'll be happy but honestly shocked if 10 games in to the season he's proven to be the left back we need.

Because it's a squad game and the championship is relentless. Not every signing is a guaranteed starter.

I don't understand why Cook has been written off. I know there is a chance his foot injury will do for him, but if not - on past performances, leadership, reliability - he would be the first name on the centre-back team sheet for me.

Cook is underrated and undervalued by some. It staggers me how quick some are to write him off yet the persistently injury-prone JCS walks into their starting 11. Sure, there are question marks over Cook's age and fitness but if I would back anyone to come through it, it's Steve.

I keep seeing everyone saying Vale is a Left Back, but the interview I read last week with him, he talks about himself as an attacking number 10 type, and never mentions full back or defending... I am curious to see this guy play as he is a complete unknown, even his position is shrouded in a Vale...

As for Larkeche, a 2 year contract makes sense, if they see something in him, otherwise he might come back into the squad, be decent and prove himself in the championship and then leave for free - always a point where you have to take a gamble.. and I imagine he is not a big earner

Another one for the LFW glossary. Whilst Vale did feature at LB in his youth, he's ostensibly a forward.

ive raised this before as well , funnily enough nourry tstated that the club had dientified a way of playing from running the figures of the last ten yeras of clubs who hd been promoted, think he forgot to add in that most were getting parachute money to help them buy better players to play tht roll , so has he fired the laptop up again , stuck in a new algorrythim and come up that 442 is the way forward ?

as for him admitting he gets anything wrong , id say we have a long wait to happen .

You forgot Esquerdinha - whose name is literally "little Lefty" - so he is basically the new Roberto Carlos!

That's a nickname; his actual name is João Henrique Mendes da Silva. The nickname is slightly misleading because at 1.83m (6ft) he's not exactly little. I've nothing to base this on but I've got a good feeling about this kid. If he can handle the physicality he could turn out to be a wee gem like Gino.

from the few times ive seen him id say its to early for him to be even close to being a starter , has skills but like a few others time on loan would help him massively

You're probably right but we've seen with the likes of Morgan, Kolli, Lloyd and Bennie that the club isn't afraid to throw young players into the deep end. Perhaps it won't happen this season but ultimately I think his ceiling is higher than Larkeche's.

What games were these because the DS games I've seen I honestly thought he looked a class above. Not small either, I think he will handle the physicality of the championship fine which is one of the biggest problems for the youth players.
