Kolli 10:23 - Jul 1 with 23003 viewsWestbourneR

Seeing a fair few negative assessments of him over this close season (Gallen & Dave Mc + several posters on here) saying he's either not good enough or should go on loan to L1.

I'm totally perplexed by it.

The guy is a rare gem. For me, the reason he's special is his back to goal game. It's something you don't get very often in a young player.

Not only does he have a powerful strike, good feet and composure - he is also strong and relishes the battle and hold up stuff. He's also tall and good in the air.

So yeah - he's not a 10, he's not a winger (not quick enough) - he's a striker. His stats speak for themselves, when he plays, one game in every two he tended to make something happen with an assist or goal.

Stats aside, even just with the naked eye, you can just see he has what it takes. Best youth prospect at this club since Eze IMO.

I don't get why people are down on him. He's just 20 years old and straight out of our youth team!

Ah ok I see, I'd missed that his injuries spanned two seasons and were recurring issues.

And never really paid proper attention to his defensive work - but he looked to press the backline with pace and aggression to me

Tbh the more I listen to Gallen the more I'm glad this club has more qualified people in the room, not just Ollie's old boys. Sorry I know he's a club legend.

So for you is Kolli a 10 or a striker? I personally think his physicality and back to goal game would be wasted at 10.

Btw (not that you or anyone else would've noticed or cared) but I couldn't log into the site for over two years - denying the world my searing insight. But I've just changed web browser and it's all sorted. Makes me feel extra dim. In the meantime have been reading the board and listening to Patreon - still really appreciate the quality content, thank you.

Kevin Gallen seems to hate everyone and everything tbf.

Yeah, one of my childhood heroes but I never seem to hear him say anything positive about the club. Even the way he stuck the knife in on Ollie MkII and Ainsworth was very disappointing.

Family fell out big time with Nourry so it’s not that surprising to see Twitter accounts that are 100% real and in no way shape or form paid for bots, honest guv, giving him stick online.

I think the only ones giving Kolli stick on twitter are the ones with Reform UK plastered all over their profiles to be honest.

Because he's qualified to play for Algeria?

He's a left-sided attacker who comes inside, I think he played a 10 in one game and was invisible, worse than a poor Madsen!

As we have Poku on the right, with Smyth or Dembele who can also play there and Chair on the left, then Kolli is best used as a sub for Chair or to throw on as another attacker if we are chasing the game. Smyth can also play LW, so I think this means we won't be signing Saito as he can cover both flanks.

Kolli stats are decent, coming on as sub may reduce injuries so, we may see him progress better that way for a full Champ season.

We have higher priorities, such as first-team players for the LB, CF, and DMC positions, in that order. As a result, I doubt they will let him go on loan as he's needed for cover, especially as we ran out of forwards last season when they all got injured at the same time. So, the club got burned on that last season.

Lloyd will be the one to go on loan. Probably to Orient.

zzzzzzzzzz

Needs to stay fit this season.

You could say that about half the team mate! My take on him is he has got something about him very special, last time I saw that in a player was Eze . So I'm kinda excited to see how he goes this season.

Don't see how when it's pouring the amount of rain his hair must hold doesn't slow him down or put him off balance.

Didn't he score 2 against Norwich in a named storm, didn't seem to hinder the lad!

I'm not convinced by him.

To my eyes he is a player with lots of good attributes, but doesn't really excel in any of them. I have a horrible feeling there will always be a player who is quicker (Poku), physically stronger (Frey), harder working (Smyth), more creative (Chair).
I just can't seem him being a starter unless we go two up top, in which case he would be a good foil next to Frey.

If a really sexy bid came in I'd let him go (with % sell on of course).

Yeah but if you have 7/10 in all those departments then it can make you an all round striker. Of the four you mentioned only Frey is up front. And I like Frey, v happy we've got him, be has many other extreme deficiencies that Kolli does not.
,
Kolli has a lot more about him than Celar. He's better than Lloyd. Who knows if he's better than Kelman... we'll see.

He's also very young so there is plenty of time for his skills to increase or excel.

Not sure how many goals and assists a 20 year old in his break out season needs to provide for you to be 'convinced' Wilkins - but I think we'll be waiting a very long tome for one to come along.

Re a loan. Yeah ok - do it - but mark my words, by crimbo he'll have scored a hatful and we'll be calling back. For me he's got the xfator and fire to succeed.

Well you can say he's a left sided attacker but he doesn't actually have to be. It's not on his birth certificate.

He's played (and played at his best) up front for us several times.

As I say his back to goal game is good. It's wasted out wide.

It was all my own stupidity anyway.

Besides it's been cathartic to watch other people argue with an AI Christian Nourry.

I agree and the key thing for me is he seems to know where the goal is - he had a couple of smart finishes last season.

I'd keep him and can only hope his fitness records improves (as mentioned could just be a physical growth/development thing given his age).

I don't quite get the antipathy towards him unless it's just because his dad can come across as a bit meddling?

Agree mate , I find it all a bit weird. I watched a interview he did and he comes across as a well mannered, intelligent young man , not one ounce of a big time Charlie attitude.

I'm another who likes Kolli. My worry for him is that he could end up not getting enough football with us this season. He needs to play to progress.

As someone else suggested, a half season loan out at a L1 club would be a great thing for him, and likely for us too as I'm sure he'd return better able to compete for a starting place.

On the loan thing, I agree, but his Dad is publicly denouncing the Algeria manager for not picking him.

I can't see him swallowing a loan to Northampton.

Weirdly that actually makes me feel better. Means all the similar stuff about QPR is more of a personality thing than an anti-QPR thing

Well we've been down this road before haven't we?

Lots of similarities with Willock:

- Pushy Dad
- Questionable fitness
- Contract drama

He can answer all of this with a amazing season. Just needs to stop going in Algerian TV and get his head down.

That’s it for me , I am sure he is lovely young fella but with the above mentioned traits he just seem a bit high maintenance in addition I can’t work out where he plays as a starter , he had no success as a lone forward last season when he miraculously reappeared . If we can bring in a Frey type backup and Celar is fit I would try to loan him out

For me, if we are playing two up front he should be one of them and i'm not ready to write him off after 9 games worth of minutes or whatever it is.

But we should acknowledge his time here might not be smooth.

KG opinion on QPR is on a par with the utter crap that Carragher spouts during games. Really spoiled his legend status for me with the toxicity when it comes to QPR.

The grass is always greener.

A loan isn’t writing him off , it was good enough for Chair , Eze and now Kelman . As 2nd striker in a pair I can see some opportunity though ..
