Seeing a fair few negative assessments of him over this close season (Gallen & Dave Mc + several posters on here) saying he's either not good enough or should go on loan to L1.

I'm totally perplexed by it.

The guy is a rare gem. For me, the reason he's special is his back to goal game. It's something you don't get very often in a young player.

Not only does he have a powerful strike, good feet and composure - he is also strong and relishes the battle and hold up stuff. He's also tall and good in the air.

So yeah - he's not a 10, he's not a winger (not quick enough) - he's a striker. His stats speak for themselves, when he plays, one game in every two he tended to make something happen with an assist or goal.

Stats aside, even just with the naked eye, you can just see he has what it takes. Best youth prospect at this club since Eze IMO.

I don't get why people are down on him. He's just 20 years old and straight out of our youth team!

Well we've been down this road before haven't we?

Lots of similarities with Willock:

- Pushy Dad
- Questionable fitness
- Contract drama

He can answer all of this with a amazing season. Just needs to stop going in Algerian TV and get his head down.

If you can't get a starting place in a team that was struggling in the Championship, then you really don't want your Dad mouthing off on Social Media.
The similarities with Willock are worryingly similar.

Two up top and he has a chance of starting, but if he doesn't then the concern is that it becomes an issue off the pitch.

The jury is out, 100%. I am not sure that he 'wants it enough'. Would not get into my first 11 picks to start a game.

Kolli isn't at the level yet, but I think we have seen enough to know he's got a really good chance to be. He's the best of the youth players to break into the first team the last few years, miles ahead of Lloyd as an example, but he still has some way to go.

The issue is, similar to Armstrong, that there seems to be a lot of noise around him, pushing him into the spotlight... Always linked to other clubs, demands about his play time etc.

Number 1 priority is for him to stay fit and be available, he's been a bit injury prone last few years so needs to work on managing that as best he can. Also whilst I think the best situation for him would be a loan, get 40-50 games in league one/two and see where he is next summer, ultimately I think that he stays, grafts, tells his dad to shut his noise and does his best to work his way into the new managers plans. I think he has a chance this year to be backup to Chair off the left, or depth for a front two, but that requires patience and acceptance from the people around him.

Just a thought. But is it remotely possible this alleged grief you got was because you might have looked ridiculous as opposed to someone who could really carry it off and was envied?

Sorry for not seeing the joke in something that wasn't funny. If it is really is funny then please indulge me and explain. It was a genuine question. Why did you find it pathetic?

Interesting that you cite his back to goal game as his strength OP. I actually think it needs work. He hasn't yet got the guile/physicality to play against the hulking sides like Sheff Utd. They just shove him and you rarely get freekicks for that. It makes it difficult to play him as a lone forward, certainly as a starter.

I think his real talent is his ability like Chair to spot a pass and read the game. He's also a good finisher.

His dad/family should really shut up though. I don't think their constant PR helps at all.

Ah ok I see, I'd missed that his injuries spanned two seasons and were recurring issues.

And never really paid proper attention to his defensive work - but he looked to press the backline with pace and aggression to me

Tbh the more I listen to Gallen the more I'm glad this club has more qualified people in the room, not just Ollie's old boys. Sorry I know he's a club legend.

So for you is Kolli a 10 or a striker? I personally think his physicality and back to goal game would be wasted at 10.

Btw (not that you or anyone else would've noticed or cared) but I couldn't log into the site for over two years - denying the world my searing insight. But I've just changed web browser and it's all sorted. Makes me feel extra dim. In the meantime have been reading the board and listening to Patreon - still really appreciate the quality content, thank you.

Isn't Gallen a scout for Palace so going by their recruitment successes we could probably do with someone like him at the club

As for Kolli I think he could do with a loan

Agree. Anyone at the Bristol City away game could tell you his hold home is nowhere near where it needs to be for him to play 9. He’s not strong enough, doesn’t know where to be, and isn’t good in the air. It’s simply not his game.

I could see him being successful in a Teddy Sherringham role in a front two, as an inverted winger on the left like Chair, or in a traditional 10 role.

His strengths are his touch, close control, passing, crossing, and shooting. He should be feeding the 9 or shooting from the edge of the box.

I agree with Simmo; this is a big year for him. He is not yet ready to start as a first choice, but he has what you need to make it. He just needs to get his head down. He will be fighting with Chair and Vale for that position wide left, potentially fighting with Madsen, Morgan, Chair, and Dembele to play in a 10 role, and fighting with Frey, Celar, and Kelman for a role up top.

That’s a lot of completion. If anything you could argue we are over stacked for a club of our size across the 3 behind the 1 in a 4231.

He should work hard, embrace the competition and see if he can make a spot his own.

Well whether you like it or not, I unfortunately still use that platform and it's facts. Overwhelmingly Kolli is backed by the fanbase so the earlier claim that any fans that like Nourry must now absolutely hate Kolli wasn't true. The bloke was subject to Islamophobic attacks from one particular fan that got a lot of visibility, just hope he's got good supportive people around him because there is a few really horrible people out there, not true R's

"Family fell out big time with Nourry so it’s not that surprising to see Twitter accounts that are 100% real and in no way shape or form paid for bots, honest guv, giving him stick online"

This was a comment earlier in the thread that I have been responding to. Acknowledging that a young player needs to work on their game isn't "giving him stick", that's normal football discourse. I hope that makes sense

Sorry to jump in ^^

He is not tall for a Forward at all. Maybe this is why he has larger hair?
Or maybe he just looks tall compared to most of our midfield?

I like Kolli, but his entourage need to wait until there is something worth promoting. This could be his year to shit or get off the pot

Yeh agree on the hold up stuff Nix. We tried him as the main striker in our system away from home twice last year - Bristol City and Hull - and he got absolutely battered both times. Ball didn't stick at all and we barely crossed the halfway line. Alfie Lloyd then came on at Hull and did a far better job of that for the final half hour and we won the game, and I agree with the poster higher up who says Kolli is ability wise streets ahead of Lloyd.
