OASIS 00:05 - Jul 5 with 14972 views | Lblock | Anyone attend the opening gig this evening and if so your thoughts? Everything I’ve read so far sounds really positive There’ll be plenty of detractors no doubt, but I’m now really really looking forward to seeing them at Wembley Tickets were stupid prices but I’d always expected that would be the case if they ever reunited; hope they keep their mojo for at least another month!!! Set list looks a right old riotous walk down memory lane

OASIS on 22:57 - Aug 3 by stowmarketrange | It was 2 hours spent singing along to the sound of the 90’s.And with the ticket prices so high,I guess it was only genuine Oasis fans that would pay it.And I’ve seen a crowd so enthusiastic about both supporting acts and already primed to spend the time singing and dancing, even in the posh seats. A brilliant night for those who went to the gigs. And most won’t lose any sleep over detractors telling them about how poor the night should be. Lucky they weren’t more popular or I wouldn’t have been able to buy a ticket. |
Yeah I mean… look, I’m obviously not a fan, but I don’t want to be needlessly argumentative or look down on people for liking what they like. At the same time, I do find some of the chat around this tour a bit strange. Seen plenty of comments about it being unique and boundary-breaking, how Oasis are the only band who could achieve something like this, or words to that effect, when plenty of other artists have sold out bigger runs and had equally rapturous receptions in recent years. I think there’s always been a bit of an exceptionalist streak with Britpop in general and Oasis in particular, where it’s seen as “proper” music while other stuff doesn’t really count. It feels like that’s come back to the fore very strongly with this reunion. Obviously people like what they like, but I personally find all the hyperbole a bit odd. Edit: sorry, one more thing! Your mention of Oasis being “the sound of the 90s” I think encapsulates what I’m trying to say with all this. I’m sure that sentiment’s true for lots of people, but the 90s were absolutely stacked with incredible, groundbreaking music of all kinds, from all over the world Reducing it all down to four blokes with guitars riffing (however effectively) on older and more familiar sounds feels quite limiting. I was also referring to Cast and Richard Ashcroft when I stated about the sounds of the 90’s.Each act brought the crowd to a new level of anticipation.
OASIS on 13:59 - Aug 4 with 1678 views | Lblock | Just looked on VileGoGo for tickets in September for the Wembley return Part II Average price if £1.7k so too rich for me even though last night I’d said I’d pay whatever to grab another ticket. Shame and gutted I turned down two tickets at £250 each three weeks ago due to July and August being pricey months for me. We’ll see

So is this how the same old people get tickets? Through these resell sites? I tried and tried and gutted not to get any originally, so is it OK to pay over the odds on these sites? Totally ignorant about such things. Not that I can be paying £1k+ for them anyway....just wondered how wealthier people I know on socials all seem to be there whilst I am sat here speaking drivel on this board.

I'm sure they did! I'm not trying to discredit that in any way, although I do feel like all three of those acts are doing the same sort of thing, really. I just see so many people claiming over and over again that the 90s were all about Oasis and bands like them, and that their reunion has taken on this massive cultural importance, when (aside from them obviously being hugely popular) I honestly don't think that's a particularly accurate or exciting reflection of UK culture either in the 90s or today. When I saw Stone Roses at Wembley, I just walked up there on the day, waited til I found someone selling a ticket. They'd already started paying and some guy was trying to flog a ticket for £80. I told him that it had already started and got a ticket for £40. Somehow doubt that technique will work for oasis though! Am also hoping the tickets will go.down a bit nearer the time. Going to be glued to resell sites. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Basically yeah - people did get lucky and get tickets in the first ballots, I had a presale code as on Oasis mailing list and have been going to Liam & Noels gigs for years but I went again with mates over the weekend and bit the bullet and paid £300 with Viagogo last minute - keep an eye on it and they'll come down nearer the gigs, nobody is paying £1.5k for tickets realistically [Post edited 4 Aug 14:55]

OASIS on 23:41 - Aug 3 by numptydumpty | Was never into Oasis, the music was ok, but personally felt they have always been given a higher billing than their compositions merit.... Plus both Liam and Noel give me Joey Barton vibes !!! Some poor chap, it seems fell from the upper levels at Wembley on Saturday to his death. How dreadful. What a way to go. How the show continued and was not stopped is strange but poor man.... [Post edited 3 Aug 23:42]

I read the guy fell around 22:20 so the show would’ve ended around 5 minutes before. Possibly someone has slipped on their way out and gone over the railing. Either way, tragic news for the family.

OASIS on 12:53 - Aug 4 by SydneyRs | Its much more about the atmosphere and occasion for me than technical brilliance of the performance. Honestly, how often do you see entire stadiums full of people singing every word to every song? Apart from the current Oasis shows, I've probably only observed it during Taylor Swift's last tour. Usually half the stadium looks bored or distracted. These Oasis gigs seem to have an epic atmosphere, like one last chance to belt out these great songs together and they've been careful to choose the best of their back catalogue. Of course they might decide to do it all again, or they might not. Oasis when they started out were a breath of fresh air. Anthemic songs in the midst of a great era for music. Of course they did disappear up their own arses and fame went to their heads. I've often felt the global success of Wonderwall, a good but IMHO overrated song, was in many ways the worst thing to happen to them. Standards slipped and the music they put out became boring and repetitive. The tickets for Sydney are more expensive than those in the UK but I decided to go for it. A work colleague was recently diagnosed with a horrible illness and you know what, do things you like doing if and when you can because there's no guarantees. I get that not everyone is interested and that's fine. There are many other things to be getting on with. The absolute frenzy for tickets shows that plenty of people are up for it, a lot more in fact than currently have access to tickets. I'd go back to my original comment about atmosphere. There is something about being in an incredible atmosphere where everyone is together in joy. It doesn't happen that often in your life, certainly not if you support QPR in any case! |
Totally agree with this. I went last night and whilst I’m not a massive fan I thought it was great. A lot of that is due to the crowd and the overall excitement. Oasis aren’t the best studio or live band by any stretch but that was a fantastic evening. Really really enjoyable and Im very pleased I went. I’ve been to hundreds of gigs over the years, big and small, but that was one of the very best for overall atmosphere. Had a few beers in the Green Man Wembley to warm up and the atmosphere in there was brilliant too. A real sense of anticipation on the air, and everyone just pleased to be there and totally enjoying themselves. So different to the last time I saw them at Finsbury Park in the early 2000’s - terrible venue, awful crowd full of bellends, and the band were dreadful. Gonna try and bag some more tickets for September

OASIS on 16:20 - Jul 8 by CorbyQPR | Got tickets to Wembley on 2/8 off of Viagogo a couple of weeks ago, £200 each. After the first Cardiff date theyve shot back up to over £500 a ticket! Crazy money. Last saw them at MK Bowl in 2005, set list (Below) was awesome. Zutons supported them, were great too. Can't wait to see them again Fin' in the Bushes Turn Up the Sun Lyla Bring It On Down Morning Glory Cigarettes & Alcohol The Importance of Being Idle Little by Little Acquiesce A Bell Will Ring Songbird Live Forever Mucky Fingers Wonderwall Champagne Supernova Rock 'n' Roll Star Encore: Guess God Thinks I'm Abel The Meaning of Soul Don't Look Back in Anger My Generation (The Who cover) |
Well, its difficult to know how to describe the gig on Saturday. I can honestly say its the best I've ever been to. Didn't see Cast, but Richard Ashcroft was outstanding, note perfect & the best support act for Oasis, wasn't really a big Verve 'fan', but ill be listening to them more now I've seen him live. Oasis were just unbelievable, both Noel & Liam's voices sounded superb but the main thing was the atmosphere, never quite known anything like it. If you're a fan & have the chance to go, don't miss it.. Favorites for me - Little by Little & Slide away

Over 1 million people have seen the shows so far and I haven’t seen any bad reviews on fb or anywhere else for that matter. And probably another million wish they could get tickets.I’ve never seen a whole crowd so engaged in a band as the fans were at Wembley the night I went.Everyone stood up and sang their hearts out from the first song to the last. It really was an incredible night, and I wish I could repeat it,but I’ll have make do with the setlist on Spotify.

Well summed up. The singing, the dancing, by everyone for the whole concert was just incredible, and something I won’t forget ever. My main worry was it would attract a lot of the idiots like I’d read about in the 90s, but everybody was there just to have a good time. We actually left during champagne supernova, could hear the song as we walked out and the fireworks as we were walking to the train station. I jumped straight on the 22:21 train back to Princes Risborough. didn’t really want to leave halfway through the last song but thought it would be best to get away.

OASIS on 11:42 - Aug 7 by FDC | Prior to 'Britpop' the sound of the 90s was arguably dominated by the urban Bristol scene - Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky etc. The Britpop stuff always felt like an effort to reclaim British music as being about white boys with guitars to me. |
I'll bite: 1/ The first Portishead album came out one week before the first Oasis album; the first Tricky album came out five months after Oasis's debut; Massive had released one album before Oasis. So, "the Bristol scene" was not really dominating anything prior to Britpop. In fact, it would be fine to claim it as part of Britpop, i.e. a renaissance in British music in the 1990s. 2/ You could like lots of things at once, Massive, Oasis, Chemical Brothers, US rap, Goldie. Most people did and do. Some people made music with guitars, others didn't. It's just an instrument. Nobody was trying reclaim anything. There were white faces in Massive/Portishead too. 3/ Ultimately, it's just market forces. If you put a gig on today at Wembley Stadium with Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky it would not remotely sell out. Oasis can sell out Wembley for a fortnight (and longer possibly). More people connect simply still with the music and experience. It's not a conspiracy. [Post edited 7 Aug 12:11]
