OASIS 00:05 - Jul 5 with 15340 viewsLblock

Anyone attend the opening gig this evening and if so your thoughts?

Everything I’ve read so far sounds really positive

There’ll be plenty of detractors no doubt, but I’m now really really looking forward to seeing them at Wembley
Tickets were stupid prices but I’d always expected that would be the case if they ever reunited; hope they keep their mojo for at least another month!!!

Set list looks a right old riotous walk down memory lane

Got tickets to Wembley on 2/8 off of Viagogo a couple of weeks ago, £200 each. After the first Cardiff date theyve shot back up to over £500 a ticket! Crazy money.

Last saw them at MK Bowl in 2005, set list (Below) was awesome. Zutons supported them, were great too.

Can't wait to see them again

Fin' in the Bushes
Turn Up the Sun
Lyla
Bring It On Down
Morning Glory
Cigarettes & Alcohol
The Importance of Being Idle
Little by Little
Acquiesce
A Bell Will Ring
Songbird
Live Forever
Mucky Fingers
Wonderwall
Champagne Supernova
Rock 'n' Roll Star

Encore:
Guess God Thinks I'm Abel
The Meaning of Soul
Don't Look Back in Anger
My Generation
(The Who cover)

That was the only time I saw them too. Absolutely amazing gig. I remember seeing the coral, but have zero recollection of seeing the zutons.

All the stewards at Wembley wearing man city ish blue shirts.

Noel also getting a bit defensive about his team of late.

Not trying to hi jack this thread or the Sex Pistols one but I saw Hozier and his stunning band on Friday night and it was incredible .
I only know 7 or 8 songs out of his 22 song set but the sound, lighting, video production and most important his voice and interaction with an adoring crowd made it one of those nights that I wont forget for a long time.
Not sure if he hit Europe before America but if he comes back over to England/ Ireland try for tickets it was one of the top concerts ever for me

Went first night at Wembley and to say it was excellent would be an understatement , Ashcroft was stupendously good , I’m lucky to have seen a lot of gigs over the years in the Uk, Europe , and us and I honestly don’t think I’ll see better again , cast were excellent Ashcroft took it up two levels and oasis blew the bloody roof off , they gave come back better than they was which is no mean feet after all these years . Found some standing Tkts for next Sunday earlier think I’ll be going for round two ,

I was there on Friday night. Very fortunate. Came off the subs bench and was handed a gold pass so very special and unexpected. Richard Ashcroft was great and the brothers and their band were just exceptional. Really belted every number out. Very impressed with their voices throughout. No fillers at all. Just every song and a solid unrelenting 2 hours set. As I say, very fortunate because I couldn't afford a basic ticket, let alone a gold pass one. Very grateful.

Never knowingly right.

Went last night, not a huge fan but I must say we were all blown away. 2 hours of tunes, it sounded great even though we were back row top tier above the corner flag etc
Liam just got on with it, not much talk, just belting out songs, great entertainment.
The 4k screens were great too

I first saw Oasis in '94 I'd read of an on stage punch-up in Newcastle a few days earlier so I talked all my mates into going to this one in Windsor.

I've got to say they are a bit like the Roy Keane of music.

No frills, just go on stage and do their job.
Good music and that, but I didn't get it then and I don't now.

Not even close to being the best live band I've seen

Each to their own and all that. All I know is that every night at every venue has been a sell out,and social media is full of people who went and had a fantastic time, with not 1 person complaining about their night.

Great to hear everyone has had a brilliant experience. I went to Hammersmith in 94 with a few mates, all of whom liked the album and the Live Forever video. Sound was great, but we were all let down by the non-stage presence compared to all the other bands we’d seen.

A few years later at Glastonbury, a mate of mine was a huge fan and convinced me to go down the front. I left after 2 songs and went to see The Prodigy, who were brilliant. Sounds very much like they’ve improved - which I’m glad for the people who’ve seen them on this tour, but from personal experience, they’ve always been boring live

Went the first night at Wembley. Going again for the last one in September. Absolutely incredible. The energy was off the scale. There literally isn’t any band from the last 30 years that could do that level of gig. Everyone knows the words. Just 90,000 very happy people with thousands more desperately trying to get a ticket. I’m glad I was there at the height of Oasis. Have seen them many times. Literally no other band comes even close. Feel sorry for the current youngsters who have to grow up on stuff like Ed Sheeran, One Direction etc. I’m hoping the tour might continue next year around Europe. If you can get a ticket you simply have to go.

Surprised, given how varied the debate is on here across so many topics, to not see a single dissenting opinion on Oasis!

Don’t want to take away from anyone’s enjoyment, but I find the whole thing pretty puzzling. Loads of people paying hundreds if not thousands of pounds to watch a band whose last decent record was 30 years ago, whose best songs all sound like they were made 30 years before that, and who - with the best will in the world - haven’t always been the most reliable live act.

Been interesting to watch the videos of their performances though, and see how they’re basically just massive singalongs. Feels like most people are there to connect with their own nostalgia, rather than necessarily watch the band. Which is all good, obviously, just interesting.

It was 2 hours spent singing along to the sound of the 90’s.And with the ticket prices so high,I guess it was only genuine Oasis fans that would pay it.And I’ve seen a crowd so enthusiastic about both supporting acts and already primed to spend the time singing and dancing, even in the posh seats.
A brilliant night for those who went to the gigs. And most won’t lose any sleep over detractors telling them about how poor the night should be.
Lucky they weren’t more popular or I wouldn’t have been able to buy a ticket.

Its definitely a nostalgia thing, but their songs were great, really really good. Pop music basically . I always thought that my dads generation was miles away from mine but actually my dad and myself were from the same era. Im not sure i can say the same about me and my son. There seemed to be a massive shift when the internet came along.
Enjoy the moment because music and pop culture will never be the same again.

Was never into Oasis, the music was ok, but personally felt they have always been given a higher billing than their compositions merit....

Plus both Liam and Noel give me Joey Barton vibes !!!

Some poor chap, it seems fell from the upper levels at Wembley on Saturday to his death. How dreadful. What a way to go. How the show continued and was not stopped is strange but poor man....

Just back from Wembley

Let’s have this right
If you weren’t a fan then fair enough; but; if you were/are, and went to recent gigs and it was anything like what I experienced tonight, then your mind must well and truly be blown.

Amazing.

The sound was immense. Big screens and production was quality. Liam was the best I think I’ve seen him and held 80k+ people in his hand.
Yep….. I’ve spent a fcuk of a lot but if you offered me that at twice the cost to do it again tomorrow I’d say stick me down for four tickets.

Huge rumours of an extended tour next year finishing with four nights at Knebworth
Bring it on.

You're dead right about Liam's voice, I doubted when the reunion was announced that his vocals would be up to it, but in many ways, his performance was absolutely the best thing about the show.

The production was top drawer, the setlist was indeed "banger after banger after banger", with songs you wouldn't necessarily expect stealing the show for me, "Little by Little" and "Slide Away". "Rock n Roll Star" was insanely good.

Never saw them live first time around, and always regretted it, so I wasn't missing out this time. As everyone else has said, worth ecvery penny.

I had tickets for Edinburgh at the weekend but life got in the way of travelling for that so I sold them online a few weeks back.

Just bought tickets for Sydney in November. Not usually a fan of stadium gigs (seeing Oasis in 2003 in a small 2-3k capacity venue here is one of the best gigs I've ever been to) but the atmosphere at the UK shows looks fantastic.

I was in the sweet spot age wise for the late 80s/early 90s music explosion with britpop, Stone Roses, Nirvana etc. It was an incredible time, so please excuse those of us that might want to revisit it.

My son plays in his own band now and they all listen to the same bands we did back then, says a lot about the time. My brother's son is obsessed with The Smiths, Oasis etc too.

Thats like the "John Lewis" effect I reckon.
If you read some of the reviews for stuff on their website people are happy to pay more money and think they have got a better product.

I reckon if you've just done a few hundred quid to watch a gig you are going to subliminally think that it was one of the better gigs.

Don't get me wrong I don't mind Oasis, just don't think that they are the ultimate live band that everyone thinks they are.
To go back to the Roy Keane analogy, there is nothing to complain about, they have just done their job, workman-like

For example, The Verve were a better live band imho

In fairness, we paid £70 I think. Booked the tickets last August, I chose the Wednesday gig as I thought it would be easier to get tickets for, turns out it was.

Its much more about the atmosphere and occasion for me than technical brilliance of the performance. Honestly, how often do you see entire stadiums full of people singing every word to every song? Apart from the current Oasis shows, I've probably only observed it during Taylor Swift's last tour. Usually half the stadium looks bored or distracted.

These Oasis gigs seem to have an epic atmosphere, like one last chance to belt out these great songs together and they've been careful to choose the best of their back catalogue. Of course they might decide to do it all again, or they might not.

Oasis when they started out were a breath of fresh air. Anthemic songs in the midst of a great era for music. Of course they did disappear up their own arses and fame went to their heads. I've often felt the global success of Wonderwall, a good but IMHO overrated song, was in many ways the worst thing to happen to them. Standards slipped and the music they put out became boring and repetitive.

The tickets for Sydney are more expensive than those in the UK but I decided to go for it. A work colleague was recently diagnosed with a horrible illness and you know what, do things you like doing if and when you can because there's no guarantees.

I get that not everyone is interested and that's fine. There are many other things to be getting on with. The absolute frenzy for tickets shows that plenty of people are up for it, a lot more in fact than currently have access to tickets.

I'd go back to my original comment about atmosphere. There is something about being in an incredible atmosphere where everyone is together in joy. It doesn't happen that often in your life, certainly not if you support QPR in any case!
