I think it is more of a postive outlook on the coaching aspect bringing the experience of Taylor and Done as ex players into the club..
Also perhaps gibbons who moved on had a bit more influence on first team matters and now he has left McNulty got his chance to step up the coaching with these two.

As a player I was more of a fan of Done than many on here, but have no idea about his coaching capabilities. Taylor started as a player-coach four years ago and Done has been a coach since leaving Dale in 2022.
McNulty has plenty of managerial experience too over the last two years when you think what’s gone on.
Should be interesting as all 4 areas of the team are covered by the coaches, Lille’s (gk) McNulty (defence) Taylor midfield and Done (forwards) so they can work on their areas, if it works like that so perhaps improvements next season

I don’t know about the coaching setups of all the other teams but we’ve certainly got a more experience than we did last season in numbers alone.

I think it strengthens McNultys position and strengthens the club. Trusted people around him who will be able to give honest advice whether good or bad. This tells me that the manager has analysed last season and also realised he needs a bit of help, he will be a better manager for this. Contrary to what some suggest i don't think Gibbons will be missed.

I do hope so. Positive moves on player signings (GK excepted) and new backroom staff indicate progression. We have to remember how slow to change, negative, boring, and on crucial occasions, downright wrong McNulty's management was last season. Failures never acknowledged. The "clout" and "respect the point" nonsense has not been forgotten. Horror shows that drove fans away. It is whether he can change to be more in line with some of the excellent attacking performances we saw that will be crucial to Dale's fortunes as the new season becomes reality. He's got a superb amount of support from the club. I hope that makes him change his outlook and actions for the betterment of RAFC and himself. 16 games of tippy tappy tripe and a lower half of the table position won't do, whatever the xG says.

I like that we are building a mgmt/coaching team that understands and has close connections to the club and within that, players who have previously had success here (and elsewhere) and who have played for the club in L1, meaning they are aware of the club's history and what the club is capable of achieving.

Yes agree with that, being subservient to the perceived better teams in the league needs looking at also. The results against the top six teams were diabolical over the season and not just a fluke, there was a major failing there. I've no doubt McNulty is good on the training ground and he can communicate well to the point that the players love him but is he skilled in instilling a winning mindset and a belief into the players when it comes to pressure games? Keep talking about clout, budgets, respecting the point, fate etc indicates that he isn't.. he's giving not only the players but himself reasons to fail and one win in fourteen big games last season is evidence of that. ( results against top six teams, Southend play off game, Spennymoor). Done and Taylor both know that it's all gobbledygook, they specialised in having no fear and relished going toe to toe with the so called bigger boys, often beating them home or away. That's what was missing last year, there seemed to be a fear factor and the manager fuelled it by constantly talking up the opposition or meekly accepting why we failed to even compete in some home games. It was all too nice and we were a soft touch, easily bullied out of games. So Done and Taylor now need to challenge the players and instill the winning mentality because they were mentally fragile last season and so was the manager, too negative.

Although SC sales seem to be holding up reasonably well, many others will be "waiting and seeing" and with good reason
Signings, on the pitch and additions off the pitch look good but the debacles witnessed at the sharp end of last season are too fresh in the memory, and i'm afraid any attempts to cajole otherwise will rightly fall on deaf ears, deafened by the sound of opposition fans celebrating in the Willbutts
Everyone will make their own minds up and if the team start to perform more consistently, and fans who didn't buy a SC buy tickets for most matches, it'll be more money coming into the club. Let's stop the cajoling, it's unnecessary
Really happy to see Doney back. Loved his personality and the way his values came across both on and off pitch. Same for Lillis and Taylor.
Can't remember many other times when the coaching team, owners and players have all seemed so aligned to the values I associate with being Rochdale and this football club. Just hope we can find an edge of ruthless intensity this coming season, especially during the grind of the winter months when we often seem to go missing. Not sure it's going to happen but would love to see a further experienced signing perhaps in the middle of the park that screams leadership who'll drive high standards throughout the team. Either way I'm feeling positive we're in for a season of progression vs the last.

I get the idea of bringing in people who he knows and trusts, but there is a danger that they have all similar experience and expectations about what is possible. I would have preferred a wild card among them, someone with a totally different perspective, even perhaps from a different sport. There is a distinct risk that this new coaching team only knows what they know and are generally in agreement, but where is the challenge to their views? Do they know what they don't know?
There are instances of football clubs investing in different views, think Brailsford moving from Cycling to Man U....
I recall many years ago ( Dave sutton era I think)that we brought in the sprint coach from Salford Harriers for pre-season sessions.. apparently his training was so hard it almost caused a strike....perhaps not the best example but you do wonder if a Ballet teacher could prevent some of hamstring / tendon injuries with some new stretches and warm-up routines?
Jim is keen on his small, incremental improvements, perhaps the training ground would have been a good place to start.... -
