Aside from those of you who will undoubtedly reply, he's no good
is there any reason we are not looking to have Saito back??

I thought he posed a threat

Separately is it me or does it already seem that Dembele is going to be in sick bay for a lot of the season?

I wouldn't worry too much, Brooks. It's pretty obvious Saito won't be returning.

In that case I shall temper my indignation, while weeping silently into my tonkotsu udon

I appreciate we reached 'the end' on this thread a few posts back, but worth resurrecting as I mentioned on the rumours thread, because the bid has been accepted and it seems like we'll have him back!

If it's the right deal then I am delighted, if it's anything north of £1.5 million then that's a silly signing.

We already seem to have a few fast short players in the squad now.
And the ones we have didn't cost £7m
I'd rather see the club bring in a player for an area we are short in.

So, that should be at least one LB and a CM who can play a ball forwards (not Hayden)

Rhys Norrington-Davies is imminent, so that is the LB. I'd love a centre mid now though, a big bastard who can also run with the ball and pick a pass. Is that too much to ask?

Rhys Norrington-Davies? He's not played many games for a 26 year old. I've heard his name but I don't know how he plays, is he any good? Why so few games?

Yeah, someone the size of Madsen, with the vision of Madsen, but the workrate and heart of Jamie Mackie.

Still, he'd be worth more than Saito, and be in great demand

Most chat suggests he's shit and massively injury prone, but also just a loan, which is a relief.

I think the key is being able to get games into Esq, without adding the pressure of him being the only option we have

As for Saito, I'm a little less enthused about him than some. Absolutely love him off the pitch and lots of really positive traits on it, but it's not a priority position and the reported fee is miles over someone that managed 3 goals last year...

Overall I'd be really happy to see him back, but not convinced he's the best use of resources.

Yep, I am sold. I don't care about the rest of his talents.

Given the choice, Smyth or Saito? It's close but Saito edges it for me.

Hopefully he won't fall down quite as often. Smyth is driving me mad with his diving, stay on your feet man.

As much as I like koki I think its madness if we are spending 3m on him. It's not like hes even a guaranteed starter and this prob means poku is gonna be out longer than we hoped for. Surely there's a cheaper option out there who is a more traditional type of winger. Someone who is quick and direct who can bang a good cross in. We have a load of guys who are dribble but none are big and fast. We seem to get over run very easily..

Saito on 15:00 - Aug 22 with 2945 viewsNW5Hoop

I guess the logic would be that if Derby are willing to pay £5m for him, then there's an expectation that he'll have rapid resale value. So, yes, he is not worth £5m now in terms of his contribution to the team. But he's the kind of player who might well be worth £15m in 18 months' time.

Poku plays on the right.

Saito plays on the left.

We’re signing him because the club think he’s going to increase in value in a season or two. Also, possibly because Kolli is going and/or we are committed to playing Chair in the middle.

The big question mark was Dembele. Whilst he signed as a right winger, he played across that 3 behind the forward in pre-season as we began with him on the left and Poku on the right. When all 3 are fit, someone we’ve spent serious money on will not play. Perhaps we don’t have faith in Williams that it will happen very often.

I really like Saito as a player, but for £3m would have much preferred us to sign an experienced central midfielder.

Also, strategically, for the “project” I feel like we need to sign a central midfielder so that we can sell Varane (now, Jan or next summer) and have a replacement already in the building.

Unless Smyth is on his way out its a no. We do need a hard mean bone crushing midfielder more.

So many numbers being plucked out of the air for Saiito. We should buy him for £1.3 million and sell him for £7 million. ( all figures that have appeared on here )

Strong and stable my arse.

I like Saito but if the reported figures are true then it makes little sense. We have a clutch of wingers at the club. One of them would have to go and Saito captured for much less than being reported for the deal to stack up. Sadly, we'll never know as, if he does join, the transfer fee will no doubt be undisclosed.

Couple of things. There's a lot to be said for team continuity. Changing half the squad and the coach every season and a half, doesn't build that. Secondly, our fans are getting antsy — with good reason. Their negativity can spread quickly to the players, especially the younger ones. Skills and postion-need aside, Saito was unquestionably popular. That's not an insignificant factor especially early in the season.

So just to be clear, because we're not short of short players, we should bring in some tall ones just because they're tall(er)?

This reminds me of that weird post I a few days ago which told us that Clive Allen wasn't/couldn't be a top top top player because he was 'only' 5'10".

Anyway, I guess that's the long and short of it.

So Madsen with a Mackie heart transplant? (Which would presumably kill Jamie and/or leave him heartless.) It's all a bit Wizard of Oz, isn't it? What next for the QPR squad, past or present? A brain transplant for Mr Barton?

Incidentally, there's fascaiting anecdotal evidence that it might just work . . .

There was a graphic last week showing Leeds (different league I know ) new signings this summer .
9 of them all between 6’5” and 6’1”.

Physicality now almost the most important requisite .

He wanted to play more but they couldn't find a shirt wide enough in the shoulders to accommodate his moniker

In fairness Mart, 5’3 or 6’6 their graphics all look the same size on CN’s football manager simulations.
