When will managers learn that sitting back defending a 1-0 lead over a long time, more often than not, gives the win away.

Hope that lesson sinks in around our parish.

Seems there are a few links to the Rochdale and the Dale with this current squad of lionesses.
The most obvious being Kiera Walsh who is born and raised in Rochdale.

Then you have Ella Toone who is the other half of Joe Bunney and also Alex Greenwood who is Jack O'Connell's misses.

I watched the game and really enjoyed it. If we’re drawing comparisons to Dale, it was actually England that reminded me most of our play last season - lots of recycling possession, shifting the ball wide around the edge of the opposition box, then switching flanks in search of an opening, only to be met by a well-drilled defence. But, just like us at times last season, their persistence eventually paid off. I’m hoping with the new signings, it’ll pay off more often this season.

The key difference with Dale being: when it really mattered, when the crunch came - we failed. We're not talking tactics here, but bottle

Let's hope you're right about fresh faces in the squad, and on the touchline, making that difference

Agreed and unfortunately changing a squad's and management's mentality is a very difficult task.

In terms of breaking teams down I think Dieservwe will be a game changer. One of the biggest criticisms of McNulty from myself last season was his Plan A relied too heavily on the opposition allowing us space behind their defence to run into. As soon as the opposition, whether good or bad, denied us space we were absolutely toothless and ended up recyling possession constantly to try and create the perfect opening. I wouldn't fancy sitting in and defending my own box for 90 minutes if I was competing against Mani in the air.

Think every Dale fan accepts that not doing it when it mattered. But there was concern about the style of football possibly affecting the club’s progression with respect to entertainment, when in reality that’s not always an issue because it’s all about getting results - especially in the crunch games. We now need to do that.

Mani is a marque signing for us this Summer and he wouldn't have been cheap. It's the managers job now to get the best out of him and the key to that is to give him plenty of supply, and put in first time crosses. Progressing the ball into the final third and then looking to turn back and recycle the ball is the opposite of what's required. That would be negating the threat that Mani brings and would play into the hands of our opponents. I don't think McNulty has the appetite to move away from his cautious, possession based style of play but hopefully the two newly recruited coaches do and they will impose their ideas on the manager. Mani scored a great header against Grimsby from the only real chance created for him, that supply line needs to increase to get the best out of him because one or two chances a game isnt enough.

Last season we put loads of crosses in the box but there was no one to attack it, hopefully mani will solve this

Yes, i hope you're right. McNulty is also looking to bring in another forward, we have to increase the number of goals we score this season. When we take the lead we also need to continue to score another, we did the opposite last season in too many games and paid a heavy price for it. Let's aim to be the top goalscorers in the league, set the players a challenge that they can take into every game.

Getting the job done... Can we have some of that, please?

Spain looked the better side, right up until they weren't. Hell, the stats show they out-passed us

Yeah that’s certainly something the men’s team have constantly failed to do in tournament football when it’s mattered. In fact, in the two finals they’ve rarely looked like getting the job done.

Spain were an excellent side but came up against a resilient England who possessed a very good goalkeeper and penalty takers who kept their nerve.

I think it’s a bit tiresome that comparisons keep being made with men’s football.
“It’s not as good as lower league EFL or NL standard” for example.
This England team have won their Euros again so are deservedly amongst the best national teams in the world. You can only play what’s in front of you as the saying goes.
I also find it amusing that a lot of the social media critics must have watched the games to reach a conclusion.

Tbh, those making such comparisons are just really sad people (mainly blokes, to go with the title of this thread)

The real comparison to be made is with sports such as tennis and athletics

A ranking male tennis player would beat the very best females almost every single time, yet men's & women's tennis is watched equally intently without the type of nonsense comparison you refer to

Same with athletics: equally great to watch the best of the men and the best of the women

I guess some blokes feel threatened by women performing at the top of their sport. If they didn't, they'd keep their gobs shut

Surely you know by now that some people who post on social media often do so without having done any such thing.

If you don't know why your posts keep getting downvoted, there's no hope for you.

Congrats to the Lioness.
The whole tournament after the France match they proved to critics wrong and I for did not expect them to beat spain even though it came down to penalties.

People need to stop comparing the national womens team and the mens team
The question for me couls Sarina Weigman coach the mens national team or are there to many big egos .....
I would like to see her be given a mens squad of her own choosing for a friendly match...
It wont happen though..

Firstly I would like to say that I have no issue with women's football and to those (mainly men) that do. If it offends you, don't bleeding watch it and keep your mouth shut.
What bothers me is the fact that premier league clubs are using their women's teams to manipulate PSR . Already Chelsea and Villa have sold off their women's teams to themselves at hugely unrealistic valuations and whilst they state how much money they are spending on their WSL teams, the actual spend is nothing like as much.
Also Doncaster Belles, probably the greatest women's football side of my generation, booted out because they're not a glamour club. Premier league women's clubs will ultimately result in the women's game becoming like the Premier league only a few teams will ever have a chance of winning the WSL and that's no good for anyone.
Finally you can argue all you want about the quality of the football, personally I think it's improving, but Chloe Kelly's penalty was worthy of winning any final.

Proud to be English today after a great tournament from our Ladies.....there is not a lot to shout about these days and being Patriotic to England is often greeted with a frown.

The Ladies did the biz and in style against the odds.

totally agree i really got into it and watched in 2022 and 2023.. it was better than that club world cup sh ite i couldnt get into that and didnt even watch the final.. i think the womens internationals at top level is bang on in terms of womens sport.. i lost interest in the holland and wales games as they were too easy but the knock out games were brilliant great entertainment.
the france game was good too.
