Lads, they happen a lot. Do you think you could all maybe have a think about what we should do with them when we get one instead of all just standing about waiting for someone else to do something?

Honestly, I've been telling my pals that we are historically the worst at throw ins, but just haven't had any stats to back it up.

Today was even worse than usual

So, throw-ins...pretty crap.

Free-kicks...rubbish on the whole.

Corner kicks...well, we did set up a goal with one yesterday.

Going well for the new set-piece coach, isn't it?

I have been doing that quite a lot in our home games too.
I did notice that Kolli did throw the ball to Chair ( who used the cannot be offside from a throw in rule) and made a run into a good position in added time , but the useless ref blew for a retake. So maybe we will see more of this in future games.

As for defending corners, Preston equalised by keeping their forward up when defending our one, yet we didn’t learn from that and still brought everyone back to defend their corners. I agree, 2 of the likes of Dembele Poku Burrell etc would be better being kept near the halfway line when defending corners.
This would allow an outlet for a breakaway attack, but also mean opposition would need to keep at least the same number back which would lead to a less congested penalty area to defend. At the least it is a worth a try out over the next few games to gauge its effectiveness.

That injury time retake was scandalous. Nothing wrong with it at all. Referee just couldn't be arsd with the hassle of us scoring a winner from it.

Are we at least beating the first man at corners now?

I'd prefer to hit the first man than put it into the 'keepers hands!

EDIT

I see that perignanr beat me to this!

When I was a kid playing Saturday mornings, you'd get about 3 foul throws in a row. We were always taught that the ball had to be thrown with your hands starting behind your head. Referee yesterday might as well let Preston players under arm the ball into play, after the obligatory 30 seconds plus of wasting time obviously.

They were also walking while throwing

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

It really was. Ref spent most of the time just guessing at which way something would go, but seemed absolutely dead set on clamping down on a throw on not been taken from where he thought it should be taken from.

Absolute joyless pr1ck.

Him and that one linesman who was making a whole song and dance of being in line with the last man, but spending all his efforts on doing that rather than actually getting any decisions correct.

Took my 7-year old to his first game since he's gotten obsessed with football. Have told him he's allowed to call the referee a b*stard, but he's too much of a rule follower to do it.

I can only think that he thought it was taken from the wrong place. Iverson utterly hoofed that clearance; no-one could pinpoint exactly where it left the field of play with 15 yards, but Langford could somehow from a position 50 yards away remote from the touchline.

I mean it isn't as though he was religiously holding anyone to taking throws from the right place all day was it?

The usual permission to take a throw that went out right in the corner on the edge of the pen area was in evidence as always. What is the point in having "laws" if these pr1cks interpret them differently every single time.

Can we go out yet?

What do you mean you miss Pinner? Say it ain’t so. Top contributor. One of the few I venture to the 2nd paragraph. What’s the story?

Lest we few, we happy few, forget that one of our more memorable goals started from the hands of Simon Stainrod.

That said, I'm struggling to think of a goal we've scored from a throw since 22 May 1982. So, we're due one!

Haven't seen him on here for about a year now. Loved the too and fro with someone who actually defended referees no matter what went on during the games.

I think Stainrod practised throwing to his whippets/greyhounds.

Mbengue looks like he has a decent long throw, we just need Jimmy back as first receiver and the goals will flood in. Just hoping he doesn’t pick up tennis elbow before Dunne’s return….

Those possessed by devils, try and keep them under control a bit, can't you ?

You can pass a lot of time in a 3-0 away defeat watching how often we keep the ball for three touches or more after one of our throws.

As many as three, you say??

Shit but local
