Throw ons 19:01 - Aug 9 with 2849 views | JamieNaz | Lads, they happen a lot. Do you think you could all maybe have a think about what we should do with them when we get one instead of all just standing about waiting for someone else to do something? Honestly, I've been telling my pals that we are historically the worst at throw ins, but just haven't had any stats to back it up. Today was even worse than usual
Throw ons on 23:16 - Aug 9 with 1972 views | GloryHunter | I'm always astonished that most professional footballers don't seem to be aware that you can't be offside from a throw-in. Every throw-in in the opponent's half should be forward, to a player running wide behind the back line. Wimbledon used to do it in the 1980s, but it seemed to fall out of fashion.
Throw ons on 03:46 - Aug 10 with 1824 views | PlanetHonneywood | Can I also 'throw' into the mix, keep someone up when we're defending a corner. This is something that boils my piss. Especially as we've now got blokes like Dembele and Poku whose real defensive attribute when defending a corner is not their height but rather, the speedy outlet they'll provide when the ball is punted upfield.

Throw ons on 05:24 - Aug 10 with 1767 views | Tonto | At least the long throw in the first half (was it Poku or Mbenge?) was reasonably long, and much firther than a Paul Smyth throw that masqueraded as one.

It was Mbemgue and it was a proper long throw.

I've actually got a print of the original on my wall indoors (not the throw-in one, wondrous as it is)

I have been doing that quite a lot in our home games too. I did notice that Kolli did throw the ball to Chair ( who used the cannot be offside from a throw in rule) and made a run into a good position in added time , but the useless ref blew for a retake. So maybe we will see more of this in future games. As for defending corners, Preston equalised by keeping their forward up when defending our one, yet we didn’t learn from that and still brought everyone back to defend their corners. I agree, 2 of the likes of Dembele Poku Burrell etc would be better being kept near the halfway line when defending corners. This would allow an outlet for a breakaway attack, but also mean opposition would need to keep at least the same number back which would lead to a less congested penalty area to defend. At the least it is a worth a try out over the next few games to gauge its effectiveness.
Throw ons on 13:28 - Aug 10 with 1134 views | DannyPaddox | When I used to play we used a simple ploy when you were tightly marked at a throw. You moved to one side and the defender followed. The thrower would then throw the ball to your other side into the space you created - you’d be anticipating this and get to the ball first and away from your marker. In a nutshell: First move for your marker. Second move for the ball. It was often effective. If anyone at the club is reading this dm me and we can arrange some throw-in coaching sessions. My rates are competitive.
Throw ons on 14:31 - Aug 10 with 1079 views | priceyparkrangers | It was the most frustrating thing about yesterday and at the Brentford game. Absolutely no movement at all. Really felt bad for Esquerdinha having to take throws on his debut to statues.

Has to be one of the most frustrating things for players and fans at LR when we simply cross the ball straight into the keepers hands or worse still out of play wildly which we did multiple times yesterday. And that was with Paul Smyth nowhere in sight . Everybody are saying Preston are a sh*t team this year but they managed to put the ball into the danger zone so many times we were so lucky to escapr. Most other teams we play pick the correct cross pass when they penetrate our coverage but we normally miss all targets. The corners have been shocking but mostly the fault of Paal hopefully this year we can put that right

Throw ons on 16:17 - Aug 10 with 877 views | Toast_R | When I was a kid playing Saturday mornings, you'd get about 3 foul throws in a row. We were always taught that the ball had to be thrown with your hands starting behind your head. Referee yesterday might as well let Preston players under arm the ball into play, after the obligatory 30 seconds plus of wasting time obviously.
Throw ons on 17:41 - Aug 10 with 783 views | Tonto | Could you also add into your training sessions not to throw the ball to your ou colleagues at groin hight. It requires 2 touches to control the ball from there and pass it, by which time the opposition has usually closed us down.
