23.3 years.

Three things.

1. that is ridiculously low, by far the lowest today in the Championship today.
2. Don't panic. These youngsters need our support.
3. I felt really old watching that.

Poll: How is Nourry cooking so far ? 🤣

All right question what you say and/or the language you use, I think that covers it.. That happens in MBs all the time.

However, if we must keep score, no one is forming new accounts to denigrate Nourry that I can see.I didn't say they did. Bit of a straw man there.

I'm not saying those that loathe Nourry are not acting in good faith either. Just that it doesn't have to inforn and infect almost every thread (IMO obviously) as I don't think it's helpful. I understand that's very much a minority view and I accept that.

Well, I think personally we should let poor grammar, spelling, and syntax go for a better forum.

Re Strawman: I never said you did. I was using it as an example of obnoxiousness from ‘Nourrists’ that you say you are tired of from ‘anti Nourrists’.

There is some irony that following a comment giving credit to Nourry, that people have expressed a tiredness of people discussingg Nourry, resulting in a discussion about Nourry.

Jack Supple tweeted that it was the youngest average age of a starting 11 since 2018.

Some parts enforced, but this is clearly the Nourry model, to bring down the age of the squad and give meaningful playing time to younger players with high potential and profiles that bigger clubs generally want.

In theory it's the right thing financially as selling consistently for decent money is the only way to raise the tide for a club like ours, the short term risk of course is that the lack of experience and growing pains of development players means we don't survive the league...

Time will tell. I get the feeling if we get to next summer finishing anything above 15th with good offers coming in for one or a combination of Varane, Poku, Dembele, Chair, etc - and a chance to reinvest that in the next wave of slightly better / higher profile targets - that will be a successful season for Nourry and the board.

I agree with you, and Nix.
If I'm in some way responsible for this spat, I apologise.
I just found what you said quite funny, without meaning it as a criticism.
So yeah, I like some of what Nourry is doing, no, I'm not totally convinced by him, and yes, im bored of the constant sniping at him.

Poll: Do we need another Eze thread

I certainly didn't mention anyone's poor grammar, spelling or syntax so I don't get that point.I certainly wasn't advocating for that.

I don't call people Nourrists or anti-Nourrists or Nourristas. It's exactly the kind of nonsense I cant stand. But I can hold the position that it's unnecessary to infect every thread with criticism of Nourry while not being a 'fan' of Nourry and still thinking it's laughable and irritating to set up accounts praising him. Oh and also be worried about him not having got the balance of the squad right.

If by 'people' you include me, what I picked up on was the unnecessary IMO 'I don't like Nourry' comment. Hardly surprising that a post about Nourry results in a discussion about Noury.

Interesting re the ages and can see it fits strategy for a selling club and help us long term to be more self sufficient. An ambition of finishing above 15th is a bit depressing but I guess given we have been flirting with the bottom three for a while now finishing above 15th is relalistic target just not very motivating for your every day fan…as Clive has often mentioned if we had a stab at the cup run that would bring a bit of excitement!

I think there's obviously aspirations to finish as high as possible and get towards the playoffs, but the reality is that it takes 3-4 years/layers worth of good sales and then incrementally better signings to build a squad capable of competing for more than consolidation.

We fúcked the Eze money first time, but let's say we get £15-20m next summer for a combination of Varane, Chair and Eze sell on. We then use that for 3-4 Varane, Poku, Saito, Kone types and go again. The next year slightly more income, slightly higher profile of player, etc. Supplement that with youth players that are first team capable before they're 23 and the odd Kieran Morgan, and we're away.

I think any team can find form and do well as a one off in this league with a decent manager, good spirit and consistent team, but outside of the parachute clubs you have to plan 3-4 years ahead to get a team capable of pushing top 6 consistently. I think we're at year 2 of that plan and the average age and starts for Walsh, Esq etc is part of that.

I think it's also why the club were so cool on Cook renewing on his own terms instead of the Fox/Colback options, and probably pìssed at Marti giving him the games to make it happen!

I hadn’t noted this but love that fact. No loan players is a great move for a club like
Us

Not even sure how you can say that when loans have kept us in this division season after season. Eaten bread and all that...

I have a feeling that Nourry is copying the Sunderland blueprint. Build a team of talented youngsters and let them gain experience through games (a parody of Christian's career to date).

Agree with all of this.

Obviously there's a risk of over-cooking this strategy and leaving yourself short of experience and guile. Also accepting that some of these won't work out. But given the choice between a raw Mbengue and a Joel-Lynch lumbering around I know who I'd prefer to watch.

I also think part of the strategy is hanging onto some of your best players hence new contracts for Varane, Morgan etc, which must've cost some of our budget for new players.

Nothing signifies a change of the times more than the fact Chair was our oldest starting player on the weekend. I know he's been with us forever but it still doesn't feel right

I thought Morrison and Mbengue were very good. If they can keep that level and grow as a partnership, Cook will be doing a lot of bench time this season.
Mbengue was great in the difficult left sided CB position for a right footed player.

No idea where the rumour originated about Dunne being out long term but if true I would probably play Mbengue at RB at least some of the time and bring Cook back in centrally. Cook's minutes have to be managed better this season but think there should be a happy balance between sending him to Siberia and playing him until he breaks down (as we did last season). Morgan did really well at right back I thought but given our attrition rate with injuries he might be needed some time in midfield.
