1. Three centre-halves again; I really am not a fan of this.
2. Fraser at right-back. Quite the slap in the face for Sugawara.
3. Armstrong on his own up front again. This was a bit of a disaster against Wrexham and didn't work at all.
4. Manning on the bench. Actually surprised by this.

That defence worried me all game. So disjointed.
I'm happy with a point. A tough place to go even at this early stage of the season.
If I had a wish list, it would be a truly classy CB, Rudoni from Coventry, and that Armenian fella. Not sure Downs or sicknote would have had much better luck today.
All in all, 7 out of ten performance. Room for improvement definitely. |  |

We really need a centre forward. Robinson will make and score goals on a regular basis, but he's the only player we've got who will and he's not a centre forward.
But, I have little faith in our recruitment team. Our 2 big buys, Downs and Quarshie, have weakened the squad. We could have got a decent central defender, like Dael Fry or Christoph Klarer and a goalscoring centre forward, like Ayoub El Kaabi, for less. [Post edited 17 Aug 14:18]

Our full backs aren't great at defending so maybe until bree is fit he thinks this is the best way to grind out a result. THB and Quarshie first touch was terrible constantly putting themselves under pressure - hopefully they can fix that in training. | | | |

Not sure I'm in favour but one thing I'd say is that it lets the wing backs get forward. Last week Manning crosses for the winner. This week it's Fraser. If he hadn't been able to get forward and be high up the pitch then Jay wouldn't have scored.
I'd also say that you need to give these things time. You can't turn up and immediately have a cohesive defence, plus Quarshie is a newbie and THB is rusty (thank God for Super Jack!). I'm prepared to give it time. | | | |

Quite interesting interview with Still on SKY after the game.
Basically said that he is forced to play 3 at the back as he doesn't have the wingers in the squad that he wants.
He isn't tied to 3 at the back, we played 4 at the back in pre-season friendlies.
Seems to me we need to sign two wingers and a striker as a minimum. [Post edited 17 Aug 14:28]

I said we'd learn something but im not sure what.
Strange formation and suddenly Frazer who couldn't get a kick when we were at our worst, is now a starting wingback.
Defence does look very suspect and we had no presence up front.
Oh and MF and Robinson looked very good, so he took both off.

I thought it was all a little work in progress today but full credit to the players, who battled away after an early setback and came away with a point against a team which in all probability will be in the end of season shake up.
Not pretty and a little lucky but the sort of away result which if repeated throughout the season and coupled with good home form could easily get us back into The Premier League. | |
