It's only August and Julien is already being sent to Coventry - Match Thread 13:12 - Aug 21 with 48606 viewsFDC

In 20 odd years I don't think I've ever started one of these.

I'm thinking (hoping) we will go with a three man midfield this weekend, with Morgan, Field and Varane. Coventry scored five last weekend! We can't afford to concede too early, and will need to score first to get anything out of it IMO. An early Coventry goal, supporters getting aggy... gulp.

We all want a box-to-box no. 8, but these players are high value and not easy to sign on the cheap. He's young, and a bit slight, but I wonder if we need to start thinking about cultivating Morgan in this role as a long term solution? We know he can get stuck in, he's got bags of energy, and popped up with an absolute thunder-bastard last weekend.

Poku being out actually makes this an easier decision to make, because we can play Chair and Dembele either side of Burrell (or Kone if fit) without agonizing over who gets left out.

Presumably Dunne returns at RB, Esquardinho returns at LB, and Morrison and Mbengue start at CB.

Three man midfield isn't it? ✅

Chair injury rumours seem to have been correct, ffs. Maybe we do need to sign some more midget 10s after all

I think the project will try grinding this one out.

Kolli and Demebele will be important without the ball as they will be expected to be with it....'kin bricking it already with this one!!

Yeh not sure what Mbengue did to get dropped over Cook but maybe he values the experience/leadership.

It's interesting that no one has spotted that Celar is absent too. Just like his on field presence too. There's apparently a rumour he's off to Germany but that's second hand gossip.

Can see the logic given the age and inexperience of the team, but I've thought since watching the Toulouse game Cook hasn't looked fit or sharp at all, which is a shame given his heroics in the past.

Looks like a good starting XI. Kone not fit for 90 mins yet
and Chair injured but it could open more possibilities to put the ball into the box and feed Burrell cause when Chair is on the pitch I do often get bloody frustrated with him dribbling and loosing the ball and just being too bloody selfish at times. And he has been a bit cxxp since he came back from the injury.

That's the good news.

The bad is no Chair, not even on the bench.

I suppose if Stephan put Chair on the bench he would be accused of overkill

Perhaps Leicester in for him, they look bereft on the left.

Kone not fit for 90 minutes? He is a professional athletic isn't he ? I'm disappointed our new striker isn't starting.

i think there were a few articles last year saying he was off to werder bremen (who finished 8th lsat season in the bundesliga), but that struck me as a bit of agents planting stories to drum up fake interest

20 games last season in which he offered literally nothing.... hardly any shots on target, no assists, no linkup, no running around like lyndon dykes, literally nothing.... scored 2 good goals against cardiff but that was the extent of his contribution... worth also noting he had a hamstring injury that basically sidelined him for the entire rest of season

no way a top half bundesliga team was signing him off the back of that....

not sure what to infer from his being dropped ,but its pretty bad when adamson, akindenli and bennie are getting in ahead of him

What Chair gives us is ball retention. We’re a poorer side without him IMO and will tend to go longer.

I see on instagram they mention Chair sustaining an injury in training hence his absence but no mention of Celar, hoped he’d come good but I’d say from this he’s definitely on the move. Free up some wages and potentially some more recruits incoming.

Feels best for everyone at this stage if he finds a move. Do we actually know what we spent on him? I wonder how much of it we could recoup

I been quiet about the injuries

But fr*king h*ck !!!

In the past, never heard players getting injured in training or preseason.

It's an absolute joke and I dont get Kone not had a preseason. He did. Somewhere else.

But Chair out for the season no doubt !!! - probably not.

But this is worse than ever before and Chair is my favourite player too !!!!!

Loading issues - no doubt ..

Mbengue benched already? Seems we don't like defenders with pace!

That's an odd one. Looked good against Preston, obviously didn't play against Plymouth and then played out of position last weekend. As others have said, Cook hasn't looked great since pre-season - a big test for him against a side that scored five away from home last weekend.

Indeed. I hate to say it, but Cook looks v close to being finished.
Maybe a handful of " get outta my pub" interventions still.left in the tank.

I wonder if the thinking on Cook relates to Walsh and Esquerdhino and giving them a bit of extra leadership back there. However the worry is the sacrifice is pace

IMHO Cook was starting to show his age early last season, and from what I've seen that's continued this season.

Cook has played one game this season: perhaps a bit early to write him off as ‘finished’

As you get older it takes longer to get over injuries and retain and regain fitness. He could be really important to us again, yet.

We are simply cursed if the injuries happened on the pitch during a match ( like Cook and multiple others ) its much easier to digest and say its just part of the game.
We have endured multiple injuries to big names during training yet this week posters were bemoaning our lack of intensity during squad sessions yet this might be the answer as to why it looks passive .
Either way its so frustrating and really poor for all concerned
