Do you think we can all lay off Cullen for now. I hope he doesn’t read the forum because it will knock every bit of confidence out of him. I’m sure he doesn’t but all the same.
He’s not lazy in fact works hard, he’s not without ability as we’ve seen in many occasions and he doesn’t lack passion.
But he’s being played in the wrong position and he’s not had many rivals although there is a feeling now that Wales needs more grass time. And Vip of course.
We all know we need better but that’s down to others not him and I think / hope the situation will be resolved in the next 10 days or so.

Being a local(ish) boy who's come through the academy we of course want him to do well but I just don't think he has the ability to play consistently at this level. He tries very hard, but the quality isn't there.
I wouldn't want to lose him completely because he'd still be a useful squad member to come on and help close games out. But for me, he's (a) not good enough as a striker and (b) we have better options than him at AM. Because if his work rate he may be better suited to a CM role as Bellamy has used him for Wales but it'll take time to convert him to there and we have better options currently. |  | | |

Fans are frustrated as he is getting lavish praise and getting a little better every season. He however does not seem to get on the end of things which i noticed on his debut under Potter v Crystal palace
With the striking issues it appears Vipotnik is next to the exit door not Cullen. Similarly and Yates and Kuharvevych wre given the boot with Kyle Joseph another falling on the sword with out given the slack Cullen has been given.
Vipotnik has been give a boot up the jaxie and responded. He is 22 and can score with his feet and head. Cullen is 26. Vip's goal was extremely well executed. |  |

Cullen is getting grief...yet we all know he is not a lone striker....so does Sheehan he said as much in Tursdays presser....again today many around me were having a go at Cullen but he is doing the job he is being asked to do even though he is a round peg in a square hole he fits but doesnt fill the slot.

we agree on that....but this thread was about getting off Cullens back....
Whilst not the answer Sheehan sees Cullen as his best option currently which shows how poor our previous recruitment has been we all agree Cullen is not an out and out striker buts its not his fault he is failing and appearing useless in a role to which he is not best suited. | |

Yes he got caught offisde a lot today,despite being marked by 6 ft giants he did get some headers in today.
He cant be that useless or the manager wouldnt pick him.....or do we have a useless manger for doing so? | |

I think Craig Bellamy knows his best position and if we had a competent striker sheehan would have him playing there.

The reason Cullen starts is the Vipotnik who barely touched the ball against Middlesborough and couldn’t impose himself on Crawley Town is the one who usually shows up.
If he played like he did today regularly, nobody would want Cullen to be our #9.
I’m sure he’ll start against Plymouth. If he does well, then I’ll want him to start at Wednesday. If he has his usual game, I won’t. | | | |

Cullen isn’t a centre forward. We all know that and it’s why most have us have been so desperate for the club to sign one this summer.
He’s not above criticism at all. You need at least one of strength, pace or height to compete up front on your own. He doesn’t really have any compared to the average championship centre back. | | | |

You’re losing the plot, I never said my opinion was better than yours. It’s just my opinion that Cullen is lucky to be able call himself a professional footballer considering in my opinion he lacks any of the basic skills needed.

On vip, in my limited football opinion and quite a few others on here and in the ground, he lacks the basic skills of a no9, he doesn't move the centre backs about at all, he is slow to react to balls played into him and he is slow to react to crosses but after seeing goal today his movement across the centre half was class, I honestly thought he had it in him last season and stuck up for him constantly but he failed miserably to deliver, I thought sheehan getting hold of him under a pressure season would have kicked him on but after seeing him against boro I thought hes finished with us, I just hope his cameo and goal will get him going but I truly believe he hasn't got it, i hope i am wrong. | | | |
