It's an interesting question though. Would the club automatically lose more money every month in League One? I would guess so. Is the only business plan that would see relegation as as a positive one that ends with the club folding? Or is there some mad lower league dipping scenario that makes spreadsheet sense? I wouldn't have thought so, but maybe?

I honestly don't believe anyone wants relegation. But it is a way of circumnavigating ffp rules, to a degree. Of course, you still have to do that to good effect.

See posts from this time last year and the year before. Sure, it ain’t great but remember when we got walloped by Watford a year or so ago? IIRC we finished one point behind them by the end. And yes, of course people will give a schit.

I mean, Birmingham are a case-study in using their time in L1 to good effect, and listening to their supporters they had a great time blowing people off the pitch every weekend. Presumably they didn't lose money because they had a full house every weekend. So yeah the Birmingham scenario is you use a season in L1 to get around FFP, load up the squad, get promoted with a better squad and hope to get up to the premiership before FFP takes you out. Risky though, and there are obviously many more cases of clubs sinking without trace. A good friend of mine is an Oldham supporter, and we often discuss that Furlong goal as a sliding doors moment for two fairly similarly-sized clubs up until that point. I can't imagine CN would want a relegation on his CV, and relegation would presumably only further our owners' disinterest. Another poster - forget who - described QPR as being like a forgotten direct debit, which captures it wonderfully. So absolutely no guarantee at all that the owners would be inclined to start pumping money into the club if we were to get relegated. Summary: let's not chance it [Post edited 26 Aug 8:04]

but he did say it would be a difficult league to get out of I think we have more than enough to stay up and will probably do so comfortably

'League 1 Is a graveyard for clubs' I can think of at least six teams in the last ten years that made it to the Premiership from there.

If what I am hearing is true, players and staff both think we'll go down.

The club would need motivated owners to do what the likes of Birmingham have done in League One. We do not, so we'd be more likely to sink without a trace and be down the bottom two leagues for the long haul.
