Not exactly going to plan. They seem somewhat unstoppable at the moment.

Championship weekend thread Chat a-long on 18:41 - Aug 30 with 1697 views | Whiterockin | We are nicely placed in 7th after the first block of four games with 7 points and undefeated since the first game of the season. I think we can take 10 points from the next block of five games Hull home, Birmingham away, Millwall home, Blackburn away and Leicester home. Do that and will be serious contenders.

We have three big tests coming up- Forest in the Cup and Birmingham and Leicester in the league. Forest are way above us but a good performance against them would be a fantastic confidence booster. Birmingham away will be difficult but not impossible to win while Leicester at home is definite there for us. Exciting times

Ten points won't be easy. We'd need to beat Hull, Millwall and Blackburn to achieve that IMO.

Hopefully nobody will get crocked on International duty. They're hit and miss games. We'd be confident of a win, and to be fair so might they. I'm not sure that we'll really begin to hit our stride for another month or so.

I think our midfield options are up there with the best in the league. Our defence is solid and even Key played well today IMO. We have options out wide and Vipotnik is starting to come into his stride.i think we are ahead of what I was expecting.

There's a bit of fluidity missing for me. Not quite moving the ball quick enough, sometimes the passes aren't quite right, sometimes a bit too cautious. Most of that will ease with practice and experience. But, as good as our midfield is, it reminds me a bit of the Britton/Gower/Orlandi setup that Rodgers initially favoured in 2010/11. All a bit samey. Stamenic, Galbraith, Franco, Yalcouye, all good at what they do but just missing a certain something. Like we were until the Dobster found himself playing as a #10. I really wanna see us give Widell or even Eom a decent run at AM.

Think there were a number moves that opened them up most noteably getting Franco into good shooting positions a couple of times, so is it the finishing you think Dobbie would supply or the guile to create them for himself and others? You did say away from home you think the midfield picked was correct and I would agree but does Inoussa who started his first league provide that unknown factor similar to Dobbie? Early days yet and the team is still finding it's feet and Stamenic played a good anchor role all be it against a poor team. It was a nice team performance it would be interesting to see how this developing team would have perform against Middlesbrough given it was nip and tuck in the season opener and but for some poor set piece defence we could have come away with a point. In the league Middlesbrough played 4 won 4 puts our opening game into perspective.

It's the classic glass half-full scenario. Our only defeat was against the top team, while our two wins have been against the bottom two teams. Only Millwall have scored fewer goals than us in the top half of the table, yet only Middlesboro have conceded less. We played poorly in the Carabao Cup, and yet we won and are in the 3rd round. People can see what they want to see.

Yes, Francos finishing is poor. I thought he was very composed to skip past the man from Inoussas pass late in the first half, rather than shooting first time and probably being blocked (Dobbie like) but then he dragged it wide when it didn’t need to go right in the corner to beat the keeper. He does get into decent shooting positions in the edge of the box, but usually snatches at it like he did in the second half. Inoussa is something we’ve missed for a while. He runs at defenders and commits them, he is a bit of an X factor. I don’t think it’s coincidence Vipotniks best performances have come with him on the pitch, when he’s got a worried defender backpedaling, it allows Vipotnik to make a run beyond them, and get played in. I do kind of agree with Dr W about having a creative player in there at home and also for games like yesterday which we dominated. I’m not convinced Yalcouye couldn’t do it though, not by being creative, but turning over possession high up the pitch. You don’t need to open up defences if you steal it when they aren’t set.

There are signs of better play up top with more chances being made all.be it against some poor defending by Sheff Wednesday. Against a better organised team would we over commit as we try and break teams down especially at home with the expectations to attack. All for getting forward in numbers but over committing players forward without players covering the forward runs can leave us in disarray scrambling back letting pressure build with the opposition getting into the box. Sheff Wed had a good chance of getting back into the game when they were one nil down. Getting that fine line right between attack and defence right can be quite tricky, Stamenic and Galbraith seem to get us up the pitch in the middle of the park when the flanks get blocked, as Sheehan stated tweaks were instigated in the half time break which were telling, luckily Sheehan didn't go into detail wouldn't want him to give away any advantages we could gain in other games. Sheehan seems more cautious with his words unlike previous managers who spend time trying to big themselves up and become the centre of attention giving too much information away.

As it stands Inoussa should be starting every league game and likewise Cipotnik. I watched the extended highlights just now and Inoussa really does add an extra dimension we have been missing in a long while. I bet he’d also make a cracking #10 as his passes are pinpoint accurate as seen on more than one occasion yesterday. Classy

The difference , for me, has been Stamenic Comes straight in to the team and makes an immediate difference right from the off He was brought in to replace Grims IMO but is bigger stronger quicker and more influential The players look to him already A coup de grace bringing him in He is to be a big favourite

Yes I’d agree with you on that and I’d add Stamenic. We dominated midfield yesterday and we dominated it after they came in against Watford, after being outmuscled in the first half. That gave Inoussa a platform. Also agree on Vipotnik. Two weeks ago I’d have said Cullen, but Vipotnik has been so much better since then, that there’s not even a question of which one of them should start now. Sheehan publicly said Cullen had the shirt not long ago. I’m sure he’s changed his mind too.

Team game, Galbraith popping up all over the place making nice options around the box Inoussa pacey and tricky again around the box both creating space for others to benefit Vipotnik and Ronald scoring goal they have been missing, Widell looking lively, nice to see the defence doing the defensive work first and not pressing forward too early Tymon not trying to get forward so often conserving energy to defend and it works better because Stamenic in the middle has options to play to the full backs, it is the easiest thing in the world for a central midfield to get himself out of tricky situation one touch pass to fullbacks who haven't gone rush up the field beyond you expecting you to turn and play wonder balls while under pressure, instead balls in front of the fullback that he can run onto at pace creating a forward momentum that drags defending opposition around and makes them work harder and gives our rmidfielder time to choose his options better. I did think Stamenic makes a difference with the simplicity of his play which then seemed to spread to the rest of the team.

That's excatly why Galbraith would be wasted at left back, far to skillful and important for us dictating play from an AM position in my opinion of course. In a wedding allday yesterday so not seen any of yesterday's game.
