As if the postings on here couldn't get more interesting, has anyone of a certain age/ludite inclination noticed their ability to use their actual physical debit card getting phased out?
Mine seemed to be required to be inserted every 3 goes or so for the last few months, and now it's stopped working contactlessly altogether.
Personally I don't want to get my phone out all the time, usually twice because I hadn't stuck my thumb on it properly the first time.
If there is a final straw this may well be it for me. What happens after the final straw is anyone's guess. (Possibly nothing). [Post edited 6 Sep 15:21]

Sounds like you just need to get a new card. They do wear out after a while. Same about using phone for payments I'd rather not. Jumpers for goalposts etc! |  | | |

Yeah that's fine. I'm more worried about the global conspiracy, Big Crypto forcing us to use our phones etc. Like with the season tickets but on a larger scale.

I was sceptical at first but once I set up Apple Pay it’s quite easy. Just like a card really.
If I’m going somewhere for a long part of the day (i.e a QPR game) then I’ll take my card too just in case the phone battery runs out though I tend to take a power bank as well, cover all my bases!
Edit: oh and I think contactless goes up to £100 and more than that it’s put the card into the machine + PIN whereas Apple Pay is a much higher contactless amount [Post edited 6 Sep 17:41]

Surely its more secure as it requires you to unlock / authorise the transaction rather than simply tap. Quite like the simplicity of it, even more so using my watch which also has my season ticket on it. | | | |

I have a mobile phone with a few known contacts on It, If I'm checking some of my saving accounts that I've got I will get a code sent to my mobile phone so I kind of need It, I didnt buy the phone my Lad gave It to me as It was his ex Managers Company phone.
The only good thing about the phone Is the Apple car play with my I-Tunes on It.
I hate phones, they are an Intrusion to a normal peaceful day, some f ucking minge walking down the road talking shit to some other piece of minge shit, f uck right off with your verbal crap waffling down my lug holes.

I made the switch from actual wallet to Google Wallet. It's just easier and it lets me include any loyalty cards so it's all in one place. Your Tesco Clubcard, Boots card etc. And my three debit cards.
I only ever need a physical card for when I go to Costco for petrol. Aside from then, the wallet stays home. |  |

Many pay at pump petrol stations don’t have touch facilities.

I think you're right. When precious metals trade at record levels in a backdrop of huge sovereign and personal debt globally, you know the proverbial is about to hit the fan.
That's before we consider how gold has and maybe still is, massively overtraded!

Don't want to get all political, but basically we lose cash at our peril. I suppose it might be Canute-like to try to stem the tide of the cashless, top-down controlled, surveilled society that we seem to be heading for like lemmings, but I would encourage people to keep using cash. |  |
