Whoops! Completely missed those 2 midweek games in between! Hopefully he navigates through the Truro game unscathed and we've got him for Southend atleast. After that he's bound to pick up a yellow before the cut off! What is it 19 games or something?

Only cards collected in the NLC contribute to NLC suspensions.

That'd certainly make sense Perhaps give Mani 70 minutes then bring one or both (if not already started) on to get some game time under their belt prior to Saturday [Post edited 13 Sep 17:39]

Would a wise man have thought,"I'll rest Mani to the bench for this one, just in case of need if struggling to get a result, and hopefully save him from a ban ,to be used against a fellow promotion chaser at San Spotty where he is likely to be a much bigger threat?

No, only a very stupid person would drop the leagues leading goalscorer and our talisman. The manager was absolutely correct to play Mani from the start. Todays game was just as important as next weeks, they are all must win games. We have a back up striker who can cause Southend a lot of problems and also Hendo, a opportunity now for somebody else to shine.

Precisely. There were fans who berated Jim (correctly in my view) for not playing his strongest team at Brackley. And now there are one or two fans suggesting he should use our best striker sparingly. I'm not going to trawl back, but I'll wager there's a bit of hypocrisy going on here. It shouldn't need saying, but we should approach each league match by putting our best side out. Keep repeating this ad nauseam until we run out of players, or fixtures!

Correct, our strongest starting eleven wins a lot of football matches. I also think we have good replacements in most positions if and when they are required. Amantchi will cause any defender problems at this level, if Henderson isnt making the bench then logic tells you that Amantchi will probably start against Southend, i'm looking forward to seeing that.

Exactly. Prevention is better than cure, but, play your strongest team, and rest them when they tire, not to prevent them from tiring.

Or hindsight, not many posts suggesting Mani to be rested before yesterday’s game. As Sutty says the reason for having such depth in the squad is so you can replace quality with quality.

I agree play our 'strongest team' whenever possible! Personally, I would like to see Amantchi given a chance next week, possibly with Hendo featuring in some capacity. The same for Mancini and Pettit although this may require a change of shape. We need to find goals from players other than Mani. Hopefully this will allow us to control games better in the second half.

Strongly suspect the "game of two halves" is down to psychology than personnel, although making subs at the right time comes into it which i think Jim is starting to get the hang of, possibly prompted from those he has around him now, to do that thinking Rather than "two halves", we need more full pints being served. We've not suffered from it so far but that can't last. Pole position, game in hand deserves great credit, but comes with its own challenges Even Keith Hill in his prime struggled with it [Post edited 14 Sep 10:29]

4 yellow cards on 10:43 - Sep 14 with 1643 views | wozzrafc | This team have conceded 2 goals from open play in 7 games, and have comfortably dealt with what’s been thrown at them. There are stronger tests to come but there’s a feel about this team that if the get a goal up they have confidence in each other to see it out. Let’s see where we are after the Carlisle game but they have already shown they have nothing to fear.

Whilst it's a shame for Mani to be suspended, I wouldn't have wanted him to play any differently than he has. He was never going to be able to play every game. I was really pleased when we signed Amantchi, as it gave us an option for times such as these. Training with Hendo and Mani won't have done him any harm either.

Agree with that. We've put one good ninety minute performance in and that was against Gateshead. The majority of our games have been a tale of two halves I think we've got away with it due to a combination of our good defending and goalkeeping but also as a result of ineptitude from our opponents. If it's a tactic to give up ground and sit back once we have a lead, even in our home games, then up to now it's worked. I'd be surprised if it does against the better teams in the league though. I was watching us yesterday and i was looking for passion, desire, a ruthlessness to our play but the second half had none of that against a poor Truro team. The manager seemed very happy though with the performance and on listening to his interview i thought that he must set a very low bar if that second half brought him pleasure. To get out of this league the performances need to improve, we can't play in fits and starts against the better teams. There is a positive though, we are top of the league and i don't think we are playing anywhere near our best yet, i'm hoping McNulty, Done, Taylor and the players all realise that. 4 yellow cards on 12:00 - Sep 14 with 1414 views | 442Dale | Before yesterday I don’t think it’s been a tactic to sit back, more we have been able to control games when the opposition have improved (Braintree and Sutton at home and Wealdstone away). The team are comfortable playing that way, seem calm and everyone knows their role. The biggest irony being if we’d been able to do this last season, we’d have probably beaten Southend. Looking back, the result on the opening day against Boreham Wood illustrates how well we’ve done so far with managing games. Their results since have shown they’re a pretty good side. We need to see if we can repeat that against Southend, Carlisle etc.

It's a optical illusion, the opposition does tend to improve if you stop doing what worked in the first half and sit deep after half time and invite them on to you. Against Sutton and Braintree we struggled to get out of own half and had they scored then we all know how the game changes. Ruthlessness, desire, passion..replaced with sitting back and trying to hold on to what we've got and i'm not having it that these teams are suddenly reinventing their first half performances and are suddenly better than us. I think if we sit back against Southend next week we'll pay for it, same against Carlisle. We're always better playing on the front foot. I was even wondering if our regression in the second half of games is a fitness issue but the general consensus is that its Jim and his teams trying to manage games. Credit to them because its worked up to now. [Post edited 14 Sep 12:18]

Braintree made subs, changed their shape and took control in midfield. Credit to them. They weren’t better than us though, we deservedly won. I just think it’s good we have found different ways to control games and continue winning so far.

According to Savage in his erratic interview, Scunthorpe had chances to put the game to bed but former Dale keeper McNicholas kept FGR in it. Don’t think we have a strategy to defend one goal leads at all. More we look to get games won as soon as possible, as McNulty has mentioned in interviews when we’ve missed chances to go even further ahead - Braintree most recently. Then if we don’t we’ve shown we can still control games whatever the lead is. That’s the Parkin tactic we saw work to great effect too.
