Stoke's issues with Vale continue as QPR make it three from three – Report on 15:18 - Sep 22 by Northolt_Rs | We have better players now than under Marti. That makes a huge difference - we’ve now got power and pace up front. What did Marti have? |
Strikers is the key here. We've not only got some now, they're good!

Stoke's issues with Vale continue as QPR make it three from three – Report on 11:37 - Sep 22 by Rsole | Kone may well end up with as many (or more) assists than goals if the others can put them away. The left footed, first time pass to Burrell was perfect and Vale probably should have scored early on too. Great combination - if we play direct like this AND can keep them fit and healthy, we’ll always be in with a good chance of points in most games. That actress will be round next week if this continues….a belated happy birthday. |
Cheers Clive - excellent report. Hopefully, Coventry was a pain that had to be endured early to stop the 'play out from the back' nonsense in its tracks. Not only have we won three in a row since, but we have clawed back 5 of the 6 goal deficit from that game too. Not getting too carried away, our injury record is still poor and to lose either of our front two, would be a blow. @Rsole, not to mention the perfectly weighted chest down to Madsen - a man of his technical ability should have at least hit the target.

Line of the season already. Sent that to my Stoke friend and he laughed his head off and said "spot on."

Myke - my impression is that we’ll see a lot more chances provided just like this, but only if we continue to play direct. May that long continue - ideally for the season. If it does, I hope we become a bit more clinical too because that becomes a habit very quickly in successful teams. Makes everyone’s time invested in the club so much more rewarding and fun.

Stoke's issues with Vale continue as QPR make it three from three – Report on 21:21 - Sep 22 with 969 views | daveB | On the ref, I thought he was a typical Premier League this is all beneth me type of ref, let everything go early on and thought he was in for an easy afternoon and then after that tackle which he laughably gave as a drop ball he lost control and had to go card crazy to try and calm things down again The injury time summed him up, multiple long stoppages first half for Stoke players playing dead and one of them almost losing a leg and he gave 3 minutes. We were all expecting 7 or 8 at the end of the first half but he must have had somewhere better to be.

Happy to be lucky with a ref once in a while, Dave.

Stoke's issues with Vale continue as QPR make it three from three – Report on 09:13 - Sep 23 with 561 views | mart_Goblin | Cheers Clive and a belated happy birthday . As others have said , Leeds 4-0 would be the last time I really enjoyed 90 minutes at LR as much as that. And I thought a draw was probably a fair result . Still, overjoyed at the win and the transformation by JS . You can’t go from losing 7-1 and looking like relegation certainties to a decent dangerous pacey side in a week or 2 without some very good coaching and leadership . He also looks like he has taken control on the fitness nonsense ( physical stamina rather than injuries ) to as well as the game plan . Early days and as ever in football and QPR especially, a kick in the balls is always just around the corner , but the optimism and quiet excitement is growing and for once I can’t wait for the next game . Re the injuries: do you think he got tired of them clutching their heads, meaning he had to stop the game, and just thought ' serve you lot right' at the end?

The pic of Mbengue looks awful but it was clear that they both struck the ball and momentum took Mbengue's leg onto Pearson. It'll probably be picked up retrospectively because no foul was given and expect a 3 game ban. |
You may end up being right but I'd be surprised. I still can't find a replay but I'm fairly sure it was right in front of the ref, so difficult for him to say he didn't see it. I'm fairly sure both players went in hard and made contact with the ball. If there is a problem, it's the follow through which the still photo seems to show. Then it's how the ref calls it. He seems to have thought it was ok.

I firmly believe that if the ref stops the game for a head injury then the physio must come on and check the player who should then go off for a minute or two to confirm they are ok. It shouldn't be for the ref to decide who's ok or not as happened when 2 Stoke players went down when we were recycling possession in the first half. It should also at least reduce the 'fake head injury' claims a bit.
Stoke's issues with Vale continue as QPR make it three from three – Report on 10:35 - Sep 23 with 359 views | joe90 | Really pleased with the result and performance. Someone mentioned that part of the Madsen rehabilitation is due to having players in front of him that will move/run, you could see that on Saturday. Also, seeing him get more involved in the defensive side had a massive impact, allowed us to win back possession on multiple occasions, broke up attacks etc. That's not to take away from the obvious benefits of having two competent strikers, Saito, Vale's left foot and Morrison who's literally putting himself on the line! It felt and looked like a much more coherent team. On Stephan, I really liked what he said about making mistakes and having the courage to take risks. He doesn't just talk about tactics but is clear about the mentality he wants his players to have and how to apply the tactics. Great report, thanks as ever.

That reminds me of that match we played at LR where the opponents had used all their subs. One of their players was struggling but couldn’t come off for obvious reasons. The bench were all miming to him to feign a head injury hence gaining an additional sub. He finally got the message and went in for a header and came out predictably clutching his head. As long as rules exist teams will find ways round them/how to exploit them.
Stoke's issues with Vale continue as QPR make it three from three – Report on 11:33 - Sep 23 with 239 views | cpgerber | As in rugby, a compulsory concussion check. Takes the guy off the pitch for about 5 minutes. We'll see how that goes then. Of course, not quite fair if the player really has a head injury, but how often does that actually happen vs fake injuries?

At the time of the tackle i thought "he's giving himself a bit of time to think" which is great reffing as it's not unusual to see a tackle like that, a player/crowd reaction and a card appearing like it's spring-loaded. Didn't realise he usually refs Premier fixtures though so maybe he was thinking "I'll just leave that one for VAR to fùck up" only to realise the voices in his head had gone silent. Great report.
