What’s clear already 20:15 - Sep 23 with 1586 views | saint22 | And so obvious in every game is Jack and THB slow us down incredibly We are looking to get forward every time w have it in this game and in our league games it’s side to side and backwards That down to those two and lack of leadership

Armstrong on the other hand has an appalling first touch and can’t pass

What’s clear already on 20:50 - Sep 23 with 1435 views | Southamptonfan | Much better performance. Lots of more fluent passing. Armstrong should have put us one up. Then Mccarthy, who was playing really well, makes the usual mistake at the back 😤

Made 2 good saves and then returns to type trying to play it out the back with a crazy pass. How many times have we seen that from McCarthy ?

What’s clear already on 21:01 - Sep 23 with 1340 views | Ron11 | Apart from that, I hope to not see Stephens in that back line ever again. Too much to hope for I suppose...Quarshie looked pretty solid and even Downes is showing an improvement.

Talk about an unforced error. He must be a complete MORON to do that. Absolutely criminal.

The overall (so far) performance should bode well for Saturday but let's see what WS gets up to with selection

Downs has been the complete donkey since he was brought on.
What’s clear already on 22:03 - Sep 23 with 1130 views | kernow | Their reserves narrowly beat our reserves . Once again gifting them the opposition a goal. Their second was a bit marginal. Francis Benali hinted about team selection going forward. Will Still frustrated by the idiocy on the pitch.
What’s clear already on 22:07 - Sep 23 with 1101 views | Sadoldgit | Quashie and Wood need to start on Saturday.
What’s clear already on 22:08 - Sep 23 with 1100 views | City_boy | A lot of positives to take from tonight. Hope Still keeps the same back line. We showed a bit more urgency going forward. I always feel Harwood-Bellis and Stephens are too slow to move the ball forward, allowing teams to get organised and then press hard. Flynn Downs and Quarshie were very impressive tonight. I just don't get what Will Still is seeing in D Downs performances ? He offered nothing, and on the few occasion he did get the ball he failed to control it or gave it away. Ekitiké red card was comedy gold. I thought Stephens hair pulling red card was bad, but Ekitiké took stupidity to a new level. [Post edited 23 Sep 22:09]

Flynn Dowes probably had his best performance in a Saints shirt in about a year, hopefully he'll be back to his best from now on

Jelert was a big improvement on Roerslev. Wood was very good. Quarshie was also solid. All 3 should start on Saturday. Roerslev, Stephens and Harwood-Bellis should all make way.

But they won’t. As in previous years a better performance in a game we shouldn’t win and ultimately don’t. Hull away was the biggest pile of shit I’ve seen in a long, long time. Footballing giants Middlesbrough at home on Saturday will show what this manager is made of. Over to you Will Still…

The defence looked a lot more solid and organised. Flyn Downs and Quarashie had strong performances and their best games this season. (longer for Downs) Quarshie's aerial presence made a difference. The defence moved the ball a lot quicker from final third, rather than the usual slow lethargic build up. There was a lot less passing backwards. e.g. in Hull game there was 95 back passes compared to 76 last night. Jelert was more effective than Roerslev and didn't Give the ball away as much as Roerslev has done recently. We had more shots and corners than Liverpool and hit woodwork. Despite result, it was a lot more encouraging. [Post edited 24 Sep 6:58]

Strange that no one has noticed how the backline was controlled and led by Edwards. He showed the leadership everyone has been calling for, but then no one seems to be saying that he had a good game. Yes, Wood and Quashie had excellent games. It was Edwards that organised them and told everyone where to be

Not for me. Edwards was at best ok. The other 2 CBs were much better. His worst moment was gifting them the winner. He left Chiesa totally alone. If he was organising the others then perhaps he should have been worrying more about his own position.
