Armstrong. 17:22 - Oct 4 with 6046 views | connell10 | Got caught offside once and kicked the ball straight out for a throw on to us, that was his only contribution to the game! To think I used to rate this kid , shows what I know

Armstrong. on 17:50 - Oct 4 by BrianMcCarthy | Hope he figures it all out. I've seen him play very well for Ireland U-21's against damn good teams, so he can do it. But something's just not right. |
Exactly this, Brian, but he has regressed. When the same problems keep turning up at different clubs with different coaches, different head coaches, you have to feel the problem is with him. And I was vocal in my disappointment at him leaving at the time. But in over a year, he is still making the same mistakes and is clearly not listening to what he is being told, and is being badly advised by those around him. Shame, because he had real potential as a mid-teenager.
Armstrong. on 21:17 - Oct 4 with 1915 views | gazza1 | Sadly, he is lacking the basics....it must have worked in academy football but when you are up against experienced professionals it is a different game......
Armstrong. on 21:21 - Oct 4 with 1880 views | Ned_Kennedys | Needs focused training to become a winger as he’s not and never will make it as a centre forward. Always thought he could be a poor man’s Adama Traore with his strength and speed: his stats are 33 goals in 425 appearances.

I'm sure he wasn't holding a gun to Armstrong's head, and can understand why the player sought a fresh start with a good contract at a decent and progressive Champ club. He just doesn't have the ability or nous to make it work for him, I'm afraid.

Armstrong. on 19:43 - Oct 4 by NorthLondonR | I honestly don't get this nouveau hatred of former players, it's just weird. |
No hatred here. In recent times I was disappointed the way Jack Robinson left and then Ryan Manning. But then later you find out that Manning's salary increase was huge at Swansea. Later he didn't sign a new contract at Swansea and moved on to Southampton. Well done to Ryan Manning and the way that he has managed his career. in the case of Sincs the offer from Bristol was longer with a nice salary increase so good luck to him, a players career is short and all that. Personally I was happy to see him leave our club, taking up a squad place when we had players such as Kolli and Lloyd coming through. There were far too many posts and pages dedicated to Armstrong and Dykes! As with Sincs I was pleased to see Lyndon leave and us get some cash to hopefully put to better use. Lovely fella Lyndon wish him well. Thankfully Kone and Burrell have now arrived. On the bench I am far happier seeing Frey and Kolli rather than Lyndon and Sincs.

He certainly wasn't forced to sign for City, but if you surround yourself with good people then 9 times out of 10 make the right decision. These are young lads who are easily influenced. Going to Bristol City was the wrong decision long term for his career.

Quite right Holloway. As said above, it's not our problem, and I can't say I'm bothered either. What I saw of him, he was an unproductive Forrest Gump on his best days...and that's all I have to say about that!

Armstrong. on 09:43 - Oct 5 with 1282 views | Ghost_on_the_Westway | Feel sorry for the kid, really, he really is disliked down there. He should have stayed here and gone out on loan, but he’s not a Champ striker in a million years, so we got a right touch when they paid us what they did for him. I had a nose on OTIB this morning - mostly to get their take on the game but I looked at the Armstrong thread and they said “he’s so bad that QPR fans were taking the P1ss” when he came on. Were we? Or was it a genuine Hello to him, as he was a popular figure, for all his faults.

Armstrong. on 19:20 - Oct 4 by Wilkinswatercarrier | Fck him, couldn't care less. He chased the money rather than staying and learning his art whilst being forgiven by a very forgiving fan base who wanted him to succeed. And we got £2m, mugged. 🤣 |
I mean with Armstrong there wasn’t much of an art to learn, he’s 22 now and still fails to grasp the most basic intricacies of football, such as the offside trap… After a couple of years of his Bristol contract, if he’s got someone handling his money smartly he’ll be setup for a very nice life after football so he should really look to drop down a couple of leagues where he can have success being an unrefined athlete, enjoy his football and see how far back up the the pyramid he can climb. It was painfully clear even before he left us that everybody knew how to deal with him - put a defender touch tight and one 5 yards off and he was completely nullified.
Armstrong. on 10:53 - Oct 5 with 1104 views | Paddyhoops | Had a great night out with our Bristol mate and he reminded me that we had warned him that no good would come from signing him . Still 2 million or so in the bank no complaints.

Armstrong. on 20:48 - Oct 4 by NorthLondonR | Fair point, what I actually meant was the longing for and adulation of (not you personally) our players not living up to their potential, or just simply moving on to pastures new. Substitute Sinclair for Duke-McKenna, for Dykes read Manning, for Dieng swap in Dickie... just not cricket i em aitch oh |
Yet, we all want Eberechi to do well at Arsenal.

Armstrong. on 10:59 - Oct 5 with 1083 views | 1JD | From the Bristol City message board. Fair to say they rate him highly… “Armstrong is not just ineffective, he actually has a detrimental effect on the rest of the team” “Armstrong is absolute horse shit and it’s boring listening to sycophants defending him and Mayulu.” “I wouldn’t quite lump him in the potential worst signings in the clubs history like Armstrong” “We could have saved ourselves £2m by signing up one of the British bobsleigh team rather than Armstrong. They'd have the same physical attributes and can't be much worse technically.” “Armstrong is shocking” “Armstrong could've played until the light failed, he was never going to score” “Mayulu and Armstrong are non league standard”

Armstrong. on 12:28 - Oct 5 with 844 views | soops | I always quite liked him at Rangers as you never knew what was going to happen (though as time went on it became more predictable!). He may be a good kid but there was always something that played on my mind as to how much of a team player he was - nothing huge, but he would milk the applause a little too long after he scored and the rest of the team had gone back to reset. And seemed to want his individual moment after games to celebrate with fans. Also, remember him pushing Jimmy D and trying to put him off when he was doing the Christmas bauble challenge. As I say, not big things, maybe just a lack of maturity, but did make me wonder. Glad we parted and got the money but good luck to him.

Why? What would have been the advantage of staying at a similarly ranked club in the same division on a less advantageous contract? What greater opportunities would he have had?

Armstrong. on 14:24 - Oct 5 with 581 views | bosh67 | 124 appearances 11 goals. He's only recently turned 22 but you do wonder if he can really make it at Championship level. He would have done better dropping down to League One and establishing himself. Or realising that he isn't a natural finisher or hold up player. BOS went abroad and became a wingback. You kind of feel that for Armstrong it could give him more discipline to read and learn the game in a defensive role and have the speed to play out as a wingback... And not be caught offside all the time!

A few around me were booing him as he warmed up,and when he passed the ball straight out of play a chorus of “Sinclair Armstrong” was sung. I always got excited when he came on for us because he was different and likely to make an impact. That doesn’t seem to happen when he comes on for Bristol.

Easy for you to say, and even easier with hindsight. I'd be more interested to know what the player himself thinks.
