Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) 01:39 - Oct 13 with 8574 viewsModeratorC

The Swans travel to St Mary’s Stadium for a fixture against Southampton this Saturday. (12.30pm) Recent visits to the Saints haven’t gone that well, but there is potentially a more level playing field this time around. The issues for the Swans will be the late returns of players like Cameron Burgess who won’t be back in the UK until Wednesday evening. Eom will be back by Wednesday afternoon latest but then for these two players there are time differences to overcome. Burgess from the USA and Eom from S.Korea. Plus assessments including sprint and fatigue tests which will determine their availability for this weekends game. (Sources) We should also be aware that the Swans are travelling to this game on Friday afternoon from their West Wales base. Put all that together with an early Saturday kick off and any form of result from this fixture will be welcome.

Stamenic is now a younger Fulton, it has taken ten games to remove the aggression and impact play from his game.

We have numbers in defence, but mostly watching! and too slow up front.

Key is having a poor game.

Tbh we are defending quite well considering all the ball they have had, we need to be clinical when we get into their half instead of fcuking aboit then losing the ball.

Btw this ref is a homer.

Never a foul, cabango got a bit of the ball.

The ref is a joke.

We are looking tired, substitutions need to be made earlier than the usual 60/70th minute.

There’s no effort, no obvious game plan and little to evidence the Swans actually know what they are doing. Appalling. It has to change second half.

If we get anything out of this game it will incredible, we should have been dead and buried. Stamenic picked up his obligatory yellow, he's going to walk one day if he's not careful.

How we are going in level at half time is a complete mystery.

Vig the star of the first half without doubt, the rest well it's looking like at times they don't know each other ,so many misplaced passes certainly in the first 20 minutes, slow and ponderous around their 18 yard box .The little aggression we've shown has been penalised by an official of a dubious persuasion.
Hopefully we've ridden out the storm but we can't allow them so much time and space because it's going to cost us big time.

well that first half has shown we are going to struggle to be in the top 6 , defending ok well under the cosh would take a point now with both hands

Can’t see Sheehan’s online approval rating as reported by someone being any better after that 45’!

As you say, no game plan. Hopeful(less) balls that are misplaced. No overlapping or looking for channels for the through ball. Individually we are second best, Ronald is not good enough. Key is being turned inside out. Inoussa shows promise but needs to take his man on just like their left wide man does (though of course he’s not up against Key😏).

Agree he is a red card waiting to happen. Could have been on a yellow before he was 4 or 5 fouls.

Tbf we had quite a few sortes into their half.

We tired dramatically in the last 10, thats because as ive mentioned previously we have several internationals on the pitch.

Therefore substitutions need to be made earlier than expected, get yalcouye on for stamenic early, then eom and melker on soon after.

Key at fault and Vigouroux was slow to react.

Vigaroux has been superb today and all season. At least 2 players in the starting linr up nowhere godd enough to get in last year's squad, but there again we've had our best transfer window ever - give me strength!!

Unfortunately- Key has a poor game most weeks and its obvious is being targeted by opposition. Ronald too doesn't do enough to warrant a start every week. Stemanic looks nothing like the player we saw in his first few appearances. This team currently is way off the pace in terms of a play off place. Sheehan needs to do something about continuing with his favorites, who are massively out of form.

Yes Vigouroux has been our best player in the first half, but in that particular move he was slow to react. Nobody is above criticism if it is due.

Cabango is playing closer to Key, that's going to leave space in the middle.

I’m extremely concerned that our XG is 0.11 to Southampton’s 2.21. We have a manager who is as negative and backward thinking as some of our previous with no real idea how to set up an attacking team. Here’s a hint for him - pick an aggressive attacking midfielder and drop Stamenic who after a brilliant couple of games in the beginning had become as ineffective as Fulton.
Why the hell did we buy Widdell????
