Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) 01:39 - Oct 13 with 9080 views | ModeratorC | The Swans travel to St Mary’s Stadium for a fixture against Southampton this Saturday. (12.30pm) Recent visits to the Saints haven’t gone that well, but there is potentially a more level playing field this time around. The issues for the Swans will be the late returns of players like Cameron Burgess who won’t be back in the UK until Wednesday evening. Eom will be back by Wednesday afternoon latest but then for these two players there are time differences to overcome. Burgess from the USA and Eom from S.Korea. Plus assessments including sprint and fatigue tests which will determine their availability for this weekends game. (Sources) We should also be aware that the Swans are travelling to this game on Friday afternoon from their West Wales base. Put all that together with an early Saturday kick off and any form of result from this fixture will be welcome. Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 16:15 - Oct 18 by Fireboy2 | Our way of playing from the back end of last season has changed, the common denominator is o'dea. |
This is my concern. We brought in two coaches last season to support Sheehan and it seemed to work well. This season we have O'Dea and I belive one of last seasons two are still here and one gone and we seem disjointed. We have to ask questions why we seem disjointed as a team. Are the coaching staff to concerned with data and not natural coaching instinct. Something is just not right.

Yes something isnt right. No apparrent game plan today Change is approach to what got Sheehan the job O Dea being blamed but Sheehan is the head coach supposedly so he should be having rhe final say in tactics and style If he wants to keep his job and its O Dea which is bringing us down then AS needs to exert his authority and return to what brought him success last season. Or is it the fact he had nothing to lose whilst in the caretaker role ?

This is where he either sets himself apart from the last three managers, or goes down the same path as them. They either didn’t change it at all when it became obvious it wasn’t working, or they did but reverted back to it after a few games. I think Sheehan is approaching that crossroad now.

It's strange but I expected nothing out of the game and should be ecstatic with the point, but I feel deflated again with the performance. Is it the coaching setup or are the players just not good enough, even Vipotnik has seemed to have lost his zip. Two home games in a week is the opportunity to turn this around I hope we can.

Are these players better ? It’s debatable.

Burgess V Darling....yes Gilbraith v Grimes yes v O Brien on par Stamenic v Fuktin yes but needs to be given more freedom Inoussa v Eom possibly on a par Widdell we cant tell as not seen enough of him We are certainly no worse off in terms of player quality over last season ( though we are missing the experience and class of the aged Allen and Naughton) so we ahould be seeing at least similar performances to thise we saw under Sheehan in those games innthe latrer part of last season.....but we arent.

This is exactly the question we should be asking. Data based recruitment is one thing, but is it giving us the blend we need to improve as a club, I really don't think so or is it all on the coaching staff being unable to find the correct blend. Maybe we just have too many similar players without dynamism. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Of course they are, he’s just not getting a tune out of them. Galbraith, Stamenic, Yalcouye, Inoussa would have all walked into that team. Probably Adam Idah as well, given we’ve had a different Vipotnik for most of this season. Cullen and Fulton were regular starters last season. They are bit part players now.

he is the head coach.... When these players were arrivimg in the summer folks were in raptures.... If his asssistant is the one who has brought about this more cautious approach to what we saw last season Sheehan needs to take charge and get us doung what he had us doing ro eaen him the full time gig

Goalkeeper Big Vigs - Chile international LB Tymon - Best in league? CB Burgess - PL experience CB Cabango - Very good RB Key - Concerning LW Inoussa - Excellent 6 Stamenic - Very good 8 Franco/Yalcouye - Very good 8 Galbraith - Best in league? RW Ronald - Concerning CF Vipotnik/Idah - Good Our right side looks the problem. Key a shadow of himself of years gone by and Ronald despite a hot start doesn’t look dangerous enough in possession to be a consistent threat. We are doing roughly about as well as our comparative squad value suggests we should be. Will need many more good windows to start seeing real strides towards top 6. An empire takes time.

It’s as if when he was a caretaker he coached bravely like he had nothing to lose and now he’s the Head coach/Manager he’s become too cautious and afraid to lose because now it would cost him his job ,he’s got himself in a catch 22 situation of his own making really but things really do need to change or it will be out of his hands

Carvahal did something similar when he put a run together, virtually dragged us to safety, then panicked and played ultra negatively and relegated us.

My view is we have had a very poor squad for a very long time. Good runs at the end of the season glossed over the problems. But we were 17th when Luke was fired, around the same spot when Duff was fired and were around then for much of Russell Martins time here, only saved by his late run of 10 games. We haven’t been a solid top half side since maybe Cooper was here, by that I mean one that doesn’t finish there just due to a run of form at the end. That’s what we now are in my opinion, and that’s the first improvement step towards a successful journey

Look at the Points per game we managed under Carvalhal before and after Leroy Fer got injured. CC takes the blame for playing negatively, but when robbed of his best midfielder, the one who drove a lot of our play forward and forced to rely on the shithouse Ki who had already downed tools instead he didn't have a lot of options.

Psychology plays a big part in sport, I’m beginning to think he’s lost confidence in himself. What we saw last season has no resemblance to this. Quick transformations are not happening. Today was the worst example this season of a team that looked to have little direction. I’m also noticing as each game passes that many of our players have no strength on the ball. That along with a lack of awareness when passing the ball is seeing a lot of turnovers against us. Today was shocking in that respect. I’m happy to make a decision after these two home games this week. And I think that certain directors will be thinking that way as well. Come the next international break there will be a few Championship jobs available. Hopefully not Norwich before we play them on Saturday.,

Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 17:55 - Oct 18 with 530 views | Dr_Winston | Before the game most of us would have been happy with a point so Sheehan will probably have some justification for the way he set things up, but performances have been manky and not as good as he managed last season. I keep saying it, but he has to change the midfield mix because it's simply not creating enough. The wingers need better supply, and so does Vip. He also needs to stop subbing Vipotnik on or about 60 minutes just for the hell of it too.

I think Inoussa blows hot and cold, Stamenic the jury is out for me, Idah I am yet to see anything to call good yet. Widell and Wales were they poor buys because we don't use them. Vigouroux, Tymon, Cabango, Key, Franco, Ronald and Vipotnik were not summer signings but here last season. If the last window was that good its all on Sheehan and his days are numbered unless he turns it around quickly. I still question some of the summer signings like Widell, Idah and Wales because they are not making an impact, granted Widell was signed earlier but arrived in the summer. To think the owners will wait six windows to see us challenging for the top six is optimistic in the extreme. If it took that long the coaching staff and Adam Worth would be long gone.

Inoussa is outstanding, I saw on one of the Swansea analytical pages today that he is one of the elite performers in the league. Widell was signed in January for Luke’s system and Wales is a youth prospect and is looking excellent in the U-23’s. You were asking if the players are good enough so I went through them. The two that aren’t are probably Key and Ronald. The last window was one of the best we have had in a decade, that’s accepted virtually everywhere, but that doesn’t mean we should be top 6. It only made us a solid mid table side which is what Sheehan is delivering. Before that we were a side flirting with relegation for large portions of the season, I don’t think that happens with this team. I don’t think the owners will be thinking 6 windows before we challenge, no. But also not 1.
