Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) 01:39 - Oct 13 with 9081 viewsModeratorC

The Swans travel to St Mary’s Stadium for a fixture against Southampton this Saturday. (12.30pm) Recent visits to the Saints haven’t gone that well, but there is potentially a more level playing field this time around. The issues for the Swans will be the late returns of players like Cameron Burgess who won’t be back in the UK until Wednesday evening. Eom will be back by Wednesday afternoon latest but then for these two players there are time differences to overcome. Burgess from the USA and Eom from S.Korea. Plus assessments including sprint and fatigue tests which will determine their availability for this weekends game. (Sources) We should also be aware that the Swans are travelling to this game on Friday afternoon from their West Wales base. Put all that together with an early Saturday kick off and any form of result from this fixture will be welcome.

My head went into my hands when he took vip off 🙄

It wasn’t Vipotniks type of game.

Yes he’s well in credit for how he’s played this season and should be our first choice
Yes he can be deadly when we are having decent possession in the final third.

When we’re not creating anything, he works hard pressing, but doesn’t drop deep or drift out wide and consequently just doesn’t get into the game.

I watched the Southampton stream and halfway through the first half they brought up a graphic showing he had had 3 touches. It didn’t get much better for him.

Not suggesting he shouldn’t start on Wednesday, but he didn’t offer much today.

Of course they are, he’s just not getting a tune out of them.

Galbraith, Stamenic, Yalcouye, Inoussa would have all walked into that team. Probably Adam Idah as well, given we’ve had a different Vipotnik for most of this season.

Cullen and Fulton were regular starters last season. They are bit part players now.

Yalcouye, and Inoussa you must absolutely be joking!
Idah looks utterly useless (£6 million- - mind you we did get £4million for that waste of space Grimes which the Snoop Dog gang on here thought was brilliant business)
Jack 247 probably my favourite poster on here but you seem to be losing the plot recently.
I am turning to be so right about my judgement on our "ludricous" transfer window.
Have a look at the league table, am I right or wrong?

Hers his views albeit to a SwansTV employee who asks his questions by stating the answer😂.

In answer to where we can improve next game (towards the end of the video) how about some proper coaching to get players running off the ball and into channels. That would be a good start.

Yalcouye doesn’t actually get in this team, but he’d have strolled in last season (at least for the periods Allen was injured or the 30 minutes every game he couldn’t play).

Last seasons positional equivalents are Fulton and Eom, who are both still here, but usually start on the bench now.

Inoussa is outstanding, I saw on one of the Swansea analytical pages today that he is one of the elite performers in the league. Widell was signed in January for Luke’s system and Wales is a youth prospect and is looking excellent in the U-23’s. You were asking if the players are good enough so I went through them. The two that aren’t are probably Key and Ronald.

The last window was one of the best we have had in a decade, that’s accepted virtually everywhere, but that doesn’t mean we should be top 6. It only made us a solid mid table side which is what Sheehan is delivering. Before that we were a side flirting with relegation for large portions of the season, I don’t think that happens with this team.

I don’t think the owners will be thinking 6 windows before we challenge, no. But also not 1.

Inoussa is useless, we'd be better off playing with ten than having him anywhere near the playing surface - offers nothing when it really matters (£6 million what a massive waste of money, but he does fall over quite well and does a good job at appearing he's been shot by a sniper and having a lie down for 5 minutes.
Widell looks completely lost 100%% of the time.
"The last window was one of the best we have had in a decade, that’s accepted virtually everywhere," NOT BY ME - and the proof is in the pudding.
We've brought in some excellent players and the owners have screwed it up by getting confused between the values of quality and quantity.

Are these players better ? It’s debatable.

Burgess played in the Premier Leagur last season and is an international ....where did Darling end up? PL no.....how many international call ups has he had?
Galbraith....again another starting international player.....and Stamenic agaun anotjer international

You would hope that by the end of the season we would have at least 70 points.
Anything less is surely a failure.

Southampton v Swansea City : Match day thread (UPDATED) on 17:55 - Oct 18 by KeithHaynes

Psychology plays a big part in sport, I’m beginning to think he’s lost confidence in himself. What we saw last season has no resemblance to this. Quick transformations are not happening. Today was the worst example this season of a team that looked to have little direction. I’m also noticing as each game passes that many of our players have no strength on the ball. That along with a lack of awareness when passing the ball is seeing a lot of turnovers against us. Today was shocking in that respect.

I’m happy to make a decision after these two home games this week.

And I think that certain directors will be thinking that way as well. Come the next international break there will be a few Championship jobs available. Hopefully not Norwich before we play them on Saturday.,

A couple of Our midfield and wide players do get pushed off the ball far too easily,we’ve had a few games this season crying out for us to be more physical but they seem reluctant to try
It also has me pulling my hair out watching our fullbacks constantly backing off attacking players instead of standing up to them and trying to get a tackle or even put a foot in ,before we can blink they are on the edge of our box ready to shoot, really bloody frustrating
I don’t know what has happened to Stamenic,he’s a shadow of the player from his first couple of games, sideways and back slow the play down don’t attack and then repeat, has he regressed or playing to Sheehan’s orders ,either way he’s not the player we had or need right now

The first sentence gives a lot away, possibly to much for your own good. It's a perfect example of someone who believes stats are everything, they are not. Inoussa is hot and cold often he beats a player and puts in a telling cross, often he's not strong enough and gets knocked of the ball far to easily. As I say hot and cold, it could go either way.

Obviously you will big up the last window but I still think the jury is out on quite a few of the purchaces. We may have brought in 10 players and a couple of them are very good ones, but over half are not having an impact at the club perhaps they will perhaps they won't time will tell. But one thing is a sure fire cert and that is if Sheehan can't get a tune out of them and is replaced and the next guy can't either, the recruitment team will be down the road.

Stats aren’t everything, where did I say that? I think you are just giving your very strange vendetta away. Anyone watching Inoussa and thinks he is poor is living on Mars. One of the best performers in our team and one of the most dangerous wingers in the league. I just call it as I see it. You appear to think that every signing is designed for starting 11 impact which is a childlike understanding really. Signings are made to impact different things. Best to leave it to the experts maybe?

Where did it say he was poor, I said he was hot and cold and for me the jury is out. It's not like you to try and twist things around to suit your agenda, always been the same. There's an awful lot of so called experts getting sacked, even been happening at Swansea City over recent months. As they say even the experts can be wrong, the difference is they pay for it with their job. Pride comes before a fall, we are all watching.

Burgess had about ten seasons in leagues one and two.
A season in the championship and only picked for half the games in Ipswich PL season.
Personally, I think Darling was better.

There was one moment I think it was in the first half when Stamenic was on the half turn and played a first time ball forward about 20 yards into the path of one of our attackers. Automatically Southampton were on the back foot and vulnerable .This is one aspect we have to improve . The link up play from back to front was slow and far too predictable . People saying Vipotnik has lost his zip ?? Ask yourself why the ball if it ever reaches him is taking an age to and by the time he does get it hes outnumbered about 3 to one.
We offered nothing in attack and were very lucky to keep a clean sheet. Innoussa at times was our most dangerous player but we need to transition like a basketball team on a fast break but atm we are clueless in how to do it. Thus is where coaching/training comes into it.

Yes, we are all watching, which is why every sensible person has clearly praised where we are going as a club. Sheehan commented this week about certain people online wanting the team to lose… I think he’s right.

Agree. There's a place for stats in the dugout and it's in the bin next to the seats.
