One of the few goals you will ever hear being applauded by the home fans.

Never knowingly right.

Absolutely fantastic goal. He was a great player. Where and why did we get rid of him. Cant remember now ?

Blackburn.

Fell out of favour under Gerry Francis. Not really his type of player.

I remember him getting one in the rain that great night under the lights against arsenal in the fa cup. We have had some quality footballers here over the years. Some dross of recent. We seem to get the maverick types that do well, shame about all the leaches

Also scored a brilliant goal away at Tannhauser Gate.

I remember giving Ceefax the thousand yard stare for about 2 hours in furious anger waiting for the confirmation of his exit to Blackburn.

Once it was finally confirmed i thought i'd go for a drive to calm down and I left the room with my head bowed miserably in the salted earth like General Alfred Jodl in abject surrender to Soviet Field Marshals in May 1945.
*
To top it all off , i then discovered my ford capri 3.0 ghia had been nicked, so i couldn't even go for a drive and listen to Luther vandross love songs on me argos tape deck.

I think after the Goddard/ Allen and Sinclair Transfers , i'd rate roy's departure as a proper cuban heel in the bollocks. Along with Sinton, Darren Peacocks and bardsleys just after that.

1990..

I was still 22 years old when that game was played... A 30 inch waist and hair like General Urko from planet of the apes. Just married to Wife number 1 And Gout was still 32 years away.

seems a thousand years ago..

Found myself staring at the still image at the end of that video for ages.

Les. Sints. Super Ray. Roy Wegerle. Out of shot, other geniuses, Bards and Clive.

All in our team. And what a team it was

I need a SAGA. What’s the SAGA? It’s ….. Queen’s Park Rangers.

Any excuse to post this up.....

I can still see him dancing around Mike Hooper and slotting it home and I love watching this grainy footage at 10:17 and seeing myself and my motley crew from the mini bus I ran that day up on the seats bottom right hand'ish of screen as it zooms out.
Wedge cuts de riguer

Probably my second favourite away day ever

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

The archetypal QPR player and you can absolutely see why the Scum offloaded him because a player like that was never going to prosper for late 80s Morlocks. Similarly gutted like Disco when he was sold; I suppose you could argue that Gerry was right as we finished fifth the following season...though maybe he could have been our x factor in doing even better.

That was brilliant mate.

By God, I wish now I could feel even 25% of that unutterable Love i had for the Club and it's players back then.

Your love for the club is still strong Discodroids, we just feel it differently as adults. Imagine how you would feel if Saito was transferred in January..

Which Clive Allen transfer hurt you the most? Was pleased to see Sinclair go in the end.

Also 48 years ago today Lynyrd Skynyrd's plane fell out of the sky.

Isn't that Paul Parker making a forward run out of defence? I don't remember him doing that too often. Macca would have been alongside him.

A brilliant team we had then, a few seasons on we finished 5th, top London club!

Saw Wegerle on the tv a month or two back. He's involved in the World Cup, so might be on the box over there occasionally. Don't look for the black hair though, he's well grey.

If I remember rightly, he did that more towards the, gulp, end.
If we played three at the back he'd come forward.

But he also played in midfield for us a few times, I think?

I'll be honest Brian I can't remember. I do remember it becoming a thing encouraging Paul to score his first goal for the club.

I think we may have been playing three at the back that day Brian.

McDonald, Parker and Maddix were playing so I'd guess PP was sweeper?

The lineup was:

1 Stejskal
2 Bardsley
3 Sansom
4 Parker
5 McDonald
6 Maddix
7 Wilkins
8 Barker
9 Ferdinand
10 Wegerle
11 Sinton
Sub Falco

Sansom was definitely over on the left as Leeds first (Deane?) came from an almighty howler between him and Stejskal.

Makes sense, Camberley.

Falco's time overlapping with Ferdinand - I'm surprised at that.

Bizarrely, given he had more than a smattering of vintage 1970s Stan in him, and was as skilful. You have to wonder if there was a bit of envy there. Gerry apparently preferred the terrible Rob Steiner later on and did fall out with one or two players if memory serves.

He was brilliant that night. Didn't score, but did set up both goals. He scored in the league win at ours, maybe that's the one you remember?
