Given this is a team being built, in process, it's quite exciting. Chair obviously will fit right in, and with more to come from the bench, yum!
| After Many A Summer Dies The Swan, Swansea Match Thread on 21:52 - Oct 22 with 1973 views | BrazilNutR | A really stressfull game to watch.. often felt like we were the team with 10 men, I wish we could have got a 2nd then we might have been able to put a few more past them and resolve our GD.. Chair looked very good when he came on. We actually played better when they had 11 men, which is odd. Madsen did well.. Thought Kone had a poor game, didn't stick today, and he was getting frustrated, service was poor at times. | | | |

It didn't happen. Shouldn't be moaning about a win but it was a stressful watch!

| After Many A Summer Dies The Swan, Swansea Match Thread on 21:48 - Oct 22 by Ned_Kennedys | Overall that was a very negative take on a win. And Field did more than well enough out of position at left back, including an excellent block of a decent shot in the second half. |
We played against 10 men for an hour. That second half wasn't pretty by any stretch of the imagination. I'm very pleased with the win, and think there were some great individual performances, but that doesn't gloss over what we saw.

Our full backs (and arguably RND) really lack any attacking guile. Ultimately, if we want to progress we need better ball playing full backs. I'm wondering whether there would be mileage in Adamson, Esquerdinha and/or Smyth at wing backs with a back three from Dunne, Morrison, Mbengue, Cook and JCS

After he came on we immediately created 2/3 good chances and actually managed to string some passes together. MOTM is probably a stretch given Madsen was pretty good all game, but he is technically and tactically our best player (imo). | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Then second half it looked like we were the ones with 10 men at times. We then took control when Chair came on and should have scored three. Looking at the Chair chance, a cheeky backheel of just stopping the ball for Kone to smash home would have been delightful. Thought they had scored on three occasions in the last few mins. Hard watch. But overall we looked far the better side. Imagine being a Swansea fan - they were pretty toothless. [Post edited 22 Oct 21:59]

We wer poor, not good enough for large parts of the game. I'm sure JS will say it.

Saito brilliant, our most dangerous attacking playing as he always is. Madsen MOTM though, I can't believe I am watching the same player as last season. Ousmane Dembele was Jules' first Balon d'or but it's about time they announced Madsen as the second! Finally, that pass from Kady was class, he'll get all the stick as usual because he isn't Paul Smyth, but that should have been the game put to bed and Chair will know it. Otherwise, better with Chair in the team, would prefer him playing up with a striker rather than Frey if Burrel/Kone aren't available

| After Many A Summer Dies The Swan, Swansea Match Thread on 22:01 - Oct 22 with 1557 views | baz_qpr | We won but I think there will be a number of things Stephan will not be happy with Hayden was excellent first half and faded badly 2nd half. Mbengue had a really poor game and against a better side would have been punished. Varane looks woefully out of form, as good as Paul Smyth was on Saturday he was as poor on the right. Kone struggled to make an impact, and should have been hooked earlier. And we've missed some absolute sitters there to put it to bed. Great to see Chair come on and do well, but an absolutely classic Chair moment when he selfishly went for the shot when a side pass to Kone was shoe in for 2nd goal. Burrell and Saito excellent and it was a lovely goal. Weather may be an excuse for some of the bad. Madsen MOTM for me again though really great on and off the ball | | | |

Did you not watch the last games we played for a long time against 10 men and didn’t win? Enjoy the 3 points: we have a habit of not getting them in these circumstances.
| After Many A Summer Dies The Swan, Swansea Match Thread on 22:03 - Oct 22 with 1461 views | gazza1 | Take our chances and we win very comfortably, we didn't and they just came at us because we were defending too deep. Overall, though, I thought that we generally controlled the game. Good half from Chair but missed a good chance, Madsen was overall very good, Hayden was better, fair play to Field but I must say he looks as though he has lost a yard of pace. Good away win against another very average side. Finally, I liked the Team that JS played tonight and he needs to stop all this rubbish about resting players after Internationals because it cost us points, if they are fit to play in the 2nd half then they are fit to start the game, 3 points against Millwall and we would be in 3rd place. Rangers should have really extended their lead, with fit-again Ilias Chair denied by Vigouroux's fine save, before Richard Dunne hit the post and Jonathan Varane fired wide on the rebound. | |

Yes but as good as he is he does need to improve his one on one with the keeper - even allowing for rustiness he should have buried that and as for Varanes shot…..

Hayden and Chair tonight really stepped up.

I think in his whole career he has been 1 in 10 from one on ones if there is one thing our performance coaches should be working on its that

Madsen was excellent. Really like his style of play and am pleased that he’s found the confidence to play. He’s becoming a key member of the team and I hope he continues to progress. Hayden was good and much improved from his Oxford performance (last time I saw him play) and clearly just needs game time. Great to see Chair back, exciting to actually have some decent options on the bench. We’re up to 8th with plenty to build on, but the bottom line is we won. [Post edited 22 Oct 22:49]

Kone’s ball retention was awful tonight. Chair made a huge difference when he came on. Still a class above any of the new boys. Control, movement, crisp, sharp passing. Chair playing as the 10 in front of Madsen will make us tick far better. Question is, where does Burrell play, especially when Poku is fit.

I will take that result all day long. Our tendency to go on long losing (and occasionally winning) streaks makes me nervous after every defeat and I hate international breaks precisely because they break up our rhythm when we're playing well, so after Millwall I'm just bloody glad to get an away win. Throw in the continued goal-scoring ability of our 1st choice strikers, Madsen looking like an all-round championship midfield lynchpin, and Chair's ability to make the team tick and there's bags of potential for us. Clean sheet for Nardi and a slightly makeshift defence also positives for me. Really want to see much better from Varane, Dembele, maybe Smyth (cutting him a bit of slack in recognition of past service) but that's partly because there's evidence they've got it in them. A fit Poku would be lovely too. Not a match to tell the grandkids about but lots of signs we're on the right track IMO. Starting to get excited about this team, and I bloody wasn't in August.
