Cricket 2025 County/International Thread 13:39 - Apr 9 with 47070 views | Superhoops2808 | With the football season coming to a close in a months time, some here will turn their attention to the smell of freshly mown grass and long days sat in the hot sunny weather watching the great game of cricket. As a member of Kent Cricket Club, I got to enjoy my first match of the season against Somerset at Canterbury over the last few days. Unfortunately, as is always the way starting the season this early, the first day was lost to rain. In fact nearly all the games were affected by rain, some without a ball even being bowled. But I did manage to get to see 2 centurions at Canterbury yesterday and a very enjoyable day of cricket (even if I did get sun burned head - Yes I know should have taken a cap). Did anyone else get to see cricket over the last few days? I know we have several Middlesex supporters who no doubt enjoyed the 'runfest' at Lords (over 1300 runs I believe) [Post edited 4 Apr 13:14]

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 14:26 - Apr 14 by Loyalitat | Good start for Kent, now keep it going. From the outside looking in, it appears that you've got a stronger squad this season than you had last year. You've still got the two J Denlys to consider for selection, Quinn, Parkinson??. Just read that Dudgeon is unfortunately out for the season after sustaining a knee injury when training. That's a shame after he bowled so well in Kent's first victory against Northamptonshire. |
So there is going to be a common theme here when I reply that ties in with QPR too INJURIES!!!! Dudgeon is a really sad loss as looked tasty for the first match. I hope we get him back next season. He was very much like Matt Henry and we know how well that went Quinn - Out with another injury (Hamstring) Denly (Snr) - Fractured Arm Mikey Cohen (Coming back after a season long injury - Yet to bowl a ball for Kent in 18 months) George Garrett (Quad Injury) - And I could continue sadly However, on the positive side we have one of the Flintoff's signed for us (Corey) - And Chris Benjamin yet to make his senior debut but looks good as WKT keeper and batsmen Denly (Jnr) is a mystery as got a century in a warm up but seems to be unavailable You cannot use players that are on Rookie contracts or no professional contracts so its possible he is on one of those Wrong time of year for Parkinson at the moment but he will be a valuable player I am sure especially in the white ball. With Hollioake at the helm as I said the jury is still out for me, but happy if we continue taking 20 wickets which was my chief concern at the start of the season. One to watch this season for us is Tawanda Muyeye - I fully expect him to be on the cusp of an England call up - The most talented player I have seen in many a year and only 24 too. Also, Ben Compton - Very glad he didn't follow Cox over to you but I suspect that will happen if we don't have a good season this year and he is given white ball opportunities too Please, Please, Please give Surrey a run for their money this season. My Surrey supporting mate just don't stop going on about it!!

I am going to Lords for day one of the return fixture - 2nd May. I understand you can sit where you want so where do you regulars at Lords suggest for a good view And is there much food and drink open on the day? Plus if anyone wants to meet there and grab a beer drop me a PM

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 14:06 - Apr 14 by TheChef | Boo hiss. Fair play though making the total for the loss of only two wickets. Middlesex bowling still fairly pop gun though (although the spinner Zafar looks like a useful signing). We were supposed to be getting Dane Paterson over from South Africa but he still hasn't turned up yet! |
Middlesex only taken 1 batting point from first 2 games. Williamson cant arrive soon enough. Also, the bowling doesn't look strong enough to take 20 wickets. Toby is getting on. They let Bamber and Anderson go. Luke Hollman hasn't played yet.

Fair question. As an Essex supporter, but first and foremost a cricket fan, it wasn't a clean catch, pure and simple. Jamie Porter has gone down in my estimations for cheating. It wasn't just his lack of honesty for the non-catch, but along with others, squaring up to the Worcestershire batsman who was perfectly within his rights to call into question the legtimacy of the "catch". All very unedifying and marred what was an excellent contest up until then. It is to be hoped that Jamie and Essex show good grace when future questionable decisions go against them, which will happen during a long season. Sadly, I have my doubts. [Post edited 23 Apr 11:27]

Not seen it but if it’s that obvious then it’s a poor show. I mean, we’re not Australians.

Well Paterson finally turned up, which helps. Beat Glamorgan despite all the rain yesterday. Onwards and upwards.

Me neither, and I'm not expecting any massive improvements even with Williamson playing a few games. Would be more concerned if we weren't beating Glamorgan.

Hunter, I am unable to find footage but this may help https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10161436768937634&set=gm.13875793690981 If not, google as there may be some more footage somewhere. Essex stream so not sure they showed the replay sadly which makes it even more poorer How the umpire gave it when he couldnt even see it is beyond me

That is a refreshing answer thank you And for me, someone who I have always enjoyed watching, Jordan Cox, did himself no favours on social media after either. Not the first time as he has history of that whilst at Kent

Right arm around the wicket? Back in the day you would never get that from an umpire. Times have changed today, and I agree that it was close but there will always be doubt with a right arm bowler around the wicket. If it hits in line in could easily be sliding down, if it is definitely hitting, it must have hit outside the line unless back foot. Hollman got away with a very good shout as well. But then Kent and DBD escaped several very close lbw calls yesterday. Middx also had a set batsman injured in that chase that impacted things. The luck evened itself out over the game and Middx won.

No, a tie is when scores are level, its different to a draw. I went to Lords Saturday and it was glorious weather. Sunday, I was wearing gloves and a scarf. Couldn't get back Monday but watched the last hour on YouTube, what an advert for red ball cricket. I hope they don't reduce games from 14 to 10/12. After play, as usual, was having a beer in the Lords tavern and all the players and coaches come in. what other sport would this happen?! [Post edited 6 May 12:13]

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 00:07 - May 8 with 341 views | NewBee | With all this new money/competitions/franchises etc coming into Cricket, we could see some new stadia being developed by some of the Counties: From The Times (03 May 2025): "Surrey are set to confirm that they are developing an additional ground to their main home, the Oval, at a site in New Malden, while Middlesex are exploring developing a base away from Lord’s at Uxbridge as the counties who play at venues that host Hundred franchises scramble for new facilities. Both clubs have long had ambitions to establish their own grounds away from the Oval and Lord’s — Middlesex especially, as they are merely tenants of MCC at Lord’s and restricted in how they operate there. However, the professionalisation of the women’s game and the need for these two venues — alongside six others around the country — to act as home to the Hundred throughout August has created unprecedented demand for high-quality playing and training areas." https://www.thetimes.com/sport/cricket/article/surrey-middlesex-new-grounds-oval While Gloucestershire CCC could also be on the move - apparently their existing stadium has high development value: "Gloucestershire County Cricket Club has today announced the signing of a non-binding Heads of Terms agreement which will enable it to explore an area of land for potential development of a new home for the Club. The site in question – Swanmoor Stoke – is situated near landmarks such as The Wave, Bristol Golf Club and Wild Place Project in South Gloucestershire and is less than a mile from both Junction 17 of the M5 and the proposed new junction off the M49. It is also less than a mile from Pilning railway station (which would require updating). The wider area has undergone material residential development of late and more is planned." https://www.gloscricket.co.uk/news/gccc-signs-non-binding-heads-of-terms-to-expl Any others?
