Cricket 2025 County/International Thread 13:39 - Apr 9 with 80566 views | Superhoops2808 | With the football season coming to a close in a months time, some here will turn their attention to the smell of freshly mown grass and long days sat in the hot sunny weather watching the great game of cricket. As a member of Kent Cricket Club, I got to enjoy my first match of the season against Somerset at Canterbury over the last few days. Unfortunately, as is always the way starting the season this early, the first day was lost to rain. In fact nearly all the games were affected by rain, some without a ball even being bowled. But I did manage to get to see 2 centurions at Canterbury yesterday and a very enjoyable day of cricket (even if I did get sun burned head - Yes I know should have taken a cap). Did anyone else get to see cricket over the last few days? I know we have several Middlesex supporters who no doubt enjoyed the 'runfest' at Lords (over 1300 runs I believe) [Post edited 4 Apr 13:14]

I wouldnt bet seeing much on Friday

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 11:59 - Jun 4 by Loyalitat | Don't worry. It may not be at Lords, but Middlesex will beat Essex on Sunday. The Essex T20 team for this season is worse than that of Middlesex. I said before the start of the championship, that I was fearful of our chances in maintaining our division one status. Well Essex's T20 team has performed even more poorly and has been thumped in both of its T20 games. |
I think you are missing Jordy I know we did last year, he is one of the best T20 players about

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 12:53 - Jun 4 by TheChef | I'm sorry but I struggle to believe anyone has a worse T20 team than Middlesex! Planning to go to Lord's tomorrow for the Kent game, weather forecast looks ropey though, |
I went to the game too straight from work so got there a bit late - Personally think the weather did us a favour as we were 20 runs short In terms of Kent this year in the T20, on paper we have a very strong side, but losing Crawley now will hurt us a lot. He has been so good this year in the T20, and if he carries the confidence into the series against India then I am willing he'll be the series top scorer

Very true, he's a big miss but there appears to be an air of malaise around the club this season. Rossington's selection above someone like Das is mystifying. I'd pick Westley in the team ahead of some others who seemingly can't be dropped. In contrast, the balance of Kent's T20 side looks spot on. Granted, Crawley will be a big loss but you are well placed in the league after four games. Hope you beat Surrey tomorrow. Who's likely to take Crawley's place in the team?

I have a horrible feeling that we are going to be on the receiving end of yet another massive larruping in the Ashes this coming winter. I hope I'm wrong but, as you say, those bowlers are sensational and their unerring accuracy and discipline is way better than any of ours. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It's even tougher these days with the crazy schedules, the formats and not having enough time to prepare properly for away Test series. Much as I enjoyed our batsmen slogging away in the T20 the other night, other than Root I can't see any of them being able to bat time. With Bazball they'll just try and fight fire with fire and inevitably will largely come unstuck. On the plus side I think at least our bowling attack this time round will have a bit more zip to it, but that won't be enough.

Think you’re right. I don’t think there’s much between the batters but their bowling is superb. Even ignoring Lyon, their 3 quicks are miles ahead of ours. We need the Jof back to stand a chance.

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 17:27 - Jun 12 with 1401 views | Hoopstar | It's a gripping watch but I get more and more worried about the future of test cricket. It remains the form of the game I am most interested in but it is so hard to compete with the cheaper (imo) thrills of t20 which has managed to make 6 hitting dull to me. Test cricket is just not a sport players can get themselves ready for in a couple of weeks - particularly on the batting side. Saw the BBC quote a Windies central contract for a top player was about £200k a year but they're earning £1m plus for having a bit of a swing in the IPL at a minimum.

We can bat as well as the South Africans but our bowlers are no way getting the Aussies out cheaply. Our bowling is rubbish

Superb game at Taunton - 452 runs - Daniel Bell-Drummond gets the first 100 of the T20 this season by anyone Cannot deny I was biting nails in the last few overs And as for Banton, I just hate it when we play him. He is a class player

That was a tremendous game this afternoon. I don't have any stats to back what I'm about to say, but DBD and Muyeye must have the best average for an opening T20 partnership. I would say that they are the best to date this campaign and I seem to recall that they both scored well as a partnership in 2023. With Gloucestershire and Essex as your next two games, you have to fancy your chances of winning both of those and cementing your place in the top 4 at the end of the first phase of T20 games. Thought Evison bowled very well along with Klaassen. Was Joe Denley injured? You've got a decent T20 squad there. [Post edited 15 Jun 21:29]

Their team is ageing and I think if it was an Ashes in England I'd strongly fancy us (tbf we should have won the last series), but they probably still have a good home series left in them before they finish up. We've only won once here since I moved down under and that was when we absolutely belted them in 2010/11. Still the last away series win by either side. I do feel like morale can unravel quite quickly when England tour here. Hostile and childish media (I know ours give them stick too, but we just don't care about cricket the way they do), long hot days in conditions that favour the home team and being away from home over Christmas probably doesn't help either. Can we take 20 wickets though? Not sure we have a strong enough bowling unit.

Little chance of getting them out sadly. Wood and Archer will no doubt not be fully fit, leaving Atkinson who will be struggling to be effective out there I suspect and Carse perhaps the only promising option left. Woakes will no doubt be given yet another go to prove he can't bowl out there. Leaves Bashir who whilst you can't argue with his stats at such a young age, but you would have to fear for him. It is annoying as the Oz batting is weaker than it has been for ages; although the bowling still formidable of course. At some point age will catch up with them and an injury to one or two of their big four would change things a lot as their only proven back up is Boland and although he is better than anything we've got he's getting on as well. Our best chance will be in four years time - no Lyon, Starc, Hazlewood and possibly Cummins and their youngsters aren't looking amazing. Then again, we will have no Stokes and possibly Root which doesn't bear thinking about.

Yeah not great that we might have Woakes as part of bowling attack in Australia. I like Woakes but he’s very poor away from English conditions. Bashir looks like an improvement for spinning option. Definitely need the Jof.
