Cricket 2025 County/International Thread 13:39 - Apr 9 with 59404 views | Superhoops2808 | With the football season coming to a close in a months time, some here will turn their attention to the smell of freshly mown grass and long days sat in the hot sunny weather watching the great game of cricket. As a member of Kent Cricket Club, I got to enjoy my first match of the season against Somerset at Canterbury over the last few days. Unfortunately, as is always the way starting the season this early, the first day was lost to rain. In fact nearly all the games were affected by rain, some without a ball even being bowled. But I did manage to get to see 2 centurions at Canterbury yesterday and a very enjoyable day of cricket (even if I did get sun burned head - Yes I know should have taken a cap). Did anyone else get to see cricket over the last few days? I know we have several Middlesex supporters who no doubt enjoyed the 'runfest' at Lords (over 1300 runs I believe) [Post edited 4 Apr 13:14]

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 18:20 - Jun 24 by CamberleyR | "the naysayers and old washed up ex captains and experts saying how astonished they were at winning the toss and bowling. Where are they now?" The awful Indian fielding has had a fair bit to do with it if England win. |
That is one heck of a negative take on what should be a brilliant win. Not our fault if they drop a catch or two - that is all part of the game? Cheer up - it's a fantastic win and run chase and yet this thread is all about draws and poor shots and now Indian drops! Classic England. Someone will be on claiming Foakes should be in the team next. [Post edited 24 Jun 18:23]

And the collapses in both innings by the Indian batsmen.Surely they can’t keep doing that for the whole series.

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 20:41 - Jun 24 with 665 views | BlackCrowe | Whichever team had won today, that is why Test Cricket is the beautiful format and must be protected at all costs. 7 centuries, 35 wickets, pure ebb and flow throughout. Glorious stuff. And it seems England have developed a less wreckless version of Bazball. If only we could get a firing Wood and Archer fit, we could give the Aussies a proper go but without i think we may fall short on their home turf. Batting line up looks the most solid for about 15 years or so.

Sure Mr Stokes speaks equally highly of your good self, Ted, also. Harsh words towards a guy that has changed the approach in test cricket. To win a game by 5 wickets, when at one stage on day 2, India were 430 for 3, is insane. Brilliant.

But you were mad at Stokes for getting out to a poor shot in a tight run chase - what on earth was Brook doing charging down wafting at a borderline leg side wide like that? Brainless, and lucky for him that Root and Smith had more nous

Agree with you. What a win. You can't say India got this wrong or that wrong (noting that we dropped catches too. It's part of the game) - it's a great win. End of. That, right there yesterday, is why I've decided to have one more full Ashes tour down under this Winter. The Aussies have never had the likes of this team turn up on their shores for an Ashes series before. It'll be us swaggering around and giving it large, rather than them. Sure, there will undoubtedly be batting collapses. However, we've got a real chance this time (but we probably do need one of a fit and firing Wood, Archer or Stone in every Test)

We need Wood and Atkinson back in the side (but who for) And if we beat India in this series, as you say there will be a swagger that the Aussies wont be used to. In his post match interview Stokes said all he wants regardless of the situation is for his team to have a can do attitude and in this match they did that in spades.

Yes I was mad at Stokes for giving up his wicket unnecessarily, maybe It was a 'heat of the moment' thing, maybe I was expecting too much from Stokes hence my *He's a pratt* comment after he got himself out. I'd like to take back calling Stokes a pratt but I can't, It was wrong of me for saying It. Brook 99 in his first Innings and frustratingly throwing away his wicket In his second innings hopefully he'll learn from It. Five days of fantastic cricket going down to the wire virtually, they'll have to go some to equal that again.

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 11:16 - Jun 25 with 261 views | BlackCrowe | Brook is the most exciting batsmen i've seen hit the first team since Root first came on the scene. He's so young and everyone in whatever sport is allowed a brain fade/error, it's what makes sport what it is. He has the ability and brain to score big and probably captain England Test team for many years to come.

Agreed, but he was fortunate to get to 99 in the first innings (caught of the no-ball and dropped twice IIRC) and his shot to get out in the second was a bit braindead. No issue with him playing some of those big shots, but read the room - just lost a wicket, get set, shore things up, then play your game. Big fan though and his captaincy of the white ball team has got off to a great start. As an aside, Tongue didn't look like doing much against the top order but his snaffling of the tail was invaluable in this win. Not to be overlooked, given how frequently we've come unstuck there in the past and allowed opposition bowlers to add on another 50+ runs.

Yes, I wouldn't worry about Brook. Immense talent and will be around for years. Agree on Tongue - very interesting that Stokes was bigging him up throughout as someone to remove the tail. Would be very handy.

Brook clearly an amazing talent but I really don't think he's the sharpest tool in the box. I just knew he'd be out early yesterday (maybe not that early!) Anyway great win and kudos to the England batsmen, arguably would have been a lot tighter if India could catch. Looking forward to the Edgbaston Test, I'll be there on the Saturday in the Hollies stand along with the other finest analytical minds in cricket

Just picked up tickets to the final day of the series at the Oval. Doubt it lasts that long, but it was only £25 if it does wrap up swiftly so not the end of the world. Cheaper than 90 minutes at Loftus Road
