Cricket 2025 County/International Thread 13:39 - Apr 9 with 60088 views | Superhoops2808 | With the football season coming to a close in a months time, some here will turn their attention to the smell of freshly mown grass and long days sat in the hot sunny weather watching the great game of cricket. As a member of Kent Cricket Club, I got to enjoy my first match of the season against Somerset at Canterbury over the last few days. Unfortunately, as is always the way starting the season this early, the first day was lost to rain. In fact nearly all the games were affected by rain, some without a ball even being bowled. But I did manage to get to see 2 centurions at Canterbury yesterday and a very enjoyable day of cricket (even if I did get sun burned head - Yes I know should have taken a cap). Did anyone else get to see cricket over the last few days? I know we have several Middlesex supporters who no doubt enjoyed the 'runfest' at Lords (over 1300 runs I believe) [Post edited 4 Apr 13:14]

I live about 30 mins from Headingley so went to Day 3 and then picked up cheap tickets for Day 5. Two great days of test match cricket spent with my son and daughter.

Absolute hiding to nothing that game. It's my son's 1st birthday so will be avoiding it like the plague, maybe with TMS on at a picnic.

Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 14:47 - Jun 25 by TheChef | Brook clearly an amazing talent but I really don't think he's the sharpest tool in the box. I just knew he'd be out early yesterday (maybe not that early!) Anyway great win and kudos to the England batsmen, arguably would have been a lot tighter if India could catch. Looking forward to the Edgbaston Test, I'll be there on the Saturday in the Hollies stand along with the other finest analytical minds in cricket |
Brook will be a mainstay for years to come. From watching Surrey also, am certain also Jamie Smith from all I have seen of him, will be there for the long run. Great player who seems to have no nerves. Very impressive yesterday. I hope Pope does improve likewise. He has the talent but I think bad runs of form can affect his confidence so his numbers are currently nowhere near where they should be. Crawley for me was in the last chance saloon but the stand with Duckett saved him. Duckett has been superb and seems a mainstay also. Root and Stokes will be around two, three or four more years. I hope Stokes remains consistent as his injuries perhaps could curtail his career a little early. Jacob Bethell standing in the wings too. As for the bowling Atkinson, Wood, Carse and Archer all should get opportunities when fit. Woakes can still do a job for me. Tongue and Potts there also. Obviously Broad and Anderson both leave a massive hole in the attack and replacing two bowling gods of the game, was always going to be problematic. Regards the spinners Bashir seems to be the chosen one. Think Adil Rashid is just to be considered in limited overs and Jack Leach is unlikely to feature much more going forwards. Can see us continue being competitive at home but being rather less so away and especially at the likes of India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Was pleased though with this test that the kamikaze nature of Baz Ball was very much more refined and adaptable. [Post edited 25 Jun 17:39]

Appreciate I am a Kent supporter but that is utter tosh re Crawley He will be in the ashes side regardless of this series, he has some excellent experience in Australia and would go there every winter till he was called up for internationals Woakes would be cannon fodder in Australia - Great in English conditions not so in Aus We do agree on Jamie Smith. I was championing him before he got selected, been better than Foakes for ages and I think he will be a future England captain

Am biased too as a Kent man but Zak gets so much over the top grief considering he is now part of an opening partnership that has clocked up over 2,000 runs and is statistically one of the best. Sure he has too many barren periods and brain fades, but the Aussies respect him a lot more than some of the other poke-around-for-two-an-over county stalwarts. He's made huge double hundreds, winning contributions and racked up a lot of tests. Yet still I read on social media that James Vince (QPR fan aside) would be better. Joke. Woakes must not go to Australia, waste of a place. Been tried and it does not work!
Cricket 2025 County/International Thread on 20:08 - Jun 25 with 233 views | MedwayR | Crawley and Duckett work well as a pair, and even if England dropped Crawley there's no one pushing to take his place. I still think Crawley is better at 3 but we're so short of openers that he's had to adapt his game to become an opener. The criticism he gets is very OTT.

He has indeed played exceptionally well coming in at 3 for the T20 matches he played But yes there is a superb understanding between Duckett and Crawley and if one is going for it, then the other will tend to be more sensible - As was shown Tuesday | | | | Login to get fewer ads
