The season 25-26 squad thread 10:22 - Apr 13 with 9237 viewsngbqpr

As the days grow longer, the number of games left shorter, and lower midtable has thrillingly been secured for another season, a fan's thoughts turn to August...pristine turf, sun-drenched safe standing areas, a revamped squad, and the demon hope.

The mood music is currently mixed regarding who will be leading our merry band of footballing troubadours come the Big Kick Off next season. Hoos and the owners are definitely giving off "checked out / leave it to the manchild" vibes, so it's all down to whether Marti & Christian can reach a better the devil you know arrangement, I guess.

“We identified the fact that we needed to play some form of 4-3-3, possession-based, mid-block/high press football. We did that by looking at the last 10 years of the Championship and what won you points and what allowed you sustainability to bring in 16 to 24-year-old players who could play well in the system, develop and be the best players they could possibly be..." was the rallying cry, and Nourry ain't one for turning.

So with that (ahem) "game model" in mind, what would you like to see us do / what in reality do you think we will do?

As far as we're allowed to know, the following are contracted for next season (I have included loaned out players who have played significant minutes at a decent level; and dev squad players who've had first team minutes this season; oh, and Harvey Vale):

GKs
Nardi / Walsh / Cooper

CBs
JCS / Morrison

FBs
Larkeche

Midfield*
Chair / Dembele / Field / Madsen / Varane / Vale / Smyth / Morgan / Bennie
(* obvs in a 433 some of these play as wide forwards, but I reckoned it was easier to bunch them in here, and keep 'strikers' to those playing centrally up top and charged with leading our goals for column).

Strikers
Celar / Kolli / Lloyd / Kelman

What do we need, and by what combination of contract renewals / new signings / DS players stepping up / loaned out players returning will we get there?

And whither Richards and Hevertton come August...

Poll: Best hug a stranger / fall down five rows / 'limbs' late goals this season

I'm having a quiet chuckle that a few on here are thinking Sheff U will be in the PL next season. I think they won't even win their playoff semi...

More chance of them signing Dunne in the summer if they are NOT promoted I think.

Big Ange will be sacked soon enough and I imagine whoever takes over at Spurs in the summer will want a proper look at him. Imagine its of those ones ones where if he goes and spends a season somewhere, next step will be the Eredivise or Bundesliga. But I think he'll be in their squad. Got his first South Korea cap a few weeks ago and they are not short. Wouldn't surprise me if thats a market we are shopping in this summer though, we were heavily linked with a Korean midfielder last summer before Varane joined

"Got his first South Korea cap a few weeks ago and they are not short."

Perhaps we could sign some of his taller buddies coz we definitely are short!

Assuming Saito's deal is made permanent, we'll have Smyth Chair, Dembele and Koki. How many of those can play at the same time.? Who would get left out? Who would be sold?

Having those 4 competing for the 3 ACM places is no problem and pretty much any combination should be OK (though I can remember quite a few away games this season when our 3 ACM's were chocolate teapot).

Potentially, you can add Madsen to that list also.

What would be great would be if Morgan could develop into our box to box ball playing CM, like Rowly in his prime.

Oh, and what about Vale ? I believe he is another midfield ball player. Simon Barker. Another one of him would be good as well.

It'll be interesting to see where Vale ends up playing for us. He's played mainly as an attacking CM and LM but has filled in at every other position except CB and RB.
